GUILTY UK - Lucy McHugh, 13, murdered,, Southampton, 25 July 2018

I share your sentiments.

Finding it uncomfortable reading that it is coming down to Lucy being portrayed as an attention seeking liar and in some way responsible.

Even if she was telling lies and seeking attention - there was a reason for it and I believe she was failed by people around her long before she was murdered.

There doesn't appear to be much of an outpouring of grief or sympathy for Lucy JIMO

I wonder why the elderly friend was not a witness. Wouldn't he be able to confirm or deny that SN was at his house the whole time during the timeframe in question? And wouldn't he also be able to describe the state of mind SN was in? Maybe he is too ill?

I wondered why he was not called.... perhaps not well enough and/ or he might not be convincing enough

This. I wonder whether SN's part-time dealing made him a more attractive houseguest to this lot. WTH would Lucy's family not entertain the possibility that she was telling the truth -- and, even if they didn't believe her, at least ask one major source of tension in the house to leave it?

I said earlier that this case reminds me of Becky Watts, another child/young woman who could seem to get help or make herself be believed. It seems like believing your child in such circumstances should be the default position. Dealing with the embarrassment if they are making it up seems like a preferable alternative to losing them to a brutal death.

Just going back thru the evidence, looking for something and noticed this. So the defence statement that Lucy had been talking about being pregnant for * months* seems accurate.
Also I thought she lived at g/mothers for 6 months from end of 2017 ?

Mr Mousley said that Lucy had expressed concerns she may have been pregnant around the time of Nicholson's birthday in May 2018, the court hears.

Looks like they might have had a question.

I hadn't registered before that it was a Tesco bag found with the dumped clothing - does that mean he cycled back to the house without the bag he was seen with earlier? I remember reading something about his bag looking less full.

He reiterated that Nicholson denied knowing how a Tesco bag containing blood-stained clothing with DNA links to Lucy and Nicholson ended up dumped in Tanner’s Brook.

Does anyone know when Lucy's 13th birthday was? I'm wondering when this lines up with her staying at Dawn's house. I think being in year 8 means she would have been 12 when September term started.

I also had not realised the Tesco bag was found at Tanners Brook - that sounds more like someone taking the clothing to the area at a later date ?
There does not appear to be any footage of SN/someone cycling without the Tesco bag ?

Also, the clear bike footage is from Tuesday July 24, far as I know. The only footage I have seen from July 25 is the grainy footage at the sports centre.

This is what I’ve found odd all along. Where are the tabloid “monster” headlines and the baying for blood? Even on here, people don’t seem to be as invested as they’ve been in certain other cases. Thank you to the posters who’ve kept the court reports up to date.

My heart hurts for all these girls who keep on falling through the cracks. Why does no-one ever seem to care for them until it’s too late.

This is a stark contrast from little Alesha Mcphail trial, where is Lucy’s mother and all her family? If the defence were pointing the finger at my innocent partner I would want to get word out that he is not involved. This wall of silence isn’t doing any good for the prosecution imo
