As a result of police enquiries, officers have said they became increasing concerned that some harm may have come to Norma and the investigation has now been passed to homicide detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command.

Officers are conducting searches of several addresses and have contacted friends and relatives, but so far have been unable to locate Norma.

Ms Girolami, who police say left no sign of leaving at her current home in Cholmeley Park, Highgate, formerly lived at a £1.4million property in nearby Cromwell Avenue before she sold it in 2017.

A 39-year-old man was arrested at an address in Islington while a 34-year-old woman was arrested at an address in Finchley.

Both were initially arrested on suspicion of fraud and false imprisonment, but both were subsequently further arrested on suspicion of murder.

They were taken into custody, where the 39-year-old man remains. The 34-year-old woman has been released on bail to a date later this month

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn said: 'Norma has not been seen by her friends or family since the middle of August.

'As a result of our investigation we are extremely concerned that Norma may have come to some harm.

'Her home shows no sign of her planning to leave, food was left in her fridge and she said nothing to her friends and relatives.

'This is completely out of character and as more and more time has passed, this has only added to our fears that some harm has come to her.

'In view of these concerns for her welfare, and to stop the anguish her friends and relatives are enduring, it is imperative that anyone with information contacts police.

'If anyone knows anything about where Norma may be, has witnessed anything from mid-August to mid-September in the area that Norma lived or if you know anything about what may have happened to Norma, then please contact police...'

Reported missing on Sept 20 but still no police appeals (only at missing people). If i found the right fb account (same name in London) last post was August 15 but a regular poster on animal rights, planet concerns etc. I can see how her disappearance is out of character and really hoping shes out there alive but its very concerning.

Norma Girolami from Highgate, North London, was reported missing on Monday, September 20.

She had not been seen by her friends and family since mid-August.

Police now say they've arrested a 39-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman on suspicion of murder.

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "We always had cordial exchanges.

"She was courteous and a very nice person.

"I haven’t seen her for a long time.’’

Another neighbour added: "She was very friendly and always said 'hello' even though I did not know her well.

"She would pop in occasionally if she needed something and I would see her in the park.’’

Norma lived in a £900,000 flat in a three storey block of nine apartments.

Cops say the man and woman suspected of killing her were initially arrested on suspicion of fraud and false imprisonment.

The family of a pensioner missing from north London say her disappearance is “totally out of character” and desperately appealed for witnesses to come forward as detectives launched a murder investigation.

Norma Girolami, 70, was reported missing to police on September 20 from Elm Court, Highgate.

Police have urged her to come forward but after making enquiries are increasingly concerned she has been harmed, sparking a murder probe.

Her cousin Jack Girolami told the Standard that his Norma had last spoken to the family in July and had not responded to a text message in August which sounded alarm bells.

Mr Girolami, 66, said: “We are worried sick, this is totally out of character for Norma. We thought she may have gone to Italy where the family are from to spread her dad’s ashes but we don’t think that is the case now.

“We don’t know what to think we used to live round the corner to her so would see her all the time. When we moved our daughter who lives in London saw her fairly regularly and messaged her when she didn’t hear back. She was worried.

“She was very comfortably off, wealthy but not mega rich. She sold a house in Highgate and inherited her dad’s house in Enfield. She was also a bit gullible and was trusting in people which is a bit worrying.”

He said she regularly swam and met friends in the West End for afternoon’s out as well as being a regular at her Catholic Church in Highgate.

He added: “She was always very smart and loved a manicure. She was also a doting family person and churchgoer. She always sent cards on the birthdays of children in the family. She missed one recently though which also struck us as very strange.

“She used to holiday in Egypt and go back to Italy regularly. At one stage she said she had met someone in Egypt but I don’t know the details. I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward - she’s such a good person we are desperate for information.”

A man has been charged with the murder of a wealthy pensioner who disappeared in August.

Norma Girolami, 70, from Highgate, north London, vanished without saying anything to her loved ones, leaving food in the fridge and no signs of having planned to leave.

Serkan Kaygusuz, 41, of Islington, north London, is due to appear in custody at Highbury Corner magistrates’ court today. He has also been charged with two counts of theft, the Metropolitan Police said today.

Detectives fear that Girolami, who never married and had no children, was defrauded, held against her will and then murdered.

Her family said they had presumed she was in Italy scattering her father’s ashes but became concerned when she failed to send a card on the birthday of a cousin’s grandchild. Investigators searched multiple addresses and became increasingly concerned that she had come to harm.

Scotland Yard yesterday declared the case a murder inquiry and appealed for witnesses who saw anything unusual around her flat between mid-August and mid-September.

Still no news on where she may be. Could easily have been missing since July, from what is said. Only in August family failed to hear from her, which could imply she was disappeared long before.

A MAN has appeared in court charged with murder after cops launched a "no body" probe into missing 70-year-old Norma Girolami.

Serkan Kaygusuz, 41, is accused of killing Norma who vanished from her home in the affluent north London suburb of Highgate.

Kaygusuz has also been charged with two counts of theft.

He did not indicate pleas to any of the charges when he appeared in custody for a brief hearing at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court today.

Kaygusuz spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address when asked by the court clerk.

He appeared in a dark grey prison tracksuit and was not wearing a face mask. Two uniformed security guards flanked him on either side.

District Judge Daniel Sternberg remanded Kaygusuz in custody until his next court appearance at the Old Bailey for a bail hearing on Thursday.

Neither prosecutor Tom Gill or defence lawyer Will Durrands made any representations to the court.

A MISSING 70-year-old woman took out a £35,000 loan after she vanished and may have been conned in a romance scam, reports have claimed.

Police fear Norma Girolami was murdered after she disappeared from her home in the affluent north London suburb of Highgate last month.

Cops fear Norma - who lived alone, had no children and was not married - could have been targeted by a fraudster who conned her through a fake romance, The Times reports.

A loan of £35,000 was taken out by Norma after she went missing - with the funds withdrawn from her bank account not long after.

I wonder if/when we will hear about her being found. She has been missing now for 2 months, possibly a lot longer. We have someone charged, but as yet no confirmed motive, though money the most obvious one.

Oh no. Norma is such a beautiful and vivacious woman. It breaks my heart she was living her best life, and someone can do this to her.

Norma being Catholic I'll say a special prayer to Our Lady she will be found.

Geez you can't be 70 without opportunists after you. So sad.
