UK- London Nine injured in suspected acid attack, children among injured 01/31/24

I was not aware of such an incident in Afghanistan.
There were reports (possibly not confirmed) that he was sending all his money home to Afghanistan to his family there, but that after a huge remittance his family was robbed and his sister was shot dead. Hence the potential “revenge attack” theory. Although TBH I’m not sure this was confirmed, the source for the story is one of his friends who said it happened.

It’s the Daily Mail, so exactly a bastion of accuracy and exemplary reporting. But it could be something (the friend’s recounting of the tale was in The Times as well but won’t link as it’s paywalled).

Right?! Every time I see an update, I feel like it's one step forward and three steps back...!

We probably won't find out until the end, and maybe not at all, but I would guess that it's not actually convoluted at all.

Much the most likely explanation is that a grotty sex pest has been jilted by his long-distance gf, has driven down and committed a poorly-planned attack and then run off in a panic with no real plan. Then (a) has killed himself, (b) has found somewhere to hide undisturbed or (c) is being sheltered by someone local.

Willing to be proven wrong but I'd place a fair bet that (i) he is not an associate of some gang of criminal masterminds who have smuggled him out of the country and (ii) the attack was not motivated by some elaborate Afghanistan-based gang feud.

By "convoluted" I meant this tale of revenge attack connected to alleged robbery in Afghanistan and alleged shooting of perp's sister.

Phew!

"A picture of the family-of-three with heart emojis covering their faces to hide their identity was attached to the <modnote-fundraising post>

It has already raised thousands of pounds within hours of being set up and been shared by Labour MP for Streatham, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, and Green Party deputy leader Zack Polanski on X, formerly Twitter.

'Our very dear friend, a generous, sweet, loving mother and her two small daughters were recently the victims of a brutal chemical attack in Clapham,' a statement on the fundraising page reads.

'This attack has changed the lives of this wonderful little family forever.

'At what is clearly a shocking and terrible time, we simply hope that their burden of trauma is not added to by financial worries. We desperately want them to have a safe and secure future with the things they need to rebuild their lives and recover from this most horrifying attack.'"

What is the motivation and reasoning of the people helping him?

Tube train (subway in North American), rather than a bus, but yes, he went west to east by public transport, and then doubled back on himself by foot.

strange ...

I can only assume misplaced loyalty or fear? He may still have the substance with him and they know what he's capable of, although presumably he has to sleep at some point

Why is/was he following the river?
Another day, another bridge (that we hear of)

The latest confirmed sighting of Ezedi on CCTV is now on Vauxhall Bridge Road at around 11pm on the night of the attack, January 31.

The woman who was attacked in Clapham remains sedated in hospital and is still too ill to speak to police.

She had agreed to meet Ezedi on the night of the attack, and she and her children were in a car with him when they were injured, police said.

Hundreds of calls have been received from the public with possible sightings of the suspect, who was initially using his bank card to travel around on the Tube network.

His route appears to broadly follow the River Thames, and investigators say they are keeping an open mind about whether he has jumped or been pushed into the water.

I hope they have lots of police keeping her safe in the hospital and her children safe wherever they are.

"Right under their noses:

Clapham chemical fugitive Abdul Ezedi

strolled straight past Met Police headquarters at Scotland Yard

just hours after attack."

Police approach to the CCTV seems very odd. As I understand it the Westminster Bridge footage is prior in time to the Vauxhall Bridge footage, but was released later. Nobody seems to be asking them why. Does that imply that they don't have a continuous sequence?

No doubt there is some value in plotting his prior route (did he drop things, etc) but one would have thought the focus should be on where he went from the last sighting, not where he was before then.

It's now taken them a week to track him for 3 1/2 hours.
