''The spokesperson added: "This is being treated as a non-suspicious death but as with all investigations of this nature we are keeping an open mind and following all lines of enquiry.

"We ask the public and media not to speculate about the case."

A weird, small world thing.

I’m in the USA, and yesterday streamed a Prime Video series, “A Confession.” Savernake Forest, which I’d never heard of before, figures into the disappearance of a young woman. Based on a true story.

A Confession (TV Mini Series 2019) - IMDb

A Confession: With Martin Freeman, Siobhan Finneran, Imelda Staunton, Peter Wight. DSU Stephen Fulcher intends on catching a killer of a missing woman, even if that may cost him his career and reputation.

I had never heard of it either until last week when I actually visited this wood for the first time. It is very beautiful and large with some very interesting old trees.

What a strange story.

I’m intrigued that it’s being classed as a non-suspicious death. Did the person indicate self harm in some way? I can’t think of any of way this wouldn’t be a little bit suspicious.

Not terribly uncommon, some cases of accidental burning happened before (often drunk or otherwise impaired people that dropped a burning cigarette on their flammable clothing, bedding etc) and there are also examples of suicides by pills that before they conked out put gasoline on their clothes and set themselves on fire.

In this case with LE stating so clearly it is classified as non suspicious but they’re of course open to new developments if necessary, I believe the evidence for a non suspicious death must be compelling

Yup. Charcoal burning was a very widespread activity in English woodlands up to the mid 18th century. Initially it produced charcoal for use in blacksmiths' smithies and small scale iron smelting. Later, for about 100 years, it was produced in larger quantities for the furnaces of the early industrial revolution until the demand outstripped supply and other fuels were adopted, including the development of coke.

It still goes on on a small scale today producing very high quality barbecue charcoal. You can even go on courses to learn how to do it.
