GUILTY Uk - Sophie Lionnet, 21, Body Found Burned, Wandsworth, London, 20 Sep 2017 *arrests*

Thanks Legally. Watching that is the first time it hit me that he was more than just a witness as Sabrina's ex. It's a strange thing because I thought of him as one of a string of witnesses in the trial, and I never stopped to consider how it must have been for MW, having his life put under scrutiny and how Sophie died really because of his relationship with Sabrina, in a twisted way. He must have felt a burden in that sense even though he had never even heard of her before she was murdered.

Google translation;

The body of the girl is expected in the afternoon of Saturday in the department. Last week, the murderers of the au pair from Paron were convicted by the London Criminal Court.

Nearly nine months after the murder, the funeral will be celebrated next Wednesday in Sens Cathedral. The family will finally be able to begin the process of mourning explains Catherine Devallonné Sophie's mother: "This is a moment that I have been waiting for months, but with the trial that was very long it was necessary to wait. Now I am happy that my daughter is coming back to be able to mourn. We were very well accompanied by the state, there was no problem. We were well led, well advised. They have been of great help. It is a terrible test. the body will be placed in a burial chamber before mass so that we can gather, especially her brother and her sister and for those who wish it too. "

I am a little late, but woohoo! I'm glad these two evil-doers will no longer be out and about in the world causing chaos. They are being locked up where they belong! I'm feel so sad for Sophie's family. I cannot even imagine. Hopefully the verdict brings some amount of peace to them.

Sentencing coming up on Tuesday! It will be interesting to see if they get equal sentences.

It's interesting that she was convicted unanimously and he was convicted on a majority. Given the length of time deliberations were extended concerning his charges and two jurors feeling that his involvement was lesser, and that he may not have murdered Sophie, I wonder if this will have any bearing on the sentence. It's still a sound conviction but it does indicate that those jurors felt more sympathetic towards him.

Channel 5 has a programme about this case on Tuesday night at 10pm, it's a bit soon so I doubt they'll have much insight beyond what we already know. I find their programmes are usually a bit lacking in depth, but still interesting for a roundup.

I'm not sure why this was allowed, (and it's all about how SK feels) but:

In a letter read out to the court Kouider said she was sorry for killing the au pair and wished she could "turn the clock back".

She said: "Dear Sophie, May peace be with you. First of all I wish everyone especially her parents and family well, all are suffering.

"How deeply sorry I am for what happened and in fact we shared many good times.

"Sophie I am shocked and sad that you are not part of this world any more.

"It feels like a horrible dream to me that I wish I could just wake up from.

"I am suffering every day thinking of you and what happened to you and I wish I could turn the clock back on what happened and you could still be alive today.

"Sophie I wish things could have been different and that you rest in peace with a God."

Good riddance to them both, glad to see a reasonably decent sentence length. I'm slightly surprised Medouni got the same as Kouider, as she came across as the leader; certainly, he had ample opportunity to stop participating, but I got the feeling he'd never have got so far without her madness leading him that way.

Just a few snippets to comply with 10% rule:

Medouni, who told a psychiatrist earlier this month he was "still in love" with his co-defendant,...

The court was packed with Sophie's relatives, with French journalists who have covered the case avidly, and with nine of the 12 jurors who returned to hear the sentence passed.

Kouider, who was prone to outbursts during the trial, appeared calm and listened quietly as an interpreter translated the court's proceedings into French for her.

After sentence was passed Kouider, who was wearing black, was led away to the cells, looking dazed.

In a way that puts his culpability higher, because he wasn't suffering the delusions. At the end of the day they both knew the torturing and violence was cruelty and disregard for Sophie in its most extreme form, and I'm sure this was not a moment of madness, it was so prolonged. There was never an excuse to lay a finger on her.

Why would they allow that letter to be read out in court ? A complete insult to Sophie's family and friends.

Good to see a reasonably long sentence for both of them, although a whole of life would have been wonderful.

I've read in later reports it was read by Icah Peart in mitigation. But it reads like SK still thinks she's the victim.
