The expert haughtily brags about having “20 years of experience” when questioned on if he knows macullum is lying or not.

I’m a little shocked they’ve allowed this evidence, there is literally no evidence that he was abused at all. For all we know he’s made the whole thing up. For a forensic psychologist to come in and give his opinion (that the jury may take as factual) on why he did what he did, with zero evidence any abuse even happened in the first place is just ???

I’m not sure how this is a defence I really don’t understand.

Let’s not forget McCullum is on trial for murder, he’s clearly going to try and say whatever he can to get away with it. I hope that’s made very clear to the jury.

I know! Last we heard the psychologist was on the stand being cross examined and I assumed that was going to be it for the defence.
I expected summing up and the jury being sent out by the end of the week…I just checked Leicester crown court listings and no sign of him?

“In the witness box, he claimed his mental health issue was triggered during Megan's visit on Friday, August 6, last year. But while on remand in prison, McCullam had suggested he would use his mental health as a "tool" at trial, the court heard.

McCullam - who will be sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on Friday, December 16 - also claimed, during the trial, that he only used a knife because he was scared people – including Ms Newborough – might be "cross" at him for having strangled her. But a prison guard had heard him joking openly and bragging about using the knife, telling fellow inmates "if I had gone a bit further I’d have taken her head off".

But jurors heard how the young woman had “left clues” to the truth by the defensive wounds and marks on her body inflicted at McCullam’s parents’ home, where he struck.

There were signs Ms Newborough had fought desperately to fend off McCullam in the lounge.

“She was covered in injuries, from her shin to the crown of her head,” said Mr Cammegh.

There were grip marks to both shoulders, and her left arm, likely inflicted as McCullam attempted to “silence” her, and suggesting a “sustained, long, merciless, struggle”.

Her FitBit had also been ripped off in the attack and was later recovered underneath a nearby television.”

That is really poor, I hope it gets referred to the attorney general. That’s a disgrace I’m sorry. I expected at least 27/28 for the sheer brutality. He laughed on the stand while being questioned about watching p o r n after murdering her ???? The aftermath, the fact he was bragging in custody about nearly taking her head off. I mean how did they come up with 23? What a utter disgrace

You’ve got the police saying they believe he would have become a serial killer Yet the judge decides a minimum tariff of 23 years which means he could be released as young as 52?????

I don’t know why they’ve decided to share a picture of his bedroom, but it’s disgusting.

I’m also horrified by the sentence (or lack thereof). My biggest fear is, if he hadn’t of slit her throat, would the jury have found him not guilty?
I don’t think he will have an easy time in prison. He sounds like a very weak and deeply unpopular person. They will probably bully him.

Would be interested to know how on earth they reached that sentence. He pleaded not guilty so no discount, significant desecration of the body, attempts to hide the body and cover his tracks, clear sadism on display and a total lack of remorse.
