Interesting and this may sound naive but it seems to me that across the pond parents are a lot less fearful than US parents so maybe it is normal. Maybe there are not as many creeps, RSOs, etc. so they feel their children are safer . I know I've seen things like parents leaving a baby in a stroller on the porch of a cafe because the baby is asleep. They go in and eat and come back and baby is fine, but that would NEVER happen in the US or someone would go to jail. See?
I think we are just as worried. I've not seen people leaving their kids like that since the late 80s early 90s. For my parents the Jamie Bulger case and another local case scared them and we were no longer allowed to play as far from home as previously. Of course there are some parents who don't see the danger and allow their kids a lots of freedom.
