If it meant not being accused of helping cover up a murder and spending 5 months in jail ... yes! Here's my pass code PLEASE be respectful that my girl has sent me cheeky pics ...

I think that we have to remember that not everyone has the same attitude towards police. Many people are extremely untrusting of them. I was always brought up to respect and appreciate the police, but I used to work in a cafe and there were members of staff who would make efforts to avoid serving police officers if they came in, because they had such a dislike for them.

Court heard DD deleted messages between him and his brother between February 21 to 25. DD says his phone had insufficient memory so deleted.

Donovan says he refused to give police his phone PIN because it contained naked photos of his girlfriend

Doesn't say it was only his texts though?
Between him and his brother and only dates between as above.

IIRC the police originally searched DD's mum's car as well? Perhaps they weren't sure initially whether that car had been used or JI's car or the work van.

It sounds to me that what probably happened is that KD called DD after getting the call from NM, saying he might need his help moving some stuff, with the plan that he would take his mum's car. He probably told him about the 5 grand, as he also told JI. DD stays up waiting to hear if he's needed and falls asleep on the sofa. In the meantime KD has enlisted JI's help instead and the two of them do the job.

When the group get to KD's house, DD is there, possibly arguing with JP. This has disappeared from JI's story because he knows it would land DD in it. Luckily for him, the prosecutor has decided it would be more advantageous to claim the pair arguing were NM and SH. Later, DD is smart enough to delete any texts relating to that night, unlike JP, who has to plead guilty...

That to me is the most likely scenario, and I'm not at all sure I believe DD that he was at home in bed sleeping with his earphones in so that he didn't hear anything (how convenient!). However they clearly don't have enough to find him guilty and in fact not even to charge him - even though he may well have been as involved as JP...

But was it just texts between him and his brother, were other texts deleted from that time period? It doesnt say , as theyre only interested in texts to his brother. Why the feb 21st date too I wonder? That was well before NM contacted KD

ETA more info on texts

Police analysing a phone belonging to one of the defendants around the time of Becky's murder found 113 missing messages.Forensic intelligence analyst Shaun Groves told the court that, between February 1 and March 2 call data showed a total of 261 messages had been sent from Donovan Demetrius' phone.
But, a forensic download only recovered 148 of them, of which six were drafts.
Mr Groves also told the court that between February 21 to 25 call data showed 33 text messages had been sent, but none were recovered.

Wonder if texts were asking his brother about what was in the shed? Even though, at that point, he was unaware of what they were, but was concerned as to what was happening around him, and involving his brother. Surely someone, anyone, at that point must have questioned what was going on when a massive missing persons enquiry was going on around them?

I wouldn't have connected bags and packages with a missing persons enquiry. A roll of carpet or something like that - possibly. I doubt any one expected her to turn up in bits.

I'm just a little confused...

Does anyone know if the prosecution was able to get a search warrant to see DD's phone eventually? Otherwise, how did they know that the text messages were deleted? Were other texts deleted? Did DD delete the pictures of his girlfriend, as well?

ETA: I guess I'm just trying to figure out the timing. DD gets questioned. He is asked to give up his phone. He refuses to give the PIN. Is it then that the police take his phone and hack into it only then seeing that the texts between KD and DD were deleted? And, then, does DD's excuse about raunchy photos of his girlfriend actually turn out to be true?

DD: "I have to start my life from scratch. I might not get to see my brother again for quite some time."

DD's case has concluded.

BIB Wondering how to interpret that in light of how "horrified" he is at his brother putting himself in this position and in ref to stating he hasn't spoken to his twin bro for 7 months.

Presume it does NOT mean he has no intention to visit his brother in prison?

I've just added a link with more info

Not if he's in prison himself, can't work out form that if he's expecting a prison sentence himself or not

The only bit I'd differ on is that the arguing could just be an embellishment by JI of the "man being thrown out by the woman" story or a misinterpretation of what JI said by his equally drunk friend

Donovan Demetrius is now being examined by prosecution lawyer William Mousley QC.

