Skibaboo
Sorry, still very new to this posting, didn't mean to quote myself arghhh

And I noticed you'd already edited your post with the info by the time I had written mine. Does anyone know how to remove a post altogether please? No point my post being on when it's not really necessary, thanks :)

The number of men is likely to be much higher because men are far less likely to report abuse because of these attitudes that only women can be victims, and women can only be victims.
Yup, I think we all know of couples where the man is completely subservient to the woman. A close friend's other half is a horrible piece of work, she completely controls him. Abuse is not necessarily physical.

snip

As Maine has one of this nation's highest divorce rates, apparently they're plummeting out of fishing boats at a goodly clip.
Odd you should say that as the only person that lives near me that originally came from Maine got divorced a while back.

there is another name in there, I will not post it , but the age is right

If it's the same name I've read, how could he be in custody if he's giving a quote to the Sun?

Ah, that's not a paper I have any connection with and never would, so hadn't seen that

Oops I stand corrected, see what you mean now ...

Hmm doesn't seem as cut and dry as just "finding something in your shed". Police have to show a lot of evidence to get the paperwork for the extension approved

Apologies for asking again if it's been answered - has the 5th person been named or alluded to yet?

Well it seems this is going down to the wire, really didn't expect that.

Still no charges, which continues to suggest that the suspects are not cooperating and that there is still some uncertainty about who did what, when and why.

Officers have been granted more time to question 5 people arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the Becky Watts investigation.

The four men (aged 29, 29, 23 and 23) and one woman (also aged 23) were arrested on Monday evening.

Today (04/03), the District Judge, sitting in Bristol Magistrates' Court, granted a warrant of further detention for an additional 24 hours.

The five suspects remain in custody at this time.

You only have to read the comments on the Bristol Post's facebook page to see the damage that can be done. At least the Daily Mail isn't allowing comments.

If these people are not complicit (or even if some of them are), this will certainly make people think twice about contacting the police in such cases. I do understand that they would have to come under investigation and it's quite understandable that they were arrested, but there should be a complete ban on anyone publishing their identities until and if they are charged.

I understand what you are saying but my point was that the media have not "named the suspects under arrest" as such. They have named people believed to live in certain properties and allowed the public to draw their own conclusions. It's a difficult call as in some cases, allowing the suspects name to be known can help a case. In the April Jones case, IIRC it was the police themselves who named the suspect prior to charging. A large part of the problem is that many of the public do not seem to draw a distinction between being arrested and being charged let alone being convicted. Not sure how that gets solved.

They don't have to know the nitty gritty details like when where or why, just enough evidence for the police to take to the cps showing that they more than likely killed her (in layman's terms). You're right though it is going to the wire. Maybe they don't have enough evidence to charge both persons as yet

We must hear more about NM and SP soon, I'm sure I heard on the news they said it was 3PM they had to either release or charge them. And I have to go pick my kitty up from the vet now!

If we add up all the custody time (approx) of all the suspects so far 2 x 92 + 5 x 44 = 404 hours.

With sleep, rest and meal breaks, plus time to talk privately with solicitors less than half of that will be useful interview time.

But still that's over 150 hours of interview time with no charges.

You're right. Being arrested is also to protect the rights of the individuals that have been arrested (I.e strict guidelines on how long they can be held etc) however many people see the action of being arrested as an indication of guilt
