When the UK press uses terms like "High Risk" does it mean something different to "vulnerable"? ...what are the implications?
On this side of the pond we see a lot of cases where the missing person has been described as vulnerable and this can encompass a victim that is: suicidal, drug-using, a runaway, suffering mental illness etc

High risk in the UK means there's a risk of serious harm to either the subject or the public. Information received by Police has been assessed as this being very likely.

RE: the arrest in this case being "released under investigation" - this would mean that they are still a person of interest? Isn't it like being out on bail but without bail conditions?

Yes. Since he was arrested he will have been interviewed under caution. I'm guessing that "released under investigation" is the modern version of "released on police bail" but I'm not certain of that.

Just checked news again and the BBC is reporting that the man was arrested on suspicion of "kidnapping" Kidnap arrest in missing midwife probe
Good to see the police being proactive here, they obviously have suspicions of what has happened. I hope Samantha is taking time out herself but I think it's extremely unlikely that she would just not show up for work. Midwives are stretched to a huge extent even without anyone going sick and she would know that not phoning ahead to warn them she wouldn't be in could cause serious problems. It's a huge no-no to not call in as soon as you can.
Being arrested in the UK is the equivalent of being brought in for questioning in the US.

Missing midwife, 28, had put her unused wedding dress up for sale just three weeks earlier as relatives make desperate Facebook appeals to find her

A midwife who went missing at the weekend had advertised an unused wedding dress for sale just weeks earlier.

A relative last night confirmed Samantha Eastwood had been due to tie the knot, only for her wedding to ‘fall through’.

A neighbour also described hearing a scream come from the 1930s property at around 2pm on Friday. They said the midwife had lived at the property with a ‘slightly older man’ until around the start of the year, when he left.

In a Facebook marketplace post shared by her mother, Carole Eastwood, 59, on July 13, the midwife had advertised an ‘Alfred Angelo Wedding Dress’ for sale for £400.

Snipped from Article -

"A relative last night confirmed Samantha Eastwood had been due to tie the knot, only for her wedding to ‘fall through’."

I think it's going to become apparent the male arrested was well known to Samantha.

Edit: Sorry Melmoth I can see you already quoted that bit now, still getting used to this new site!

Article also has a quote from a neighbor saying she lived there with a slightly older man. Bloke that was arrested was 32 I think? Or did I imagine that?

What does "slightly older" refer to? Slightly older than her?

Does not sound hopeful. I wonder who of the two called off the wedding. I wonder whether her decision to sell the dress dashed someone's still lingering hopes ...

Yes I took that to mean slightly older than her. No it is not looking good at all.

Oh this changes my whole thoughts of what has happened. Initially I thought when she was seen on cctv at the station that maybe she had taken herself off somewhere especially as listed as vulnerable.
Now it seems as if foul play is involved. I hope she is safe x

Yes, that's definitely on the cards.

No problem. It's somewhat confusing, especially with the lag the site is experiencing.

I'm also confused about this. It's not clear which of the couple ended the relationship, just that the man she was due to marry left. If he was the one who broke it off, there doesn't seem to be any reason for him to have done anything to her, but if she broke if off then he might harm her if he did not accept the end of the relationship.

It's also not clear how imminent the wedding was, just that they "had been due to tie the knot". The fact that Samantha had bought her wedding dress doesn't give much of a clue since I know many women will buy it a year or more before the wedding date.

Goes to show how different the terms are in different countries - I read "high risk midwife" as a midwife who works with high risk patients...

So approximate timeline:

- Sometime at the beginning of the year a ‘slightly older man’ moves out of her house
- 3 weeks before she goes missing, Samantha lists unworn wedding dress for sale
- Friday, July 27, 7:45 am, Samantha is last confirmed seen leaving work
- Friday, July 27, about 2 pm, Samantha’s neighbors describe hearing a scream from her property
- Friday, July 27, evening, Samantha fails to show up for work and alarms are raised by coworkers

My notes: If she owned the house, the older guy could have moved out due to her kicking him out, so she could have been the one who called off the marriage. Former roommate/partner would likely know her schedule fairly well and how to get into her house.

I had a former roommate who worked night shift in labor and delivery, she would come home around 8 and sleep until 1:30 - 2:30 pm. If someone wanted to break in and surprise Samantha, this could be done more easily if she were known to be sleeping around that time.

Why did the neighbors not check on her or call police when hearing a scream? This is the second case this week I’ve hear of neighbors hearing screams and (seemingly) doing nothing. Did they look over at her property and see any suspicious vehicles? Is her vehicle missing?

All MOO

This link has been posted above, but just thought I'd point out:

The mother of a 34-year-old man understood to have been a recent boyfriend of Miss Eastwood welled up with tears when contacted by the Daily Mail yesterday but said only: ‘I know why you are here – I don’t want to say anything.’

[...]

A police spokesman last night said a 32-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of kidnap. He has since been released on conditional bail while inquiries continue.

BBM. There could be a mix up in the reporting of ages and the 'recent boyfriend' may not be the ex-fiance, but it looks like the 34YO isn't who was arrested.
