Devastated dad of Deirdre Jacob urges missing Louth woman Saoirse Smyth’s killers to end her family’s pain
THE grieving dad of tragic teen Deirdre Jacob last night spoke out about missing girl Saoirse Smyth, saying: “I’d hate another family to experience the pain we felt.”
Michael Jacob, whose 18-year-old daughter was last seen on July 28, 1998, near her home in Newbridge, Co Kildare, was speaking as a new search for Saoirse’s remains was launched by gardai in Omeath, Co Louth.
Yesterday Michael added: “As a parent who has experienced this nightmare for a very, very long time, I can only hope that this investigation is resolved quickly.
“I would appeal directly to those behind this terrible incident to do the right thing and tell her family where she is.
“Cases of this nature depend on people coming forward with information very swiftly and we would like to offer our support to this woman’s family.
“I would hate for another family to experience the pain we have felt over the last 21 years and we are praying this search can yield positive results for the family.”
Saoirse, 28, who had been living in Omeath, was last seen in Belfast on April 11, 2017.

Cops are continuing to comb woodlands in a bid to find the body of missing Saoirse Smyth.
Police fear the west Belfast woman was killed by a drugs gangster and dumped in a shallow grave at an Omeath forest, Co Louth.
Saoirse, 28, vanished in April 2017 and PSNI bosses have traced her final movements back to the border town where she was staying in a holiday home.
Detective Chief Inspector Darren McCarthy said: “Inquiries have led us to believe that she has been murdered.”
The PSNI has joined forces with gardai on the murder probe.
Teams began searching a wooded area off the Ferryhill Road in Omeath yesterday morning.

In an interview with UTV News, Vera Smyth told of how she raised Saoirse from the age of four following the death of her mother.
"It's unreal just thinking about it, I mean whoever killed her, have they no conscience?" she asked.
"Do they not think what they're putting their people through? And we have to go through this day in and day out wondering where she is, not knowing where she is.
"Was she shot, was she stabbed, was she strangled? You don't know what. And if her body's going to be found, what way is it going to be? You just don't know. Put a closure to this, please put a closure to it."

SEARCH FOR MISSING SAOIRSE SMYTH CALLED OFF AFTER ‘NOTHING OF SIGNIFICANCE’ FOUND
Gardai have stopped the latest search for Saoirse Smyth as they have found ‘nothing of significance’.
A specialist forensic archaeologist and specialist cadaver search dogs were used in the search as gardai believe that Ms Smyth may have been murdered.
A garda spokesperson said: ‘An Garda Síochána have completed their searches in Omeath, Co. Louth, in relation to the disappearance of Saoirse Smyth, today Friday 20 September.
‘The search returned nothing of significance. An Garda Síochána will continue to support their colleagues from the PSNI in relation to this investigation.’
