Yeah that's a bit more clearer Cags now you mentioned wetherspoons is part of the travelodge - it would be interesting to know why he went to that warehouse a witness last claim to have seen him at it might mean he had to cross abridge there and back

Interesting he only just meet these people a few hours earlier the police must have spoken to these 2 people it makes it sound like he went to the toilet but never came out but when you have been drinking sometimes you can mistake a word like "toilet" "going hotel"

Due to adverse weather conditions and the current level of the river, it has been decided that the river is not safe enough for searches to resume today.

River search for missing Skipton man Rory Johnson-Hatfield has resumed in York

THE search for missing Rory Johnson-Hatfield is resuming on York's River Ouse today.

Boats operated by the police Regional Underwater Search Team and York Rescue Boat are to take part in the search, which was suspended yesterday because of unfavourable conditions.

Dave Benson, founder of the rescue boat charity, said: "I am hoping we can eliminate this line of inquiry for the peace of mind of the family."

The investigation continued yesterday with officers following up inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage.

Searches continue.

Police can confirm that CCTV images of a man, taken at 12.47am Friday 20 November, have been positively identified as Rory Johnson by his family. The footage shows Rory in the City Mills area of York.

UPDATE: Friday, November 27. *River Searches Suspended*

POLICE searching for missing Rory Johnson-Hatfield, who disappeared in York last week, have today revealed more about their investigation.

Rory, 29, was last seen on CCTV in the early hours of Friday, November 20, close to the City Mills area of York after drinking at a hotel and pub in the city.

Superintendent Adam Thomson said police had worked with Police Scotland to identify the man Rory had been drinking with on the night he disappeared, and that man had voluntarily returned to York to assist with the police search.

Supt Thomson said: "That witness is not a York resident and cannot identify the pub. He has returned to York to try and help us identify the pub, but could not do so from walking the ground with the police officers.

"The big problem is that we still don't know what that last pub was. The man gave a rough description of the inside of the pub, but that can fit a lot of the small pubs in the city."

Supt Thomson said 3D and sonar searches of the river had taken place from the City Mills area to the A64 in the last week, but although police still considered the river as "one strong line of enquiry", they have now been suspended.


BBM - It might help to tell the public those descriptions, someone surely would be able to recognise it!

The witness couldn't show them which pub it was? Were they very drunk? Have flyers been shown to all pubs in the city?

I've been on nights out and been into bars/pubs without always knowing the name. However, I am pretty sure I'd be able to give a good estimate of where it was! This other guy must remember something... like whether he walked home, if he crossed a bridge, was it local (given they were at the hotel already, surely wouldn't have gone across town or anything), who suggested it etc etc. Seems very odd they can't find it...

he must have had some idea where they where in the city mills area of York if they checked all the pubs/bars in that area their has to be one that looks familiar surley! he was probably the last person to be seen with Rory he must have some recollection of that evening or where he last seen him, if he was too drunk to remember then he is not gonna be much use to the police

Yes it would be a good help I think to release the CCTV. It might help to show where he was last seen too. Saying just Castle Mills is a bit vague, I mean where was it exactly he was spotted? Castle Mills bridge runs over the Foss, St Georges Car park is beside it and also beside the Ouse, and would be classed as ' Castle Mills' Then there was the reporter on BBC look north, who was stood next to the Bonding Warehouse when they said it was where he was last seen, but that's Skeldergate not Castle Mills. I'm so confused!

And yes I agree, the witness returning to try and help is absolutely amazing! It's a shame his memories of the night seem so vague.

its feasible that they had been drinking all day , maybe his friend had enough and retired to bed , they may have gone out earlier and retired back nearer to the hotel ( I think someone said earlier why weren't they out on the town, )perhaps they had been) maybe friend had an early train to catch and was tetchy with him for going out again, sorry its a lot of maybes
