Not sure if the link will work but here is a floor plan for one of the 4 bed properties in Ferry gait crescent, Bedroom 1,2 and 3 are upstairs and bedroom 4 is close to the entrance door.

From these plans it seems possible the twins could have slept downstairs away from mum and their siblings. Do parents among you think it's likely three year olds would be given that room, a floor away from parent?

Ok so I'm seeing much mention of CCTV. Is Edinburgh a town with cameras everywhere all the time going ? I've seen a film about that and I think it was in Scotland now that I think of it . Basically any spot on any street has several cameras showing every thing going on always, 24/7 , correct? So if that town is under like that , there would have to be something somewhere.

No way! I'm not even comfortable with my young kids being in a bedroom down the hall from me, much less on a different floor. (thankfully, neither is the case)

OT, I'm sorry and don't mean to bring a chuckle to this very serious and heart breaking case, but in the US I think " gone for a wander" means ' deadbeat dad', right? It's interesting the terminology that paints his dad in a somewhat jovial and adventure seeking light vs. walked out on his kids.

I would never sleep my children in the room closest to the main entrance with us sleeping on a separate floor...never! However, that is not to say that others do not do this.

Mum says she put Mikaeel to bed at 9, but I wonder what time she went to bed and whether she left the building to put bins out etc. before she went to bed?

I don't think the can be any CCTV recording who goes in and out of the building or the police would be able to tell us for definite whether he'd wandered out.

There's not CCTV on every Street but Edinburgh and Glasgow have a LOT of CCTV. I don't know this for certain but I would say they will have CCTV in the local area.

Sky news are reporting a crime scene at another flat in the Street.

Yes Edinburgh has a lot of CCTV, but Mikaeels home is not in the city centre, it's on a housing estate, a suburb. The flats do look pretty new, they may have CCTV installed BUT where I live does, the thing is the cameras are fake, dummies put up as a deterrent by our housing association. We were even informed.

I'e been looking at the maps, places like petrol stations will have CCTV, and off licenses (liquor stores) which you will find in residential areas. I need to look closer and see if there is any in the area.

Interesting and this may sound naive but it seems to me that across the pond parents are a lot less fearful than US parents so maybe it is normal. Maybe there are not as many creeps, RSOs, etc. so they feel their children are safer . I know I've seen things like parents leaving a baby in a stroller on the porch of a cafe because the baby is asleep. They go in and eat and come back and baby is fine, but that would NEVER happen in the US or someone would go to jail. See?

If they are still thinking he left the home on his own, surely someone would have spotted a little tot wandering the streets on his own?...

Was the police activity about a mile from his home ruled out of any connection?

Sky News (tv) are reporting that police are looking at a "second crime scene" but I don't have any further information as to what that means.

Coastguard are out searching the shoreline Cramond/Drylaw area.

I'm not local but being in UK would not use the downstairs bedroom for 3 year old twins, but every family/parent is different. I noticed that one of the upstairs bedrooms has the en-suite so I would presume (loosely) that would be mum's room or a teenager. I suppose it would depend on how old the other children are in the family, whether any of the other children had special needs and whether the mother thought the entrance door and building were very secure. My thoughts are that at age 3 the twins would probably share a room, which makes me think that if Mikaeel was to get up he would possibly wake his twin sister to join in an adventure, but maybe others would not normally place a boy and girl in the same room. I really don't think that he has left by himself.

The TV news has gone very quiet with regards to Mikaeel here in the UK this afternoon

This may be true, but I think the UK is stricter than other European countries. I believe a Danish? woman was arrested for leaving her baby outside a London store.

Certainly, I have been surprised by the freedom children in Germany and Holland seem to have, compared to British children.
