[h=3]'Becky bravely fought back'[/h]Matthews’ defence has told how Becky “bravely fought back” against the kidnap plot.
The plan had gone “horribly wrong,” Bristol Crown Court was told.
But Adam Vaitilingam QC insisted that Matthews had no intention of killing her.

AV says jury may want to agree with prosecution but"Logic and common sense are not on their side".They submit it was manslaughter not murder

Av: Most of us have a voice of calm which stops us doing something stupid, not obvious that NM has this mechanism

Perhaps, he couldn't hear it bc SH kept whispering in his other ear...

I'd use these words to describe NM and SH's accounts of what happened!!

What are you reckoning on the jury's take on that Defence of NM

Answers on a postcard! :)

IMO - weak and unconvincing

A reminder that NM has denied murder and conspiracy to kidnap.SH has denied all of the charges

Not an accidental death, as plan was unlawful, but unintended'

Am I getting confused here , I thought NM was saying he didnt mean to kill her, so surely that is accidental ? ( in his black and white world of course ! )

3.did she lie to police about what she knew?
4.Did she help NM dismember and hide BW body?

Siobhan Robbins ‏@SiobhanRobbins 1m1 minute ago
2.if there was a kidnap did she participate with a murderous intent?

Siobhan Robbins ‏@SiobhanRobbins 1m1 minute ago
Says key questions in SH case:
1.Did she agree to kidnap Bw& did she intend to play some part?

NM says the time had come to tell the truth.AV says if he wanted to make up an excuse why not something that painted him in a better light?

Erm, maybe what he made up did paint him in a better light than what actually happened?

5.Was she in possess on stun guns?
Did NM/SH act jointly with the same purpose?

[h=3]Matthews 'treated Watts with lack of compassion - but he's NOT a murderer'[/h]The stepbrother of Becky Watts treated her body with “a lack of compassion and humanity” but that does not make him guilty of murder, his barrister told the jury.

Adam Vaitilingam said: “A man who has shown himself to be capable of killing a 16-year-old and then treating her body with such a lack of compassion and humanity... I do not ask for sympathy for Nathan Matthews. He deserves none.
“I ask that you approach his case in the same fair way you would approach any defendant charged with any crime. His right to a fair trial from an independent jury hasn’t disappeared because of what he has done.”

Yes it's not just teens,it's 16 year old schoolgirls although if they get too specific NM's laweyer could argue that it also said blonde school girls and Becky wasn't blonde.

  • #979
Well my answer to each of them questions is YES absolutely on every account....

So patronising questioning the jury.

The obvious inference is that 16 year olds are "legal".

ETA To clarify for non-UK posters: The age of consent in the UK is 16.
