Dan O Donoghue's last update was nearly 30 minutes ago. Wonder if they have gone to lunch.

I have to go out briefly to walk dogs, but will add more updates in about an hour if appropriate.
I think he's permanently out to lunch lol

Thanks very much x

I know we're on to a different date now, so perhaps she was diagnosed between the two events. I wonder if the over-feeding could have caused it later.
I was wondering this. Not that I'm a doctor but I did wonder if the 1st incident, whoever may or may not have been responsible could have lead to some kind of physical damage to the digestive system due to the distention, or if the onset of the neurological injury was between the events that could be relevant. I believe there's a known link between neurodisability and GI problems and the father said in his statement that she'd projectile vomited several times since this.

This was yesterday's testimony -

cross-examination -

Gastro-oesophageal reflux can cause projectile vomiting, Mr Myers asks.
Dr Evans says it can, but that was not mentioned as a diagnosis in the Arrowe Park Hospital discharge letter.
It would not have caused the type of vomiting seen, Dr Evans tells the court.

evidence in chief -

The feeding chart for September 5 is shown to the court, which Dr Evans says shows no vomiting, and no evidence of gastro-oesophageal reflux.
He says gastro-oesophageal reflux does not happen out of nowhere.

She may well have been (wrongly) diagnosed with reflux purely as a result of that incident of projectile vomiting, that we now know to be from being deliberately overfed with milk or air. The medical staff didn't have that info, when she was transfered back to Arrowe Park , and hadn't witnessed the incident themselves, so it's possible thye noted it as being reflux.

Well, a guy needs to fortify himself.

Not everybody is strong enough to sit hours on end listening to harrowing evidence.

I wonder if correspondents use some kind of stenography in Court.

It must be very stressful to be able to catch everything that is being said.

I mean - EVERY detail/word counts!

Between coming back from Arrowe Park on 16th September and LL feeding her on the morning of 21st September, I think the defence would have raised any other episodes of projectile vomiting, and we know she was in a low dependency nursery that weekend. I don't think the threshold for charging would have been met if this was a regular occurrence or a feature of a diagnosed condition, at that date. JMO

Very true Dotta, I think I am just being harsh because I'd like to have better live updates but as you say it can't be easy. At least Jury are hearing everything even if we aren't and that's what is important

Senior nurse Caroline Bennion is now in the witness box.
12:46 PM · Dec 14, 2022

Ms Bennion is being cross examined by Mr Myers KC about her recollection of the events of 21 September. She is being taken back over the clinical notes from that day
2:16 PM · Dec 14, 2022

Ms Bennion says she does not have a recollection of 'who was doing what' at 15:30 that day (when Child G was cannulated)
2:20 PM · Dec 14, 2022

Ms Bennion agrees that as Child G was an extremely premature baby she 'did have the potential at any stage to deteriorate'

IF the doctor had switched it off, the next nurse to arrive should have or would have turned it back on. LL apparently did not do so when she entered the room. I think that's strange. But by itself, not indicative either way.
Yes, it is strange. For such a senior nurse. I can imagine her roundly telling off a more junior nurse if they were responsible.

Apparently, there was no alarm for LL to answer if the screen was off. So why would she go check on the baby in that room if there was no alarm to warn her and a screen to prevent her from seeing anything ?
Exactly. Why would she do that? The kindest explanations would be that she is a busybody, or didn't trust anyone else to do their job properly. Not very likeable traits. And of course the other option we are all aware of.

I noticed KC is being used with the name of Mr M for Defence.
King's Council
I understand it must be the highest rank for a lawyer, no?
It is interesting for me as a foreigner.
I think Mr J for Prosecution also has this title.
I guess for such a complex case only the best of the best have been chosen.

Eirian Powell, who was the neonatal manager at the Countess of Chester in 2015, is now giving evidence. She is being asked about the events of 21 September. She tells the court she was due to give Child G her immunisations that day
2:38 PM · Dec 14, 2022

She says that there was 'some instability' with Child G's temperature and was told she 'wasn’t well enough at that time', so the immunisations were withheld
2:40 PM · Dec 14, 2022

Other than her immunisations, Ms Powell said she cannot remember any other issues reported to her with Child G

I'm not sure what the hierarchy is, but as a British person, it's still weird for me to see KC instead of QC, following Queen Elizabeth II's death.

I suppose it would be fairly easy to notice if a baby was detached from a monitor? I mean, would there be a blank screen at the side of the cot?

What is the use of expensive equipment if it is not used?

Somebody switched it off and nobody thought of switching it on.

Oh well...
