THE family of missing
Workington man Nicholas Degraff fear that he drowned in the River Derwent, his sister has told the BBC.
Mr Degraff left an address in Great Clifton at about 4.30am on Sunday,December 12 intending to walk home to Workington, but he did not arrive.
He was last seen in Rosemary Gardens, Great Clifton, at about 5am heading west towards Workington.
The family brought in private divers to help with the search after a Just Giving page set up to pay for the team after more than £18,000 was raised to help pay for the divers.
Speaking to the BBC his sister Charlotte Degraff ,said: "A lot of evidence points towards the river and police believe he's gone into it.
"But the private divers we hired, who did three days searching, say are 99.9% sure Nicholas is not in the river.
"We haven't ruled out [the chance] he's not in the river but there's a chance he's gone out to sea as well."
"We haven't got any confirmation but we are preparing ourselves that he has gone in the river.
"Ultimately, we just want him back. He was carrying his plastic welding mask in a carrier bag when he went missing and we think if that went in the river it would've floated so we're asking people to keep an eye out for that as well."
