A man in his 40s is helping police with their inquiries following an appeal to find a missing woman.

Police were called amid concern for the safety of Patricia Holland, 83, from Lowestoft Road, who was last seen near her home on Saturday evening (July 24) around 9.20pm.

Subsequently, a man in his 40s is helping police with their inquiries, a spokesman said.

A seal remains in place at the property and detectives say the investigation relates to an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the local community.

Concerns were reported to police at around 12pm on Sunday.

She is described as being of a slight build, around 5ft 7ins but walks slightly bent over so may appear shorter, with a pale complexion and grey shoulder length hair. She has mobility problems and usually walks with a walking frame.

One couple reported a police presence at around 10pm when officers with torches appeared to be trying to raise the occupants.

Later residents told of being woken at 4.30am on Monday by officers asking to search residential gardens.

A bin at the end of the footbridge linking Victoria Road with Lowestoft Road had also been sealed off as part of the search.

One woman described Mrs Holland, who she understood was a great grandmother, as "a lovely little old lady" and "quite vibrant."

Woah!

Man in his 40s... do you think it could be the man in his 40s who was initially arrested in the Linda Hood case?

So this is a definite murder inquiry, as yet with no body.

Patricia Holland, known as Pat to her friends and family, went missing from Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk on Saturday (July 24) at around 9.20pm.

Pat, 83, was reported missing by her family the following day around 12.15pm after they couldn't get through to her.

Her home in Lowestoft Road remains under a police cordon this morning (July 27).

This lunchtime Norfolk Constabulary announced a man had been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Currently, no body has been found and emergency services, including the coastguard and Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, have been involved in searching the areas near to Pat’s home.

I wonder what the relationship between this man and Patricia is, or if there is any. It seems he's been involved since pretty much the start based on the comments about helping the inquiry which made me think perhaps a relative, son? Although if so she'd have been fairly old relatively when she had him.

Looks like it may be the lodger...

Local residents claimed that police were called to a disturbance at her home on Saturday after her lodger allegedly angrily accused her of burning his spaghetti.

Mrs Holland is said to have taken temporary refuge in a neighbour's house and only returned home later in the evening after police got her lodger to leave.

Detectives revealed today that a man in his 40s was being questioned having been arrested on suspicion of her murder, even though her body has not been found.

Neighbours said that Mrs Holland, a widowed mother-of-four, had taken in the homeless man because she felt sorry for him and wanted to keep him off the streets.

But they revealed that police were regularly called to bust-ups between the pair at her detached house. Friends are said to have urged Mrs Holland to throw out her lodger, but she refused and did not want police to take any action against him.

She was last seen near her home at 9.20pm on Saturday and was reported missing by her relatives at 12.15pm on Sunday after they were unable to contact her and 'became concerned about her whereabouts'.

Forensic officers were today hunting for evidence inside her house while police teams searched undergrowth near her home.

If it turns out to be true, it's disgusting really. Sounds like all she has done is tried to help him and given him a chance others could only dream of, something she didn't need to do and clearly indicates the type of person she was. He's done the bulk of the homeless population no favours.

Sounds like a feisty, stubborn lady who, like you say, @infinit, just wanted to help someone less fortunate, who, by the sounds of it, was a less than desirable character. If only she had listened to others. Not surprising now we know this that they apprehended the suspect so quickly - assuming of course it is one and same, which seems highly likely.

Presumably he was arrested on witness reports of incidents earlier in day, but obviously no further evidence.

Is it likely to presume she is still alive? Until she either is, or a body is found. I guess police have no more to go on.

I don't know if they'd launch a murder investigation purely on that? She has been missing 4 days, it's not impossible someone could be alive even with no activity on cards or sightings etc.

My gut sadly thinks they've found evidence in the house that suggests she's no longer alive. Even if it's something as simple as he's pawned jewelry of hers or something.

Wasn't the house cordoned off?

Would indicate evidence of some kind contained within which sadly appears to be a murder.

I meant, why they were alerted to the person on hearing of the earlier altercation, plus of course we don't know what the person said or how they appeared to police that might have led to suspicion, coupled with the fact of PH not being found. But to hold longer... obviously they had no more evidence at that stage, hence bail release.

Police are appealing directly to the local community in Gorleston and wider Great Yarmouth area for information that could lead to locating Pat Holland as there are increasing concerns for her welfare.

A substantial team of detectives and uniformed officers are carrying out house to house enquiries in the area and are recovering and reviewing CCTV as well as speaking to members of the public in an attempt to help locate Pat.

Extensive searches are taking place with specialist search officers, including Norfolk Lowland Search and Rescue. The search area will be extended to around 1.5km around the address and to open spaces, woodland areas and allotments.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Chris Burgess, said: "If you live in the area of Lowestoft Rd and the surrounding area please be vigilant in your gardens and outbuildings, has anything been left in your garden that is unusual and may assist police?

"We are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances that led to Pat’s disappearance and are considering all options, however we are becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare. We appeal to the public to come forward if they saw Pat on the day she went missing or have any information or footage they may have help us to find her.

"We are still investigating the circumstances around her disappearance but believe this to be an isolated incident.”

A police seal remains at the address while forensic examinations are carried out.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been released on police bail (Tuesday 27 July 2021) while enquiries continue.
