<modsnip - quoted post was removed (SM rumour)>
I'm reading this article as saying the sighting of the person in the yellow coat was many hours later. I really can't see how it could have been her although obviously they have to follow up every possible lead.

Earlier isn't it? or do they mean the next day?

The pair - whose 'sighting' was shared by Ms Booth's mother - say they may have spotted her that day - hitchhiking in a yellow coat.

They have claimed they saw the missing woman, who was in her running gear, 'between 12.30 and 1.15' walking towards Crewe as they passed in their car.

<modsnip - quoted post was social media rumour>

Or is the lady above a different witness?

Under the police appeal, two friends have claimed they may have spotted Rachel - described as being 5ft 9in tall, of a slim build and with blonde hair - attempting to hitchhike hours after her last sighting.

They said: 'It does look like the same lady that was hitching a lift except the lady we seen [sic] obviously had the yellow jacket/cardigan on.'

The potential witness said this was around the Church Minshull area - some eight miles from the petrol station - between 12.30pm and 1.15pm on Saturday, hours after her last official sighting.

A separate witness also claimed they may have seen her passing a farm shop at Minshull and 'walking towards Crewe'.
It’s not beyond impossible that the yellow jacket was left somewhere to collect in readiness for hitchhiking.

Is one more likely to pick someone up who is clearly visible and wants to be noticed? Or someone who is in all black looking out of place with wine and milk?

I’m a bit confused on the witnesses. How many are there?

It's extremely unclear reporting IMO

"Under the police appeal, two friends have claimed they may have spotted Rachel - described as being 5ft 9in tall, of a slim build and with blonde hair - attempting to hitchhike hours after her last sighting" BBM from the Mail article

On Monday, two underwater search units were deployed to Delamere Lake holiday park, next to Wild Shore Delamere water park, which is less than two miles from the petrol station.

“I spoke to my colleague who had served her on Saturday morning.

“She bought milk and wine and jogged from 45 minutes away.

“But it didn't seem weird, she didn't seem disturbed or flustered.”

She was wearing black leggings, a black vest and trainers at the time she vanished, with a phone visible on her outer thigh, suggesting she was out on a run.

*"Possible sightings by two people in cars.

"[They] believe to have seen Rachel hitchhiking (attempting) wearing a yellow coat walking in Minshull towards Crewe."

They claimed a woman matching Rachel's description was seen between 12:30pm and 1:15pm on Sunday.

*She was wearing a yellow jacket or cardigan instead of gym gear, which was earlier reported

Police are searching near a popular beauty spot tonight after a woman vanished after going out on a run

Rachel was last seen by family members in the Barnton area of Northwich, where she lives, on Saturday - but that wasn't the most recent siting of her.

Rachel was recorded five miles away at around 3.50am on Saturday at the Sandiway garage on the A556, where she bought milk and wine following a 45-minute run

My take isshe was probably not well and had been drinking all night. Ran out, and that was the nearest place open. She ran and or walked there, bought the milk to normalise the transaction, and then headed to the lake. Downed it and decided that was her lot. The police have evidently homed in on this fast and gone go the lake where you'd guess her phone signal showed. None of this looks like normal activity and single women don't run alone in all black clothing at that time of the morning.

Maybe this is an age thing but several posts have now mentioned "normalising the transaction" , what exactly does that mean, when did people start having to buy random items they don't need if they want to buy a bottle of wine?

I'm intrigued by this concept and the thinking behind it, are 24 hour shops staffed by morality police now? To whom are they normalising it?

If she had been drinking all night, there is no way she could have run approx 6.5 miles (and imo not walked it either). I don't know about Rachel, but most of my exercise kit is black...........

I wonder if she threw her phone in the lake? As that must be where the last ping came from, hence the police diving and searching?

Agreed, sadly. If she has trackers set up, it’ll lead the police to where she is.

There’s nothing normal about a mum going on a run like this, in all black, at that time.

That place is like six miles from her home. I am pretty sure there were open shops closer to her home.

"They have requested privacy at this time."

Body found, believed to be her.

Whilst this will be devastating news for her family and friends I am relieved a body has been found quickly (I feel this had the potential to turn into a Nicola Bulley media storm if it went on for days longer - which is not helpful for anybody)

My thoughts go out to her family.

From the Manchester Evening News Feed posted by Cinister above #127

"Following extensive appeals and searches in the area, officers have now sadly recovered a body in a lake in Oakmere.

"Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, it is believed to be that of Rachel. Her family have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers."

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner, the spokesman added.

So very sad. Condolences to Rachel's family and friends.

I believe they are normalising it to themselves. My sister is an alcoholic and she usually buys something she neither wants or needs along with the drink. I think it somehow justifies to herself the reason for the trip to the shop.

This is just my experience, I am no way implying that Rachel has an issue with alcohol. I hope this has a happy ending for all concerned.

** i was writing this as the breaking news was being posted. I am so very saddened to read the updates and send love and strength to all who new Rachel **
