UK- Two suitcases believed to contain human remains found, man seen acting suspiciously @ Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol, 11 July 2024

I think you are right Smkd.

I suspect that once you enter a murky underworld (such as dark web / discord type niche interest sites) there are many forces at play and everyone is vulnerable in some way. Including Mosquera.

And this time , Alfonso had no idea just how vulnerable he himself was. For all his economic advantage, signed agreements etc.

And poor Paul L got taken out in the crossfire.

Terrible and tragic

Wow okay. This case turned out to be rather more complex than just a couple of suitcases with torsos being found on a bridge. Was not expecting quite so much sex, extorsion and blackmail .
I'm still puzzled about the method of disposal of the bodies.

A man accused of murdering and dismembering a couple specifically travelled to Bristol to hurl suitcases containing their bodies off the Clifton Suspension Bridge, a court has heard.

Summing up the prosecution case at Woolwich Crown Court earlier, Deanna Heer KC said Mr Mosquera's specific intention was to throw the suitcases into the Avon Gorge, but he miscalculated his own strength.

So he's hired some poor fellow in a van to drive him (and two torsos in suitcases) from London, three hours away to Bristol (the opposite side of the country), just to throw the torsos over a really high suspension bridge.
It turned out to be a pretty terrible plan given that the Clifton Suspension Bridge has anti-suicide fencing all along it, and the River Avon below is completely empty at low tide.

Wasn't it Bristol Pride that weekend? His 'plan', such as it was, seems to have been to have made out that his victims had gone to Bristol Pride and had disappeared, whilst he made off with their money and possessions.

Yes I think it was.
The “ plan “ was a weekend away that ended in their murders by an unknown.
Not London which is crawling with CCTV and his own simply abysmal movements caught and tracked from the start.

Does the fact that he didn't destroy the camera mean he didn't know Alfonso would record him?

Reading back on this case on the Websleuth's threads, there are some succinct observations, quite a few smart people making comments that seemed to have some truth. There were mentions of Bristol pride on 13 July 2024 and the previous year there was an after party near the bridge where the suitcases were found.
I think an earlier comment thought that Mosquera was dumping the bodies near the bridge hoping that it was someone attending Pride that killed Paul and Alfred.
There were some other comments, quoting Occam's razor predicting that a lodger had killed two older people living at the house. Top marks for him as there were posts suggesting a hitman from Colombia and cocaine dealing in London which were a little wide of the mark.
Still this case was quite a bumpy ride and I think many of us learnt a little more than we may have wanted to.

He must have known if there was a tripod set up in the bedroom.
I think he must have overlooked it in his post murder clear up.
I think he fully expected to return to the house after the visit to Bristol.

That's interesting, Bristol Pride does seem like a plausible destination for this couple for the weekend.
Though one has to wonder how likely it is that the torsos of the men would attend a gay pride march in another city whilst their arms and legs were still at home in the freezer?

They were making videos all the time, of saleable quality. With lighting, judging by the clip shown in the news. He must have known. Maybe had he thought to try and cover his tracks rather than going straight to the bank accounts and ATM he might have remembered. Maybe he thought his cunning Bristol plan would mean the police would never catch him or link the bodies to the house, or not before he had come back to retrieve his laptop top.

(But obviously leaving the luggage tag on the cases gave the police a bit of a clue..)

Hideously- maybe he welcomed the camera and had plans to sell the video for yet more income.
Awful to think there might be other people who would probably pay to watch this.

I remember back in the 1980s that there was quite a scare in the UK with regards to so called 'snuff videos' of children being murdered by paedophiles, so there might well be an underground market somewhere for such material.
