The family of a man who went missing in the UK earlier this month are asking people on the Island to check the Manx coastline.

Nicholas DeGraff was last seen in Workington in Cumbria on December 12 and divers have been searching the nearby river Derwent without success.

His sister Charlotte DeGraff has appealed on Facebook for people around the Irish Sea to keep their eyes peeled for her brother.

He has face and neck tattoos, and was wearing a black jacket, black jogging bottoms, and work boots.

THE family of missing Workington man Nicholas Degraff fear that he drowned in the River Derwent, his sister has told the BBC.

Mr Degraff left an address in Great Clifton at about 4.30am on Sunday,December 12 intending to walk home to Workington, but he did not arrive.

He was last seen in Rosemary Gardens, Great Clifton, at about 5am heading west towards Workington.

The family brought in private divers to help with the search after a Just Giving page set up to pay for the team after more than £18,000 was raised to help pay for the divers.

Speaking to the BBC his sister Charlotte Degraff ,said: "A lot of evidence points towards the river and police believe he's gone into it.

"But the private divers we hired, who did three days searching, say are 99.9% sure Nicholas is not in the river.

"We haven't ruled out [the chance] he's not in the river but there's a chance he's gone out to sea as well."

"We haven't got any confirmation but we are preparing ourselves that he has gone in the river.

"Ultimately, we just want him back. He was carrying his plastic welding mask in a carrier bag when he went missing and we think if that went in the river it would've floated so we're asking people to keep an eye out for that as well."

... Charlotte Degraff told Cumbria Crack: “As a family, we have definitely not given up looking for Nic, the police are still in contact with us doing what they can and West Cumbria Missing Persons Search and Rescue are still actively out searching daily.

“We would still like the public to be aware that Nic is missing, especially so that they are wary when out walking by the river from Workington to Clifton and any of the coastal areas.

“His welding mask is still missing which is a key piece of evidence (he had this in a white Aldi carrier bag). As a family, we are also looking into other resources with the gofundme money that was raised.”

The fundraiser has so far brought in more than £18,000.

Charlotte added: “If there was anyone who spoke to Nic in the early hours of December 12 that has not already told us, please come forward as this could be vital information.”

It has been reported that a man's body has been found in Workington harbour. There are no other details at present, so we don't know if it is that of Nicholas. You would hope his family have been informed of this development.

Was the dog found?

Yes, but it wasn't found with the body today - it was the discovery of Nicholas's distressed dog by the river that sparked the search initially.

Interesting to see what comes of this. Steven Stuart is also still missing from Whitehaven from the 10th of January.
Nicholas welders mask and supermarket plastic bag the mask was carried in is still missing.

Although on second thoughts, maybe not.

Irish Sea was where they thought Nicholas's body could have drifted to.

A man’s body has been found in the sea near the Port of Workington.

Police and partner agencies are currently in the area of the port.

A spokesman said the discovery of the man took place at about 11.40am this morning.

They added: “The public may see a continued policing presence in the area whilst enquiries are conducted.”

No official identification has been released.

Someone missing from Whitehaven has been found safe and well (it doesn't say who - see link below from Cumbria police). Which is fantastic, but the discovery in the sea is heartbreaking.

Yes there was somebody found, but i think there was another guy missing. Police have said it was a 29 year old man. I think Steven Stuart is a bit older and his police post is still up.

The family of missing Workington man Nicholas Degraff say they won’t know if a body found in the sea is him for at least two weeks.

Police issued a statement yesterday to say a body had been found near the Port of Workington in the sea at around 11.40am.

It has been reported that the man was found by a dredger in Workington Harbour.

Charlotte Degraff, Nicholas’ sister said: “It could take up to two weeks to identify so until then we won’t be able to confirm it is Nic.

“As soon as we know, we will of course let everyone know.

“It’s been a crazy, heartbreaking six weeks so until then I will be spending the time with my family while we try to process it.

“I hope we’ve found you Nicholas Degraff and you’re safe now.”

That's very sad news indeed, if not unexpected. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones; my sincere condolences to them. I hope having him back will give them some solace.
