Shortly after 10.30pm on Tuesday 12 May a member of the public reported suspicions to police about a vehicle due to its manner of driving.

It had been travelling on the A4136 near Coleford and officers in the local area were advised.

The vehicle was located by police a short while later and two people were spoken to.

Two suitcases were found to contain human remains and two people, a woman aged in her 20s from Birmingham and a man aged in his 30s from Wolverhampton, were subsequently arrested.

They remain in police custody following a 36-hour extension granted by magistrates at around midday today, Thursday 14 May.

A vehicle was also seized.

Investigating officers believe there is one victim, a woman, and forensic examinations are ongoing to confirm her identity.

Senior Investigating Officer DCI John Turner said: "The nature of this incident is distressing and we're working around the clock to fully understand what has happened.

"Someone's life has been lost and our priority is to identify the victim and get answers for her family.

"Searches have taken place in the surrounding area for evidence gathering and contrary to media reports no remains have been found as part of these searches.

"Our Major Crime Investigation Team is working in collaboration with the West Midlands Police homicide team to carry out further enquiries."

Couple who reported man and woman tell of their horror after police found human TORSO in suitcase | Daily Mail Online

A 'shaken' couple who reported a man and woman acting suspiciously behind their former sawmill in the Forest of Dean have told of their horror after police swooped and found a human torso in a suitcase.

The grisly find was made in Gloucestershire late on Tuesday night and investigating officers believe there is one female victim. Detectives have been given an extra 36 hours to question a man in his 30s from Wolverhampton and a woman in her 20s from Birmingham on suspicion of murder.

Gemma and David Greenway, who live on the outskirts of Coleford, said they had seen the man entering a lorry trailer yard near their home. Mrs Greenway, 37, who runs a grooming salon and breeds dogs with her husband, said she was ‘shaken’ by the horrific find.

‘I’m just so glad that David spotted him acting suspiciously and reported it,’ she told a local Facebook site.

I wonder if they still would have reported them if Covid wasn’t a thing right now?

Can't beat a "human torso in trunk or suitcase in Great Britain" story. There is a history of torso doings.

I wonder if they still would have reported them if Covid wasn’t a thing right now?

I had wondered if it was a case of police checking it out in case it was people driving across the border (due to the Covid guideline of not taking unnecessary travel over the borders).

But it sounds from ATWFD's post that the couple were acting suspiciously in other ways, and maybe the people who called police thought they were burglars who were casing the joint?

I'm so glad they caught these people in the act! Imagine if they'd managed to do the drop and drive away!

Woman charged with murder following discovery of human remains in 2 suitcases
''A woman has been charged with murder after human remains were discovered in two suitcases.

Gareeca Gordon, 27, from Birmingham is accused of the murder of a woman on or before May 12.''

According to reports, alleged accomplice, Mahesh Sorathiya, 38, from Wolverhampton has been charged with assisting an offender.

The pair have been refused bail and are due to appear at Cheltenham magistrates court tomorrow.

Police are awaiting results of DNA tests to establish the identity of the victim.''

Woman whose body was found stuffed in two suitcases 'cut in HALF with circular saw at bloodbath house' and body burned
''Last night six detectives made door to door enquiries at the address.

Police have also searched a second property in the Midlands.
A source close to the investigation said: “Officers attended a nd they were horrified to find the place looking like an abattoir.

“It was like a bloodbath, they found a circular saw and the woman had been cut up the middle.

“They split her legs and went straight up the torso and then put both halves in two suitcases.”

This is absolutely horrific!

Given GG has been charged with the murder and it's generally thought women commit crimes of passion, therefore I would presume the victim is the partner of MS - imo

Beyond horrific. Like something from a horror movie. How depraved do you have to be to do something like that?

Oh my god, what a strange way of cutting someone up (not that I'm speaking from personal experience!)

No sign of a Gareeca being born in the UK or on any electoral roll. Only mention I can find is someone of that name playing for a football team.

Think I have found the man's FB and he is/was married to a lady whose name begins with R. I wonder if she is the victim.

Woman, 27, is charged with murder and a 38-year-old man with assisting an offender | Daily Mail Online
''A huge area of countryside remains cordoned off, though no other body parts have been found in the woodland as originally feared. Sniffer dogs were also utilised by officers today, with trained spaniels seen searching through the area this afternoon.

A resident living near the quarry today told how a strange burning smell hung around in the air just before the two people were arrested.''
he man said: 'It was an unusual smell of burning, it definitely wasn't a bonfire because I burn a lot of wood on my property and it was nothing like it.

'I noticed it about 9.30pm on Tuesday night. It was actually strong enough for me to smell inside the house. I actually came outside to see what it was. I've never smelt anything similar around here.

'The wind usually blows from the South West but on Tuesday it was coming from the North East direction - the area near to the quarry where the police are now. I couldn't see anything, no fire or smoke, it was just the smell.

'What it was, I can't tell you but it was strange.'

Police are also searching a container yard, near to the Regalrouge Dogue de Bordeaux grooming parlour.''

Fred and Rose West were from the Forest of Dean.

Odd that they drove so far with the body (50+ miles) during lockdown. Why would you risk being stopped with a body in the car? There's no valid excuse for going anywhere at that time of night right now.

Fred and Rose West were from the Forest of Dean.

Funnily enough, when I looked on a map, Much Marcle instantly jumped out at me!

This is the business owned by the Greenways, the couple who reported suspicious activity to the police. I believe some of the dogs they breed have been to Crufts so they'd be hyper alert to vehicles driving into the container area behind their house/business, they'd be worried about the dogs getting stolen. And the lockdown means they probably felt more comfortable about calling police to report it, knowing that people shouldn't be driving around anyway.

(((Shudder)))
Gordon Burn's great Happy As Murderers well-documents their upbringings there and surrounding. One of the great chillers of true crime lit.

there goes my dinner.
But, first report claims couple was walking down the road carrying the suitcase. So, were they walking down the road or driving in a car?

I wonder if they were walking to and from the car into the wooded area maybe?

I think perhaps they’d driven into the area behind the dog place, which prompted the owners to call the cops. Minutes later the police found them walking nearby. I wonder where the burning came from?

Maybe one of them knew the container yard was there, it’s pretty well hidden and not obvious from the road.

Makes sense. I don't get the burning connection either if the body was divided between two suitcases.

I've lived a long life and have been around the block a few times; just when I think I've heard and seen it all.......I realize I haven't
