Well done to the jury - what an awful case to decide on - but yes I think the right and fair decision. The judge can make any allowances for FS as necessary in the course of sentencing.

Anyone who can look at that picture of Star and still think that FS “didn’t know” is delusional.

I am glad that FS has been convicted of causing/allowing. I think she should get a shortish sentence though. SB should get as long as possible, at least as long as Arthur's stepmum (life with 29 years).

The mugshots are interesting; without make up, Savanna looks better than FS. Turns out they're both regular looking girls who can scrub up well.

I think that was the right verdict; FS was always going to be a tricky one but the jury chose what I would have done too, under the circumstances - others will surely disagree and think she should've been guilty of a higher charge, and I can understand that reasoning as well. I hope she gets a reasonable sentence; I don't expect her to get a very long one, but 3-4 years would be appropriate in my mind. And she should never be allowed to raise a child again, hopefully if she ever has any, CPS will be on the case immediately (although I really hope she finds the good sense to get long-term contraception instead; that would be the best way to demonstrate remorse for her clear inability to parent her child...). As for SB, I had no doubt that she was guilty of murder, and I'm glad the jury agreed. Hopefully a long sentence for her.

Haunting videos show Star just months before she was murdered by mum's lover

So disturbing to see the effects of abuse on a tiny child. Star looks like she already knows she can't trust either of her 'care givers' - her facial expressions are so very telling; wary, suspicious, confused, uncomfortable... Social services must know that look. And the police. They both failed her catastrophically.

I feel so angry about this. When will social services take complaints from family members seriously? They are the complaints that are least likely to be malicious.

So many cases every single day on here of a mother/father choosing their partner over the safety and wellbeing of their child. If you don't want your child fine but give them either to a family member who wants them or up for adoption. These kids have a right to grow up.

I agree. However I think if we dig deeper, we may see that social workers, despite the fact that some are young/inexperienced/naive/negligent, have to work often blind folded and with their hands tied behind their back.
There needs to be a raft of changes in the law to give social workers more power and not to protect parental "rights" as a default where vulnerable children are involved.

That article mentions that SB used to swing Star by her legs. First time I’ve seen that mentioned. But it would explain the fracture.

Star Hobson: The short life and death of a beloved toddler

"Anita used to say, and she used to say this quite a lot: 'Poor little Star. You do realise she's gonna end up a little star in the sky, don't you?'," says David.

Oh my dear heart :( this poor child. Squeeze your little ones a mite tighter tonight for Star.

There really is a need for sweeping changes, judging by the number of cases recently. All this exacerbated by children being in the home separated from their wider family and school due to covid.

What needs to be addressed, and probably won’t be, is the fact that the reports to social services were considered “malicious” due to the pair’s minority status.
