Now his identity has been confirmed he will face questions over claims he raped photographer M. M., 41, at her home in Essex during a five-week abusive relationship which he started after fleeing his home in Rhode Island.
An Essex Police spokesman told the Daily Record: “We are aware of a decision made by a Scottish court in relation to a man arrested there. We are now liaising with Scottish authorities in order to facilitate an interview with the man regarding a non-recent allegation of rape in Chelmsford which was made to us in April 2022.”

M. says Rossi arrived at her door with suitcases in June 2017 after targeting her on a dating website and convincing her to let him stay with her. M., who waived her anonymity to reveal her relationship with Rossi, said: “It’s taken too long but it’s a relief that he’s now recognised as who I said he was all along. I’m glad Essex Police is finally doing something.” She added of her quest for justice: "I just felt completely helpless because they said I might not get a conviction because it’s a ‘he said she said’ situation but I just want him to be behind bars for the rest of his life, it doesn’t matter where. “I know people in America will have more evidence than me and are awaiting their own day in court. Although [it would throw] my own case under the bus, I feel like I want him extradited as soon as possible so that he is far away from me.”

Good for you, M! I strongly believe she will see justice served on this monster. It may very well be a "he said she said" case, but Nicholas has already lost his credibility with the court in Scotland and is wanted by multiple agencies in the U.S. I don't doubt the evidence against him is super strong which is why U.S. authorities are going through the trouble and expense to get him back on U.S. soil. Who, besides his wife, would believe much of anything he has to say at this point? MOO

It’ll be interesting to see what he’ll come up with this time. His wife is still standing by him though…

Fugitive rape suspect Nicholas Rossi was watched by a pair of FBI agents as he gave his bogus testimony in a Scots court. Two plain-clothes agents slipped into Edinburgh Sheriff Court to be present when Rossi gave evidence that he was actually an Irish orphan.

Snip

The agents travelled to the capital to watch the hearing held to determine Rossi’s true identity last month and sat incognito among reporters and court staff. It’s believed they were gathering any information which could help prosecute Rossi in America and assist with the extradition bid.

...he should face perjury charges for lying to the Archbishop of Canterbury to secure his marriage.

Breaching the Perjury Act by “wilfully signing a false declaration” risks a two-year jail term or a fine.

Outraged Dave, of Johnson, Rhode Island — who previously branded his stepson “evil” - said: “That’s a serious crime.

“It gets worse and worse. He’s faked his death and his name. Prosecutors should add this to everything else and put him away for life.”

Asking Sheriff McFadyen for bail, Rossi said: “I’ve been treated incredibly terribly. My wife is afraid to enter the prison.

“I’ve been treated terribly. I’ve been bullied on a daily basis. I’ve kept in my cell 24 hours a day. This includes singing of the song `Leaving on a Jet Plane’.”

Rossi also accused prison chiefs of the “masterful sabotage” of his relationship with his eighth set of lawyers during the hearing.

Snip

He said he was now going to represent himself...

# Oh, boy! Prepare yourselves for Darrell Brooks part deux.

In a courtroom rant lasting nearly three hours,...[snip] Sheriff McFadyen adjourned the hearing, which will deal with the issue of identity with regards to the second extradition warrant, until February 15. A full hearing in the case is expected to take place on March 6. The sheriff refused Rossi’s request for bail.

3 hours to tell the court he's being bullied by singing prisoners and that the prison chiefs have conspired against him?!? o_O My word. The American justice system better get the tents ready. The circus is coming to town.

I'm sure the singing is probably true, but a reason to get bail? Good luck to whichever the next judiciary is that has the pleasure of his company.

I hadn't been following this case until watching this Dateline story. I'm wondering -- why does his wife M stay with him and make up a back story for him, claiming to have met him at a time when that would have been impossible? It sounds like she also might've been the one who asked for a funeral mass to be said for him. In that case, she was colluding with him. I'm curious about her own background...

Why would M collude with him? Does she believe other things he said? Does he treat her differently from the way he's treated other women? That would be unusual. Is she also afraid of him?

During the part I'm watching now, M had an odd expression -- seemed almost ironic to me.

That was wild… I don’t know what’s in for M honestly… she wants to believe him?
He’s just such a nightmare of a human.

It couldn't have hurt to have gotten all that money from the vegan cheese maker. He's abused all the other women around him, but I think this is a different kind of partnership. The way she pushed him back down in the chair and kept closing her eyes when responding to questions...I'm sure it's hard for anyone to pull off a long con, but they are really bad at it, JMO

They're both obviously horrible people and all but this is fascinating to watch. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when all the planning for this went down.

It's probably easier to trick people via email and phone calls. They just don't come off well in person. I can't get over the eye movements when either responds to a question, along with the accent and the Winston Churchill costume :)

I'm glad he's behind bars and can't hurt more women. I'll bet more comes out about all this sooner or later.

Can they not force him for DNA? Also if they follow him surely he will leave his dna somewhere.

I believe they have it and that's why he is in custody (and has been for a while)

On April 21, NBC's "Dateline" aired the interview in an episode about the case. Alahverdian, 35, was charged in connection with a 2008 rape in Utah.

Officials say Alahverdian, who also goes by the alias Nicholas Rossi, has spent more than a year fighting extradition to the United States from Scotland after he was arrested on rape charges in December 2021 at a Glasgow hospital where he was being treated for COVID-19. Authorities identified him through fingerprints and tattoos.
[snip]
"We were once a normal family, but thanks to the media our lives have been interrupted," he says, gasping into an oxygen mask in a strange accent. "And we'd like privacy and I would like to go back to being a normal husband, but I can't because I can't breathe, I can't walk. People say that's an act. Let me try and stand up…"

Then, in a bizarre move, he tries to prove he is not faking his disability by dramatically attempting to stand up, flailing around before being caught by his wife, as he says: "Exactly, exactly,"
