Interesting and this may sound naive but it seems to me that across the pond parents are a lot less fearful than US parents so maybe it is normal. Maybe there are not as many creeps, RSOs, etc. so they feel their children are safer . I know I've seen things like parents leaving a baby in a stroller on the porch of a cafe because the baby is asleep. They go in and eat and come back and baby is fine, but that would NEVER happen in the US or someone would go to jail. See?

I think we are just as worried. I've not seen people leaving their kids like that since the late 80s early 90s. For my parents the Jamie Bulger case and another local case scared them and we were no longer allowed to play as far from home as previously. Of course there are some parents who don't see the danger and allow their kids a lots of freedom.

Sky News (tv) are reporting that police are looking at a "second crime scene" but I don't have any further information as to what that means.

Coastguard are out searching the shoreline Cramond/Drylaw area.

And Drylaw was one of the first places police decided to search too. They must know something we don't.

This is definately NOT the case. One would end up being contacted by social services, if you wern't arrested first.
I know of NO parents who would leave their child outside, certainly not now. My mother in law talks of leaving my husband outside shops with other babies/prams... almost 50 years ago. Even then it was a small town and I doubt the same happend in cities. Certainly not now.

Nor would I allow my children to sleep on another floor to me. I check my children several times during the night, every night. When I go to bed, when I use the bathroom, when I get a drink etc etc. They sleep on the same floor as me and just along the hall. I pop my head round their doors and more often than not kiss them goodnight... again!

I have to go do the school run so I hope for good news on my return.

TY for clarifying. Things are way worse now than 20 yrs ago !

I'm not local, but I'm in the uk and I think parents around my area are worried and fearful,
Our social services would be called in if a baby was to be left outside while parents were inside having a meal etc,
However, there will always be some parents who don't watch little ones all the time or allow them to roam free. X

I just found a link showing where cctv cameras are situated throughout Edinburgh, here is the link:

http://217.174.251.127/LocalViewExt...,91&bmid=a78cd0de-6238-4f60-8de2-fca4e41204f9

This is a fantastic find, thank you. I finally managed to work my way around it, and it seems to me there are three cameras around the only road exit from Ferry Gait. All the other roads are cul de sacs or dead ends. But unless there is a fence there, it seems a person could cut across the recreation ground at the other end, where there are no cameras?

But a fair few more cameras around Drylaw. Could explain why they focused a search there, have they seen something?

IMO too conspicuous to still be out there somewhere wandering about, lost and cold. I may have believed that could have been the situation last night but not now...

Sky News live - Police have important information as to what has happened.

That was just reported on TV but it's a bit cryptic and they didn't really explain what they meant

I have updated the map with the information of where the forensics investigation is going on in the flat around the corner...

https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msi...0&ll=55.967812,-3.26023&spn=0.002002,0.004908

Thanks. That flat is even closer to the recreation ground, which does have a footpath leading directly from Ferry Gait. And apparently, no fence or cctv. :(

And from the recreation ground, it seems a person could maybe make their way to the golf course without using main roads. And from there, get to the water.

The writing is quite blurred, but comparing it with google satellite I think you are right about the recreation area. Their is a walkway off Ferry Gait Drive too that will bring you out onto Ferry Road, there are cameras on Ferry Road but if he had turned into Silverknowes view, he could have avoided the cameras and headed North West. This is presuming he was alone and walking. I am very concerned about him now, it will be getting dark in the next hour and a half :(

I had to go out of the room and missed it, typical. Have they elaborated any yet?

I am listening too, but must have missed it. I am at work, so easily distracted.

Here is the link if anyone else wants to listen...

No, not yet. It was at the start of the last segment. Now they're looking at other news. I hope they have a press conference soon, it's been a while since the last one.
