Mr Mousley said Nicholson had agreed to give the girl a tattoo, but before agreeing to meet, he began to "pester" her for sex. He said the girl had told Nicholson he was 14 and they did later have sex.

Lucy McHugh, 13, 'murdered after secret sexual relationship'

William Mousley QC, prosecuting, said Lucy's "vicious murder" took place on the morning of 25 July. Her body was found the next day by a dog walker.

The trial, which is expected to last up to six weeks, continues.

Mr Mousley said in police interview that Nicholson denied the murder and said he had not seen Lucy on the day of her death. Nicholson said he had received a message from her the night before, claiming she was pregnant. He said she also sent him a message that morning, saying she was getting dressed because he believed she was "obsessed" with him.

Nicholson told police he switched his phone and disposed of his other phone because he believed he would be arrested for Lucy's murder - because he matched the description of a person police were looking for in relation to the investigation.

Mr Mousley tells the court that Nicholson was interview again, once the discovery of the clothes and phone data had come to light. Nicholson made no comment, Mr Mousley said.

Mr Mousley ends his opening by telling the jury that in the prosecution's eyes there is "one inescapable conclusion, that Stephen Nicholson is guilty on each and every count."

With that, the trial will take a 15 minute break. After the break, the prosecution will begin to present its evidence, which will include calling two witnesses.

A witness takes to the stand, she will talk about what she saw when she was walking her dog in the grounds of the Sports Centre in Southampton on July 25.

She says how she saw a young girl walking towards her in the direction of the cricket pitches - she was walking 'with a purpose'.

She said she thought it was 'unusual' to see a girl walking on her own in the Sports Centre.

The witness says she later saw images of Lucy as part of the police appeals and thought it was the same girl she had seen at the Sports Centre.

He’s tried to be smart with the phone and the bonfire but obvs not that smart.

I did wonder if we would hear about a possible pregnancy when I heard about having ‘the hold’ earlier.

Poor Lucy, all this going on in her home.

On a side note - that man should never have been allowed to tattoo, advertise tattooing or charge for tattooing. His ‘work’ is an abomination. Less serious than the charges he is up on now though.

His questions are factual ones, asking about times and dates among other things. Mr Newton-Price asks if she is sure she saw the girl holding a phone or not. She says she could not be sure it was a phone.

A new witness is called - a police officer based at Redbridge. He was called to the Sports Centre on July 26, to reports of the discovery of the body of a young female.
