UK - Prince Andrew accused of underage sexual relationship, 1999-2002 *settled* #2

So neither got what they wanted? I get the feeling that the Firm shut this trial down by pressuring PA to settle. You agree?

Yes I honestly do. Phillips memorial thing is next month and for one thing this makes it easier for him to attend. Its also been said Charles demanded he settled to get it out of the way which I can believe. I suppose the other thing about the memorial this would have maybe put a stain over it all which wouldnt been fair on their father. It also means the media storm should be over somewhat before the Celebrations start and it also means they dont have to worry about the deposition and they also dont have to worry about what will be said in court or even the verdict. Hes not even confessed to doing anything wrong so...I dont believe he will ever be accepted back in the royal fold so to speak but over all his family will likely be pleased with the ending and I imagine he is really. Oh and he apparently has saved a few million also. Not sure what he will do with the rest of his life but as he never did seem to do much apart from driving around in his car in Windsor not sure nothing will change. I actually wonder what Boies thinks now he wont get all the attention from holding this case but...it is what it is

What do you mean by saying this about Mr Boies?
He is a highly respected lawyer. He always commands a lot of attention.
He does his job fighting for his client.

Prince Andrew has settled a civil sexual assault case brought against him in the US by Virginia Giuffre. VG had been suing PA, claiming he sexually assaulted her on three occasions when she was 17, allegations he has repeatedly denied.

A letter filed to the US district court on Tuesday said they had reached an out-of-court settlement. It said PA - who makes no admission of liability - would pay an undisclosed sum to VG.

In a letter to Judge Kaplan, VG’s lawyer wrote jointly with PA’s lawyers to say the pair had reached "a settlement in principle". A statement included with the letter read: "The parties will file a stipulated dismissal upon Ms Giuffre's receipt of the settlement (the sum of which is not being disclosed)."

It said PA would make a "substantial donation to Ms Giuffre's charity in support of victims' rights".

The statement added that PA had "never intended to malign Ms Giuffre's character" and he recognised she had "suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks". He also pledged to "demonstrate his regret for his association" with JE by supporting the "fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims". He also commended the "bravery of Ms Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others".

PA’s lawyers had previously said he was ready to go before a jury, with a trial expected later this year. His representatives said he had no comment beyond what was said in the document filed to the court.

Unsurprisingly, Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the settlement. While the amount of the financial settlement hasn’t been disclosed, reports have speculated that it could run into millions of pounds.

Questions are now being asked as to how he will fund the settlement.

Believe me, this issue is a ticking bomb.
Im afraid, it might cause even greater scandal.
The Queen should keep away from it - as far as possible.
MOO.

Sadly, I agree. There is much more that could be said about this. But it would stray off topic.

Well, In a way I appreciate PA's admission of sorts. #@$%!@:!!! Mighty big of him...

Legal age people, 18! Nothing more or less.

Boies’ representation of Weinstein and Theranos and alleged related dirty tricks have diminished his reputation greatly.

Serious intimidation tactics, maybe with use of Black Cube, see Ronan Farrow’s book and articles. Also intimidation against Theranos employees reported in John Carreyrou’s book, Bad Blood.

IMO they both come off shockingly badly with this settlement.

IMO most people won't want to have anything to do with either of them.

According to this article although she has agreed to remain quiet until after the Jubilee she can speak about it afterwards and even write a book about it which is odd as you would think the money would be to stop it all continuing in the media Prince Andrew reaches 'settlement in principle' with Virginia Giuffre | Daily Mail Online

Andrew deal will keep Virginia Giuffre quiet during Queen’s Platinum Jubilee | News | The Times

what the?!
Is it just this Mitchell Epner talking s*&#?

I knew someone who was an abuser of women and a child and contributed monthly to a charity for battered women and children very publicly.

This does not seem like something where PAs true regret for his actions is expressed. It's just a payout to keep quiet a bit longer.

The right thing to do would be wait until the Jubilee celebration is over and come clean, without the whole "I couldn't sweat at the time" weirdness. I think people would appreciate that more than any donations to charity.

I do feel bad for Fergie and PA's kids being swept up in all this.

I agree tbh...the motive was meant to be...to get a day in court and force to him to admit to what he had allegedly done and we were repeately told it wasnt about money...and yet,,,a settlement was accepted with no day in court and he definetly didnt admit what he was alleged to have done and what I dont understand is that after receiving this settlement she will supposedly be writing a book about it all...it never ends. It hasnt really vindicated anyone.

I saw it on this thread once that Boies is a brilliant lawyer. I dont believe he is anyone who should ever be allowed around a sexual abuse victim considering how he treated the victims of Weinstein.

So...
A book, a film, a Netflix documentary...

What a revolting mess, none of them have come out of this looking great. And a dodgy lawyer to boot.

Meanwhile, 82 trafficking and sexual exploitation victims, including children, have been rescued in Los Angeles this week. I wonder if they’ll get a payout too.
