This morning before the verdicts when I was thinking - what would satisfy as a sentence for NM, in absence of whole life tariff , I thought 30 years but I couldn't remember exactly NM's age, so was thinking 30 years - ooh no, he needs to appreciate he is NOT coming out in his 50's so, whatever takes him to his sixth decade.

Anyway , it's coincidental that the Judge has actually mentioned age 61!
Why 33 years, why not 32, 31 ............anyone got any speculation on that? Do you think this was significant for the judge

(Appreciate that Judge also said, he'll prob never get out, which is what the UK&Eire Admin court attendee posted earlier in the week, he'll end up being diag as psychopathic, be transf to Broadmoor etc. )

PS. No mental health diagnosis again in the sentence mitigation huh!

Yes, they are a whole range of things including 'hypocritical", vengeful, misinformed, ranting, as someone else said - illiterate, but there's a whole gamut of opinion on there alongside that rich dollop of extreme views.

This will be controversial but I'll say it anyway : seeing them as I scroll down, they don't make me feel superior as I appreciate the subtler distinctions between me CWeaver saying" I want 30+ years for NM "and me posting this morning "Ah diddums NM, I have no sympathy for you as you rock in your chair. " .........therefore as AFAIconcerned I thus share similarities with them.

Oh, I didn't mean that I feel superior to them at all, sorry if it came off that way. I honestly haven't read the posts as I don't have FB so haven't actually seen the comments, have just seen what was reiterated here (something about wanting to drive a stiletto heel through NM's head...!) and I just think those kind of comments are hypocritical, unnecessary, and disrespectful to Becky. I understand people feeling intense anger towards the two, of course, and I don't think anyone should have to hold back on that, but those kind of comments about killing/torturing the two doesn't sit right with me. Different strokes etc, didn't mean to imply that I think I'm better than them for not saying those kind of things, just that I genuinely don't understand their logic.

IMO there is a big difference between making an 'ah diddums' sarcastic/scathing comment like yours and one that talks about wanting to drive a stiletto heel through someone's head, haha.

Becky's mum's (TW) comment about having a bandage around her little wrist when they saw her to cover the marks from the dismemberment has gotten to me so much...so horrific and sad

It's so, so sad I think it's one of those things that I'm going to always remember about this case. So heartbreaking.

And it just makes me so sick, that not only did they take her life in such a horrific way but they also disrespected and demeaned her body after death, too. I don't know how to explain it properly, but to dismember someone and treat them like nothing more than a piece of meat shows such disrespect and hatred. They just wanted to strip her of any kind of dignity, even after they'd taken her life.

I didn't see anything like that. He did make a general comment about it being inhumane to take a newborn baby away from its mother, so maybe somebody read too much into it.

Does anyone know what reasons there could be for deferring sentance on KD & JP until next year? Also, I assume they continue to be bailed until then.

There are set tariffs that the judge has to follow, so no, he can't just choose a number he likes

Well, if it is February for their sentencing, KD will have done a year by then. So if he gets 2 years, he is automatically free.
Which means JP can begin her sentence and someone at home to look after their child/children ?
Which says to me, a custodial sentence is being planned ?
Otherwise, why not just give JP a suspended sentence today ?

Do you know which band/tariff the 33 relates to? ie. the significance ?

ETA - LOL , no need to answer that Cherwell, another poster has just posted something constructive which informs the following. My point was about the "uplift", that nudged him over to age 61 :

"We said yesterday that Mr Matthews would probably have a 30 year starting point, which is what, in fact, the Judge took. There was some speculation that he would get a whole life tariff, but the Judge gave good reasons why this should not be.

Given the circumstances of the case, it is hard to argue with the uplift imposed, and whilst Mr Matthews will probably appeal (nothing to lose really), we doubt that he will get far."

I know, I backpacked round Europe in the 90s and felt safer there than in UK cities, as we only had the IRA terrorist threat back then.
