A statement issued by the force in response to the allegations said:

“Cheshire Constabulary strongly refutes all the points made during the adjournment debate. It implied impropriety on the part of Cheshire Constabulary where none whatsoever has been established.

“We remain confident in the integrity of the investigation, the conduct of the prosecution, and the decisions reached by the courts.

“Over the past two years the force has come under constant criticism and has been intensely scrutinised and subject to unpleasant opinion from a core group of individuals who appear to pride themselves on spreading misinformation, making baseless claims and attempting to destroy reputations.

“While scrutiny of policing is legitimate and welcome, it is essential that such scrutiny is grounded in fact and does not inadvertently cut across due process, ongoing legal considerations, or the independence of the judiciary.

“The constant noise surrounding this case, inaccurate or partial information being presented as fact and attempts to hi-jack the perceived narrative risk undermining public confidence not only in this case – but in the wider criminal justice system.

Public confidence is best served by evidence-based discussion and responsible commentary – not ill-informed personal opinions and inaccurate details. We are committed to victim-focused justice, public confidence, and the rule of law. Our thoughts remain with the families of the babies – who have always been at the heart of this case.”

Dr Sandie Bohin said she stands by testimony she gave at the former neonatal nurse's trial, which helped convict Letby of the murders and attempted murders of 14 babies in her care.

The consultant neonatologist also wrote reports on nine other infants that Cheshire Police subsequently submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, alleging Letby was responsible for murdering two of them and trying to kill seven more.

[...]

'I was surprised (by the CPS decision),' Dr Bohin said. 'And I can see that the police might be disappointed in that outcome.

'But that's probably all I should say on that.

'I did my reports, and it's up to other people to then decide if it reaches the evidential threshold, but I think that certainly some of them did.'

[...]

In a wide-ranging interview with the Daily Mail's award-winning Trial+ podcast, Dr Bohin, who until recently worked as a paediatrician in Guernsey, revealed she was driven out of her job – and forced off the island, where she has lived and worked for the past 17 years - because of 'hatred' and a 'campaign of misinformation' against her.

[...]

Dr Bohin said she didn't agree with the conclusions of Mr McDonald's new expert panel, who she described as 'ill-informed.'

Lucy Letby's barrister has been reported to the Bar Standards Board for alleged professional misconduct, the Daily Mail has learned.

Families of the killer nurse's victims are understood to have made a formal complaint about Mark McDonald to the legal regulator.

They are angry that the names of their children were included in a letter, sent by the former neo-natal nurse's defence team to a coroner, which was subsequently leaked to a Sunday newspaper.

[...]

At a pre-inquest hearing last month, Jacqueline Devonish, senior coroner for Cheshire, questioned how the Sunday Times had got hold of the correspondence, which was written by Mr McDonald's then-instructing solicitors...

[...]

Ms Devonish warned Mr McDonald against any further leaks, saying: 'Otherwise I will report (it) to the regulatory authorities.'

In an unprecedented intervention, Mark Roberts, Chief Constable of Cheshire Police, has demanded Sir David Davis formally 'correct the record without delay' over 'many errors' and 'materially inaccurate and misleading' comments he made in the House of Commons last month.

[...]

in a strongly worded letter, sent to Sir David, Cheshire MPs, the Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner and Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle, and seen by the Daily Mail, Mr Roberts said the Conservative MP's 'narrative' 'did not withstand basic fact checking.'

Mr Roberts said his speech was 'materially inaccurate…misleading to Parliament' and risked 'undermining the criminal justice system.'

And he called on him to raise a 'point of order' in Parliament to correct the record without delay.

[...]

Mr Roberts also said the investigation, which took six years and involved 250 witnesses, was unique because individual detectives were allocated to each case where a baby's death or collapse could not be medically explained 'to keep a sterile corridor of evidence between cases.'

[...]

Mr Roberts insisted 'no statistical evidence was relied upon in the prosecution case.'

'This is in line with the approach advised by the National Crime Agency,' he added.

He said the Constabulary purposely did not retain the services of an expert statistician, neither did it seek or receive a report from Professor Jane Hutton – who previously revealed she had an initial call with a Cheshire detective about the case.

[...]

'(While) scrutiny of policing is legitimate and welcome, it is essential that such scrutiny is grounded in fact and does not run contrary to due process, ongoing legal considerations, or the independence of the judiciary,' Mr Roberts said.

Sir David declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Mail.

Sir David Davis Letter to Chief Constable Mark Roberts -- 13 April 2026

On 27 March 2026, Cheshire Constabulary issued a press release responding to my adjournment debate suggesting that I and others have been responsible for "spreading misinformation".

The concerns I have raised have been expressed by leading national and international authorities on neonatology, forensics, statistics, law and other relevant specialisms, all of whom have expressed severe concerns about the entire basis of the evidential case that your Constabulary purported to bring. This is not misinformation.

This all indicates an extraordinary attitude to the proper accountability of public servants to the House of Commons. One that I must say is difficult to reconcile with your assertion that "Scrutiny of policing is legitimate and welcome".

If you are, as you suggest, open to scrutiny, I strongly urge you act upon my recommendation that you refer Cheshire Constabulary to another independent force via His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) for an independent review of the Operation Hummingbird investigation.
