Newborn baby's body found in bag outside Notting Hill church

Police have urged the baby's mother to go to any hospital or police station to get help, saying she must be "very frightened".

Metropolitan Police are urgently appealing for the mother to come forward "for her own welfare".

The force said police officers and the ambulance service were called to the end of Talbot Road, on Powis Gardens, at 12.46pm on Tuesday but the baby was declared dead at the scene''

It comes after a couple were seen dumping a bag at the spot where the newborn was found, witnesses say.
A scaffolder who was working nearby said a middle-aged couple dropped the bag by a bin at around 10am.
He said: "The man was rustling the bag, like he was tying it. He walked ahead and she followed him.
"They were looking around the bin that is used for garden waste. People have also been dumping rubbish bags there.''

Fresh appeal in search for mum of newborn tot found dead by church yard

The body was discovered in and M&S carrier bag by a refuse collector – the image of which is now being circulated in a bid to help trace the parent.

“As shocking and tragic as this is, my priority remains the mother’s welfare and health. We are really worried about her wellbeing as she will have recently given birth. I know she will likely be feeling very frightened and going through an extremely difficult time.

“If you are the baby’s mother and see this today – I want to appeal directly to you to come forward to receive help and support. My priority is to help, and make sure you can receive medical assistance. You can do this at any time by attending any hospital, police station or by calling the emergency services.''

“I also want to appeal this morning to anyone who may have information that can assist us to make contact. In particular if you saw anyone in the area with the Marks and Spencer’s bag or saw anything that you felt was unusual.''

Woman arrested after body of baby found in bag in Notting Hill

The Met Police said the woman was arrested on suspicion of concealing a birth, neglect and infanticide. She remains in hospital currently.

'The Metropolitan Police said a woman, aged in her 30s, was safely located on Saturday and was then arrested on suspicion of concealing a birth, neglect and infanticide.

Officers said she was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and to ensure all necessary medical care was provided to her.'
