memorial walk at this stage is ridiculous.
I agree it does sound quite premature since the police are still carrying out searches, but perhaps they wanted something everyone could join in with.
Not everyone feels comfortable to join in with a religious memory service.
They walked together to find Lindsay, now they wanted to walk to remember her.
The whole community came together to search for Lindsay.
Perhaps as a community they wanted to share their shock and grief .

Agree with all that...it was really incredible the number of people who helped with the search. Now they need to be together at this time to get support from each other.

Nicely put @Skigh.

The community have been great and I’d imagine it has had a profound impact on them. With Lindsay working at a primary school too, parents must be trying to find a way to help their children process and cope.

They also have a further 36 hours if it’s granted. So Sunday would be charge or release if he’s held for the maximum time.

Initial detention period is up to 24 hours. A further 12 hours can be authorised by LE of Superintendent rank. After this up to a further 60 hours can be granted by a Magistrate, normally in more than one application for extension.

A maximum of 96 hours (4 days) from arrival in custody.

Different time limits apply in terrorism cases.

"Members of Ms Birbeck's family and friends, as well as the wider Accrington community, took to Peel Park this evening (August 29) near The Coppice in the town centre before proceeding to a memorial area and laying flowers.

The evening began with the organisers of the event, Katie Blezerd, Debbie Kimberley and Tracy White, speaking to the packed-out park.

Ms Kimberley thanked the crowd and the community for all their help in trying to find Ms Birbeck when she went missing.

She reminded everyone that they should feel 'proud' of how they had pulled together."

Hundreds gather for Lindsay Birbeck memorial in Accrington

because its a crime scene, and because the family and friends have had no time to catch their breath let alone process the fact she has gone

A lot of the people who turned up knew Lindsay, or have helped in the search for her.

Accrington is a small town and it’s really affected our community. People want to be together and people want to have an outlet for their sadness. Two weeks she had been missing and we finally have an answer.

IMO a memorial ‘walk’ was perhaps premature. But you’re being wholly insensitive.

hmmm wondering if there is another body or something? That's a big presence IMO but maybe that's the UK way?[/QUOTE

It’s not a random attack MOO. Vic was a Primary School teaching assistant, I think the boy Is linked to the offender through work, odd jobs etc MOO
