GUILTY UK - Sgt. Matt Ratana, 54, shot dead inside custody centre in south London, 25 Sept 2020 *arrest*

A detention officer who discovered a holster that concealed a gun used to murder a custody sergeant expressed his "astonishment" that colleagues missed it during a search, an inquest heard.

The partner of a police sergeant killed in a custody cell has said he was let down by the "shoddy and inadequate" performance of the Metropolitan Police.
Sgt Matiu Ratana, known as Matt, was murdered in September 2020 after officers failed to find a gun concealed on arrested man Louis De Zoysa.
Su Bushby, speaking after an inquest verdict of unlawful killing, said police failures left her "devastated".
"If people had done their job properly, Matt would still be alive today".

At a hearing earlier, De Zoysa's barristers argued he should be allowed to challenge his conviction and sentence on the grounds that he was wrongly deemed fit to plead and stand trial, and that his sentence should not have been a whole-life order.

In a ruling, Dame Victoria Sharp, Mr Justice Goss and Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb dismissed the appeal bids.

Dame Victoria said: "All applications will be refused, for reasons which we will give in writing."

Those written reasons will be released at a later date.
