Extraordinary moment Clapham acid attacker Abdul Ezedi was baptised
Abdul Ezedi was considered so dangerous by the Baptist Church it drew up a 'safeguarding contract' for the safety of parishioners over his sex assault conviction.
'Dignified burial'
Ezedi's funeral was conducted by a mosque in west London, and he was given a Muslim burial at a cemetery in east London on 11 March, the BBC has learned.
He is not thought to have been known to the mosque which buried him.
"As a funeral directors, we don't look into people's past, we look at how we can help in a situation," said the Muslim funeral director, who did not want to be named because of sensitivities surrounding the case.
"Our job was just to provide a dignified burial for the deceased."
Those that run the mosque, at which a lot of worshippers have an Afghan background, say Ezedi had never been there.
The mosque often asks for donations to help with the funerals of those who died without known relatives, and frequently conducts funerals and burials for asylum seekers who die alone.
But when it asked for donations in this case, some from the community were upset.
One mosque-goer, who did not want to be identified, said Ezedi had "attacked innocent people" and as he had converted to Christianity, it was the "responsibility of the church to bury him according to his new belief or religion, not the mosque".

Clapham chemical attack suspect was granted asylum despite concerns over honesty

The Clapham chemical attack suspect, Abdul Ezedi, was granted asylum by a judge who accepted he was a Christian convert despite concerns about his honesty, court documents have revealed.
Previously confidential documents disclosed on Tuesday showed how Ezedi, who police believe attacked a mother and her daughters with a strong alkaline substance on 31 January, had been allowed to stay in the UK despite a sexual assault and exposure conviction.
The papers set out how the Afghan national successfully proved his religious conversion from Islam. They also showed those who supported him during the process were aware of his crimes, and that he had to be in effect escorted during church services as a result.
Ezedi’s body was pulled from the River Thames last month. His conversion to Christianity and the role that played in his asylum claim raised questions of the role faith leaders play in conversions and asylum applications.

I suspect if family didn't direct it, then it was the people who put up their hand and said, we'll take care of it.Why was he buried as a muslim if he was apparently a Christian? Who organised that exactly?
That's debatable.Everyone deserves respectful treatment after life,
Serious question - what's the alternative? I'm being absolutely genuine, if someone doesn't deserve respectful treatment in death because of what they did in life then I can't figure out what that treatment would look like.Well I disagree about everyone deserving respectful treatment. Some people's actions in life are unforgivable and this guy's were. JMO. Good riddance.
Paupers funeral I guess. Council just cremates the body with no pomp & circumstance, and then disposes of the ashes.Serious question - what's the alternative? I'm being absolutely genuine, if someone doesn't deserve respectful treatment in death because of what they did in life then I can't figure out what that treatment would look like.
I think that what people are getting at is that there is no reason for anyone to go out of their way to treat the bodies of people like this with any great degree of respect, as opposed to actively treating them disrespectfully. There is a difference. I mean, no one - I don't think - is suggesting that we should be gibbeting these people's remains at the gates of the city walls as used to be done, for instance.Serious question - what's the alternative? I'm being absolutely genuine, if someone doesn't deserve respectful treatment in death because of what they did in life then I can't figure out what that treatment would look like.
I'd have had the body cremated and chucked the ashes in a skip.I suspect if family didn't direct it, then it was the people who put up their hand and said, we'll take care of it.
Doesn't sound like the local Baptists were keen to claim him alive, let alone afterwards.
I respect the funeral director for taking on the responsibility of laying him to rest. Everyone deserves respectful treatment after life, and the Muslim funeral director was the one who stepped up, despite the horrendous actions of this individual.
