Found Deceased UK - Sally Allan, 59, Ponteland, Northumberland, 26 December 2015

I think, reading between all the various lines, it seems Sally had had enough and has likely headed to the river intentionally.

I'm wondering if its Alzheimers related or something similar. Although she may have shown no previous symptoms the first sign of my son's great grandmother's Alzheimers was that she started getting up in the middle of the night thinking it was daytime and going out. She rang her daughter at around half four one morning to tell her she'd just walked into town and none of the shops were open. I'm wondering if something similar has happened to Sally, shes woken at 3, gone downstairs for a drink, looked at the clock thought it was 3 in the afternoon, put her coat on and gone off for a walk. People with Alzheimers are often drawn to water too. I wonder had she ever walked that route before or whether she was heading for somewhere from her past?

Sally was walking with determination in that video. She seemed to be powering on, as if she was heading somewhere

And after 3 hours that's some determination.

From what I've read the family are adamant that this is totally out of character, would any kind of dementia get to a stage where someone behaves like this without anyone noticing any other unusual behaviour? I'm still clutching at straws for a happy outcome.

I'm not 100% clued up on sleep walking but cctv shows she was dressed in pj's, a cream fleece and anorak. I'm guessing that if she was sleep walking she woldnt have been dressed like that?

Similarly the comments from the daughter on Daily Mail page seem to suggest Sally and husband both used the toilet before Sally went downstairs for what the husband presumed was a gkass of water so I'm guessing she was awake and fully aware at the time.

I wonder how long before hubby realised she hadn't come back up to bed?

I read that he thought she was getting a drink, and he fell back asleep. When he woke up in the morning, he assumed she had gone to the spare room to sleep and thought nothing more of it. When he later realised that she hadn't slept there, and was missing, he phoned the police.

To me that's a big indicator as to the family suspecting what has happened. No mention of calling around family and friends or trying her mobile - just an immediate call to the police. Obviously the reporting may be wrong but that is how it read. I'll try to find the link to where I saw the report, and add it.

ETA, here is is:

Mr Allan saw his wife leave their shared bedroom at 3am on the morning of Boxing Day, believing she was going downstairs to get a drink of water or a cup of tea, which was not unusual for her.
When he woke in the morning and she was not in bed, he concluded that she must have been sleeping in their spare room.
However, once realising she was nowhere to be seen, he contacted the police.

Problem is that is a DM article and their reporters are not known to be accurate - the comment by Sally's daughter in the comments section bears clear proof of this.

Just seen this CCTV footage and wow - to me that's one hell of a pace to be walking at - angry? determined? heading to somewhere in particular (to meet someone)? http://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/2015-12-31/police-release-cctv-footage-of-missing-sally-allan/

ETA: here's another recent story about Sally, again from a "red top" newspaper - interviews with people who talk about Sally in the past tense which I find odd. Well, I do and I don't find it odd - if there's a strong theory based on reasons we're not aware of then the past tense makes sense, I guess my hinky meter just wibbles a bit at past tense references!

That's a good point Rach, if the reporting is correct then calling the police is an unusual first reaction. I assume she didn't take her mobile so I can see why he didn't call that but to check with the children would seem a more likely starting point. I haven't seem anything about whether she had a car but no mention of checking that.

I also wonder at what stage they were sure that she was still wearing her night clothes, the more natural thing would be to think that someone who has left home in the middle of the night would have got dressed first imo. If I have the timings right it was some time after she left that any cctv footage was found.

The comments of the neighbour are a bit odd, I agree, some of what he says could be referring specifically to Christmas morning where the past tense would be correct but I would expect the general observations to be in the present tense.

I have the radio on listening to 5 live and they are taking to a lady from Newcastle about the NYE celebrations. I hope everyone out in the city tonight is looking out for any sign of Sally

And unless the husband has been mis-quoted he's talking in the past tense too

The Quayside will be packed with people tonight and there will be people out in the city centre drinking and partying too. I hope that tonight is the night that Sally is returned safely to her family x

It's a strange quote from her husband, he uses two different tenses in the same sentence if it's correct.

I've checked the DM and the local paper online and I cant see that quote used, I wonder if the Mirror have got it wrong

Coming late to this case ...

Sally has been missing for a week now, it's not looking good for a happy outcome is it? :(

If she had been sleep walking or had (early) dementia, or ran off in a huff, she would have been found by now I would think.

I agree that in the video she looks purposeful, she's walking very fast for someone who just walked for over three hours. Are there no other cameras in this area? None near the bridge? I'm surprised this is the last sighting of her.

What also confuses me is why it is said that the cctv clip is from 5:57 am but on the video itself it says 7:15 ?

I hope local hospitals have been checked. She might have collapsed and was confused/unconscious. It's a long shot I know but I would be glad if she was found alive. She looks like a good friend of mine who lives in Brighton.

I use to sleep walk when I was a teenager. Once I got up, turned on the lights inside the house, and went out the door. I started walking down the street and my parents, hearing something, found the lights on, door open and took after me. If she were sleepwalking I am not sure if she would have known to put on her coat. But I am sure every sleepwalker behaves differently.

I wonder if she always walked swinging her left arm like that. Don't people usually swing both arms more equally. I should look at the video again.

I noticed that about her left arm. I also thought she was walking like she was being followed. Not that after 3 hrs that makes sense...
