Yeah, if a friend of mine's sister went missing and he then asked me to hide bags/boxes of stuff in my shed I guarantee I'd be checking what's in them, I don't think any of them are that naive.

I'd guess that this all happened before news of Becky's disappearance hit the headlines, probably the night before she was reported missing. So it's not out of the question they either didn't check what was in the bags until they heard about Becky disappearing, or at least that they didn't realize who the body parts belonged to - could've been a "don't tell me anything mate, I don't want to know" kind of scenario...

Unless you have no sense of smell you would not keep decomposing body parts in a warm house. Even after one day the smell would be overpowering.

Having worked in mortuaries, I concur. We don't know when she was killed though, I hope on day 1.

From Caron Bell, ITVs Twitter

@CaronBellITV: Alleged offences took place between 22 Feb and 3 March: indicates police evidence that #BeckyWatts was dead 4 days after she went missing.

Omg---does this mean she was alive and being held by these monsters for 4 days?

Eta: I suppose not necessarily, maybe just that they know for sure that she was dead by this day..

Still don't think we have a clue who it was.

I am sure the original wording was tip off.

Odd word to use if it came from someone currently under arrest. So for me that rules out NM and SH.

One person has walked free from this, aren't they the most likely out of all those arrested?

This was the original statement

Detective Superintendent Mike Courtiour made the following statement:

“As a result of new information received late last night (02/03), we attended a house at Barton Court in the Barton Hill area of Bristol.

“The information suggested that Becky’s body had been cut up and a search at the new location resulted in the discovery of body parts.

from here https://www.avonandsomerset.police....-discovery-made-in-becky-watts-investigation/

I thought at the time, either information from one of the two in custody at that time (DM or SH) or from someone at Barton Court.

ETA now that SH has been charged with Perverting the course of justice, rather than assisting an offender, does that lean towards it not being her who gave them that information? Or possibly I'm inferring too much from the charge

I hope so too, I hope it was quick. If so that means the body may have been 'kept' somewhere from Thurs- Sun (22nd) Could explain why those drums/bins were taken to be examined :(

(I'm trying to wrap my head around this....do we know for sure yet that this is a sexually motivated case? Maybe Holly Bobo-ish?)

They were also looking for the phone and laptop, remember. Going through the bins is routine in a murder or kidnap enquiry. They look for any kind of clue.

Hey margarita, no we don't. Officially we do not know any motive, just speculating.

No, we don't, and we won't know for some time. It seems the most likely reason though.

(Sorry, I don't know who Holly Bobo is.)

That is true, we've not heard a thing about the laptop or phone since the day after that laptop/laptop case was found during the public search when LE said it was not connected, and that Becky's laptop was still missing, and we have heard nothing of the phone, or possible tablet.

Not sure I can see it being either NM or SH who supplied the information regarding the whereabouts of the body. Up to that point, Monday evening, they were both being held on suspicion of kidnap only. They could have carried on with no comment to the end of the 96 hours and......assuming their pals on the outside did not reveal anything.......they would have stood a good chance of ending up facing a kidnap charge only. ( which I know is not good but had to be better for them than a murder charge/ PTCJ).

It seems ( unless there are other factors we dont know, plenty I'm sure ) that it was the discovery of RW that led to the re arrest on suspicion of murder.

So my thought would be that it was one of the 5 who supplied the information. They had had over 2 days and nights of waiting to see if NM and SH would be released and, if my memory serves, NM and SH would have been into their third period of interview time by Monday evening, so it was becoming clear that they were going to be held up to the wire.
At that point, I suspect one or more of the 5 ( or 4 if number 5 had no knowledge of anything ) had decided that it would be safer all round for them to be the good citizens, rather than run the risk of NM trying to land blame onto them.

Ah yes, I had forgotten that the Crimewatch appeal was Monday.........could have been the trigger for them to speak up

I'm also sure it occurred after the Crime watch appeal

I hope so too...........and it might also tie in with the date that the car was left in Wilton Close. Neighbours said it had been there definately since the Monday ( 23rd ) and possibly earlier. So could have been movement over the week end, before the search escalated.

Agreed. We can never forget they had plenty of time to move and to try to cover. Becky disappeared on a Thursday morning. The Friday afternoon was when the family reported her missing. And only 24 hours after or more when the police released the first appeals. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Interesting to note that JI lives nearly 20 miles away from the others

I thought they were arrested for murder before the discovery at Barton Court.

2nd March statement published 16:36
A 28 year old man and a 21 year old woman were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of the kidnap of Rebecca Watts. This afternoon, they have been further arrested on suspicion of the murder of Rebecca Watts

So they arrested for murder before they found the body parts looking at that.

I seem to remember SH being unwell and going to hospital after the discovery of body parts, I wonder if she got a big, bad shock about just what the person she'd been lying for was capable of doing.

Ah, my mistake. I had it as being after the discovery....

Somehow I still dont think it was SH though - no reason for that, jmo

I still think it was one of the 4 or 5 who decided that they should speak up quickly before NM tried to implicate them.