Demetrius says he was upstairs with his headphones in on the night of February 24 - when brother Karl, Nathan Matthews and allegedly James Ireland were moving bags and suitcases containing Becky’s body into the garden shed.

Mr Mousley asks: “What was Karl up to that night?”.

He replies: “I couldn’t tell you. I was in my bed sleeping. I had headphones in.”

The court is told Donovan Demetrius deleted a number of text messages between him and brother, Karl, sent between February 21 and 25.

Donovan also refused to give the passcode of his phone to police after he was initially arrested.

The defendant claims he had deleted the messages because his phone was low on memory and refused to give the passcode because the phone contained indecent pictures and video of his girlfriend.

He said: “If someone came along and took your phone would you let people see pictures of your naked girlfriend on there? I don’t think so.”

I'd like to believe DD's account. I mean, please, someone in all of this mess HAS to have a conscience! My hinky meter has gone off though due to two things..

1) He told a workmate that he fell asleep on the couch when his testimony is that he fell asleep upstairs in bed.

2) He deleted specific text messages and says it was to gain more memory.

When I need more memory on my phone, I delete unnecessary (little threads of no importance) texts and photos first. When I delete texts, I delete entire threads, not just texts between certain dates. DD's actions just don't ring true for me.

Has NM or JI mentioned DD helping?

Edit: if DD didn't help, how can he be assisting the offender? This wasn't his home either. I will be shocked if he is found guilty.

He may well be. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the "helpers" get suspended sentences if found guilty. I don't think it sounds like any of them thought it was a body.

Not to my recollection.

And, no one is mentioning JP's role. Why would she have pled guilty to Assiting the Offender? Because it was shown she had knowledge of the event through her text messages?

For Point 1
Perhaps, DD is on the sofa, waiting for KD to update him. DD falls asleep as it is getting late. Then KD texts him, which wakes him up. KD says, it's all sorted. DD then goes upstairs to bed.

Donovan Demetrius talked of 'dodgy dealings'
Employees at the store Donovan Demetrius worked at said in the week leading up to his arrest he was "unusually quiet" and spoke of "dodgy dealings" with his brother.

Demetrius was a lead sales manager at Home Bargains, in Bedminster, where he had worked for nine months.

But in the week leading up to the arrest of Matthews and Hoare for murder, on March 2, colleagues say the usually "bubbly" employee had become "quiet, reserved and withdrawn from conversation.

Colleague Danielle Wood, who worked with Demetrius during the week of February 24, said she had heard a conversation where he mentioned "dodgy dealings".
During that week he was a lot quieter, he kept himself to himself, he was not his bubbly self.

– DANIELLE WOOD
A conversation came up saying how tired he looked and he said he had been up all night waiting for his brother, to go and do some dodgy dealings.

He said he was waiting up for his brother but his brother had come back and said he had already done it and they were going to get a cut of the money but he didn't know how much.

– DANIELLE WOOD
His manager, Benjamin Fairley described Demetrius as a "real asset to the company" who had been improving and improving since starting the job.

But said the week leading up to his arrest he had turned up to work looking visibly tired.
He did look tired, as his manager I asked his whether he had been out. He replied to me 'My brother asked for my help with something, he ended up not needing me, I fell asleep on the sofa, it was a late night.

– BENJAMIN FAIRLEY

Yeah, I'd agree that there are quite a few possible explanations for the man and woman arguing part. If it happened at all, it being JP and DD seems to fit best, in that JI supposedly told his mate he went in to have a smoke and saw a man and woman arguing, and we know he had a smoke at DD's house. Plus it sounds like JP and DD were getting on badly. But as you say there are other possibilities - it was mostly just an inference on my part as it pleasingly ties up the loose ends!

She's said she only became suspicious the night before they were arrested. Her sister has said on social media that JP was told NM had been thrown out by his girlfriend and the stuff was his belongings. We've also heard in court how JP's sister offered to go look what it was in the packages when JP became suspcious.
