Police and the family of missing person 55 year old Marian O’Neill are increasingly concerned of her whereabouts.

Sergeant Blair said: “Marian was last seen near the footbridge in the Ballycolman area of Strabane at around 9:17 am on Monday 4th January.

“She was last seen wearing a red jacket, dark trousers and white shoes.”

“We would ask Marian or anyone that knows her whereabouts to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 769 04/01/21.”

Missing Strabane woman's family 'very concerned' but still hopeful

The family of a missing Co Tyrone woman have said they remain hopeful she will be found alive. He said Ms O'Neill's family were "very concerned" but trying to remain hopeful.

Police are keen to speak to a dog walker who may have crossed paths with missing Strabane woman Marian O'Neill on Monday morning at approximately 10am.

Police say that would have occurred along the bottom of a field which would be adjacent to the Strabane Golf Course which runs along side the river. Marian would have been walking in the direction of Sion Mills and the dog walker towards Strabane.

Apparently Foyle Search and Rescue have been involved in the search for her since Jan 6, using drones.

SAD NEWS TONIGHT

For over a week our volunteers have carried out extensive searches in the Strabane area for a local person who went missing on Monday, 4th January.

Local CRS volunteers were joined by other CRS search teams and specialist equipment from all over the Province, and alongside the police and our colleagues from Foyle Search and Rescue, the local Kayak Club and SARDA IN we have all been working tirelessly to bring the missing person back to their family. Members of the local community have joined alongside family and friends in searching every day and late into the night.

We regret to inform you that this afternoon a body believed to be that of the missing person was located downstream from Strabane after being spotted by a observant kayaker. The deceased was recovered in a joint operation involving the Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Garda and CRS boats and CRS SAR teams.

Our thanks go out to the entire Strabane Community and to everyone who helped in the search, provided food and refreshments or other support for those involved in the search.

The Management and Volunteers of the Community Rescue Service extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased at this most difficult time.
