Marc hasn’t been seen since around 9am on Saturday 23 December and he hasn’t been in touch with anyone since then. He may still be in the locality.

Marc is 44 year-old, has short dark blond hair and 5ft 11ins tall. He was last seen wearing a Goose jacket with a furry collar, brown jeans and rust-coloured top. He is wearing black trainers and has a cross tattoo on his wrist.

Considering he's from Buckinghamshire but went missing from Hockley, and the time of year. It seems likely he was in Essex visiting family and went missing from there (IMO.) Christmas and visiting relatives can be a big stressor in terms of mental health and domestic incidents (or both.)

The above Facebook group has a lot of mention of trains, taxi companies and homeless shelters as places to look but nothing on a vehicle so I'd guess (only a guess) he isn't thought to have driven off. Hockley does have a train station so if he left the area that would be the easiest way.

Hopefully he just couldn't hack it with the family this year and booked himself in somewhere for a few days of R&R. The other options are fairly grim.

Marc was seen at 08.45 walking alone from Woodside Road towards Guide Woods. I read this information on Southend Echo, sorry as I am unable to link

I got you.

It's sort of in the direction of the train station, though the route would only make sense if his family lived right on the edge of the woods and would be a good half hour walk. He might have been doing a scenic loop through the woods to get out the house or gone to visit someone if he grew up in the area - though considering the size of the place, I'm sure everyone knows of this and if he'd been seen since it would have been known.

My only real thought is I'd bet those woods are used for a lot of dog walkers, cyclists, riders and ramblers. In the days around Christmas in particular, a lot of families will go out for a walk together. They arn't that big, if he'd been walking along the usual paths in the woods, I'd have expected him to pass a fair few people, even early doors.

Marc Jones, 44, of Marlow, disappeared whilst visiting family in Hockley on Saturday, December 23.

At 8.45am on Saturday, Marc walked alone towards Guide Woods from Woodside Road at the bottom of Bullwood Approach.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “He has not been seen since. This is completely out of character for Marc.

“Essex Police did an aerial search that first day. Nothing was found in Hockley woods from that search.

“It has now been passed on to Thames Valley Police who are supporting with searches in Marc’s home town of Marlow.”

It would be interesting to know if it was 'passed on' to TVP or if they are 'assisting.'

For a missing persons investigation to be passed from the one police force (where they were last seen,) to another there has to be evidence that the missing person is now in the new area (sightings, phone data etc.) If TVP has taken the investigation over it would mean there is reasonable evidence he's travelled to their ground. If TVP are just being asked to assist by doing common sense checks (like his home address) then Essex Police likely don't have evidence he has left their area.

Police have launched a desperate hunt for a father who was last seen walking towards woods in Essex after visiting family two days before Christmas.

Marc Jones disappeared from Hockley, near Southend-on-Sea, where he was visiting relatives with his 11-year-old son.

The 44-year-old, from Marlow, Bucks, was wearing a dark, padded jacket with a furry hood alongside brown trousers and a rust-coloured top when he disappeared early in the morning nearly a week ago.

Mr Jones has a cross tattoo on his wrist, short, dark brown hair and is 5'11" tall.

Family say this is 'completely out of character for Marc', with the search now being conducted by both Essex and Thames Valley Police forces.

[...]

Organisers have praised the 'heroic efforts' of volunteers as they try to track Mr Jones down.

But they say they are 'no closer to locating' him as they desperately appeal for help.

They hope that he will still be in the local vicinity, and say all the main routes through the woods have now been walked.

Essex Police are said to have done an aerial search, and they have asked any sightings to be immediately reported to the force.

Really sad news.RIP Marc and our thoughts go out to all your family & friends.
The search for Marc Jones has been halted after the body of a man was located in #Hockley Woods early this morning, Saturday 30 December.

Although formal identification is yet to be carried out, Marc’s family have been informed of the development and are being supported by officers from Thames Valley Police.

Marc, 44, from Marlow, in Buckinghamshire, had travelled to see family in Essex before Christmas and was reported missing to us on Saturday 23 December.

Alongside colleagues in Thames Valley Police (TVP), we have worked to pursue reasonable lines of enquiry to locate Marc, including following up sightings which were reported to us and to TVP colleagues.

We will provide an update on our investigation as soon as we practically can.

At this time, our thoughts are very much with Marc’s family and those close to him.

Oh no! RIP.

Damn. I was really hoping he was just taking time for himself and dodging police.

From the comments on his Facebook I think his wife might have died some time back. His poor son.

The world is just infuriatingly bleak sometimes.

Rest in Peace Marc, I am sorry you didn't find the help you needed to stay with us.
