GUILTY UK - Star Hobson, 16 months, murdered, Sep 2020 *arrest*

Bizarre. Why was she trusted to look after other people’s children?

To be honest I bet she was perfectly fine with her own relations. She wouldn’t hurt one of her own. She had lots of experience with children through young relatives and there had been no concerns before Star.

An unpleasant aspect of her culture is looking after their own and contempt for outsiders. Not all of them, but SB and her family are negative stereotypes personified. This is why her family are sticking up for her even though they know what she’s done.

Agreed, but have followed Arthur's case, thinking that no-one else was interested (except on here!) Until the guilty verdict then the country went crazy about it. Hope Star gets the same respect. We'll see, hope other factors won't stop this happening...

What is happening at court today?

The Judge to finish summing up, the Jury to retire after lunch.

I think this also ties in with feelings of control and jealousy that wouldn’t necessarily have been present with SB’s family’s children.

I’m interested in the jury being 11 men with 1 woman and if that has any bearing on the result?

Such excellent reporting on this case - it really has to be commended, wish every case had the same amount of detail.

I think the jury will convict SB of murder and without much deliberation. As far as FS, I think she will be found not guilty of murder, and I am doubtful if she will get found guilty of causing or allowing …. If there was a cruelty or neglect charge, I think she would be found guilty - What are your thoughts?

The jury are out - how do we get this thread changed to Verdict Watch?

Thats the conclusion I've reached also, though I'm doubtful FS will walk free, I think she should be given time for her own good/safety. IMO.

No verdict today.

How long did it take Arthur's Jury to reach a verdict? I'm actually surprised it's not a slam dunk GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES for SB verdict tbh. I wonder if the procrastination is because they don't know how to find on the charges for FS?

SB has a YouTube channel, one of the things I noticed was there were kids present for some of the video and the kids were being referred to as it.

She comes across as chavvy as hell in her videos. Especially the vile dancing around a car. I don’t know how she had the cheek to call FS and her family “low class”.

It was just over 6 hours I think.

SB is charged with murder, manslaughter or causing/allowing the death of a child, she can only be convicted of one (or none) of them. Same with FS.

I reckon the jury needed approximately 6 seconds to find SB guilty of murder, but FS is a difficult one. Definitely not murder or manslaughter, but maybe causing/allowing, and I’m not sure even that.

I wish they were both additionally charged with child cruelty. That would be a slam dunk for both.

Yes I don't understand why a charge of cruelty was not included for FS not SB.
Is it allowed to have had that extra option available for FS? Or is that not possible to have different options available for each defendant? Or would that mean they would have had to be charged separately? Does anyone know?

Can I just say thank you to @Theomumx14 for starting this thread for Star. Getting her name out there, it was the first time I heard about her.. Let's hope real justice is served here.

I agree. I’m on the fence if FS is guilty of causing/allowing. It’s not beyond reasonable doubt IMO.

The jury have to be convinced that FS knew she was putting Star at risk of significant harm by contact with SB. I think after the 13th she beyond reasonable doubt knew there was risk of some harm. But that’s not causing/allowing death.

There’s no evidence she knew SB was assaulting her before the recycling plant weekend. Even then she was only suspicious, and didn’t know the severity of the attacks.

After FS’s suspicions began after the recycling plant, SB only saw Star twice more, both with FS present. Allegedly, the moment FS left for the toilet was when Star was murdered. It could be argued that FS’s presence ought to reasonably be thought to prevent harm.

The worst thing to me is that FS was intending for SB to babysit Star by herself again on the 25th, before the murder put paid to that.

I think she did cause/allow Stars death, because she certainly caused/allowed harm, to what degree the extent of the harm is unclear, but babies are so delicate. But causing/allowing is probably not beyond reasonable doubt, so I’m unsure if she’ll be convicted.

I really wish she was charged with child cruelty because that would be definite.

The jury can only deliberate against the charges on the indictment; one indictment per trial. There cannot be new charges added.

I understand that no new charges can be added but I'm talking about right at the start of the investigation and the bringing of the charging/case being brought to court e.g. during case management discussions..
