Man, 18, killed in city centre attack died from multiple injuries

An 18-year-old man who died after being attacked in Liverpool city centre has now been formally identified as Michael Toohey.

Michael, of Oil Street, Liverpool, was found with multiple injuries at an internet café on London Road. He was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital but died a short time later.

Merseyside Police said his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. The results of a post mortem have confirmed Michael died from multiple injuries. A murder investigation into the 18-year-old's death remains ongoing and CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries continue to be carried out.

A 34 year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath said: “We are continuing to follow a number of lines of enquiry and I would ask anyone who has not already contacted us, to do so as a matter of urgency.

''Michael's family issued the following tribute: "Michael was what you'd describe as a beautiful well mannered placid young man, soon to be a daddy to a young boy who's due in just three months.

"Michael was academically clever at school and left Everton free school at 17 to go on to work with his brother-in-laws in a family business.

"Michael loved going to the gym and going on long bike rides with family and friends.

"Michael was always doing something for someone whether that be tormenting his sisters or teasing his nieces and nephews, he was such a character but never had a bad bone in his body, and never had a bad word to say about anybody.

"Michael was adored by everybody who had the pleasure to meet him. His cheeky smile would light up any room, he was kind caring courageous and idolised his sisters and was a brilliant uncle.''

The area is a huge area with many shopping areas, restaurants, walkways, bars.

I wonder if he was attacked in a street and then wandered into the cafe.

They also said they arrested a woman who helped the offender. Does that mean she knows who it is?
She's 34, is it the offenders mother? Is the offender older.

I feel like they are close to figuring this out

I wonder why no details of the offender, if they know who assisted them? Underage?

I know UK doesnt release names but nothing suggests they got the suspect. Maybe they are not mentioning it to make the person think he/she got away and then grab them?

Its weird they arrested an accomplice so quickly but not the perp.

the area is 100% covered in more cameras than probably most other places in Liverpool

"Michael ran for his life that fatal day and begged to be saved."
''Mr Toohey was chased into an internet café on Liverpool's London Road on a Saturday afternoon.
Police said there had been a dispute between rival drugs gangs in that area.
Judge David Aubrey KC said the boy made a phone call to Keiron Williams to tell him that Mr Toohey was in the area. He said this was effectively a "call to arms with the intention that Michael was to be taught a lesson".

The judge said that during the attack, Keiron Williams told Mr Toohey: "I am going to stab you. I will not let you go. I will tell you who the gangster is."

The judge added that he was satisfied the attack was part of a drugs turf war. He described it as "swift, brutal, ferocious and sustained".
In a victim impact statement, Mr Toohey's family said: "Michael… had his whole life ahead of him; he had a baby on the way. He had started to turn his life around. Michael was excited and making future plans for the arrival of his baby, wanting to leave the past behind him.
"Our mother cries constantly and refuses to leave her bed for days on end, often waking up screaming in the night. We have watched our mother and father deteriorate from fun-loving parents and grandparents into the heartbroken souls they've become."
