A Kent Police spokesman said: "Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, with authorisation from the Crown Prosecution Service, have charged Ben Lacomba, aged 38, from Bazes Shaw, New Ash Green, with the murder of Sarah Wellgreen.

"Mr Lacomba, who was arrested on October 16 in connection with the investigation, was re-arrested on December 20 2018.

"He has been charged with murder and is remanded to appear by video link before Medway Magistrates’ Court at 10am on Friday December 21."

Hopefully he will break under the pressure of questioning in regard to whatever the new evidence shows, and admit what he did and allow her body to be put to rest.

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Sarah Wellgreen have re-arrested her ex-partner and taken away a car from outside the home they shared.
A red taxi was loaded onto the back of a transport lorry.

Wow - I thought they would have examined the car ages ago.... rather tardy of them.

I'm astonished - does seem way too late

I would think the authorisation from the CPS was needed because there is no body. Hopefully they find her body, not only for her family but because I imagine the case will be harder to prosecute without it. Unless they have him caught on camera somewhere moving her body.

Am guessing the police were into their final 24 hours then.

So probably makes sense to charge tonight, bcos they are into sleep time now, and would have to let him go or charge by 8am tomorrow
Plus it means they can get him into court tomorrow before the Christmas break

I feel so sorry for Sarah's children, especially the three who were living with her and BL. I especially feel for the 13 year-old who must be fully aware of what's going on. I've always thought that it was he who told the police that he last saw his mom on the evening of Tuesday 9th after she got home from work, and that he didn't see her the following morning or indeed after that. This information and the fact Sarah was reported missing fairly soon after she disappeared i believe helped police to act quickly in the search for her. Possibly it took BL by surprise too as he may well have been planning to dispose of Sarah's possessions and possibly her car too, but didn't have time.

If he is responsible he should confess and tell them where Sarah is for the sake of her family, her friends and HIS three children. My thoughts are with them all at this sad time.

absolutely dreadful for the children. Lost their mum, but probably never thinking it was anything to do with their dad....and now this.
All their classmates will be talking about Christmas and presents and they will be having to deal with this horror. I feel desperately sad for them.

I wonder if he was working that night in the taxi.

This is reminding me a bit of Natalie Hemming. I hope none of the kids witnessed anything in this case.

I feel the arrest would have been a lot sooner if they had. Unless the children only just said something to someone about it.

Wasn't there footage of a man that looked like him and parking an identical car? It was near a river ( edited to add - it was the Thames, near the Dartford crossing) . Very suspicious.

The CCTV images that could hold the key to the fate of missing mother-of five Sarah Wellgreen | Daily Mail Online
I don't know why but I rather had the impression that footage was after the night in question, that it was suggested he went back to the scene. Maybe I'm mistaken though and it wasn't even mentioned what date it was from so I wrongly assumed.

ETA I've just opened your link - it says "Grainy CCTV which was filmed five days after she was last seen has emerged."

It seems so strange that the CCTV image was put in the paper. Usually we don't get to see any evidence before trial. Do you suppose it was to see if anyone else would come forward and say it was them, because they aren't 100% sure it's him? Or to monitor how BL would behave seeing himself in the papers?

The former partner of missing mum-of-five Sarah Wellgreen has appeared in court charged with her murder.

Ben Lacomba spoke to confirm his name, age and address during a brief hearing this morning.

The 38-year-old appeared via video link at Medway Magistrates’ Court in Chatham, Kent.

He was dressed in a black zip-up hoody behind a desk next to his legal representative.

The hearing lasted just a couple of minutes.
