We are growing increasingly concerned for missing 41 year old Viktor Vaimel, who was last seen in Rickmansworth on Saturday (3 July).

Viktor was last seen in the town at around 10am on Saturday. He is described as 5ft 10in tall with short brown hair and blue eyes. He is believed to be wearing blue jeans with a white T-shirt, white trainers and a black jacket. Viktor is a smoker and is considered to be vulnerable.

He has links to Tottenham in North London and often travels by train.

Following the recent wet conditions, officers believe Viktor may have been seeking shelter and could be hiding in a shed or outbuilding. If you spot him, please call 999 straight away.

If you have seen Viktor since he went missing, or have information on his whereabouts, please call the non-emergency number 101 quoting ISR 421 of 3 July.

Dive teams have been deployed in the search for a man who has been missing for almost a week.

Police are increasingly concerned for the welfare of Viktor Vaimel, who was last seen in Rickmansworth on Saturday, July 3 around 10am.

He is "considered" to be vulnerable by police.

With searches for the 41-year-old having been on going for five days, specialised dive teams are now conducting searches of the River Chess, Hertfordshire Constabulary said.

The force wrote on Facebook: "As part of our continuing enquiries to trace missing 41 year old Viktor Vaimel, specialised dive teams are conducting searches of the River Chess today (Thursday 8 July) for any clues as to his whereabouts."

The sister of a man who went missing in Rickmansworth more than three weeks ago has issued a public appeal for help to find her brother.

Viktor, who is aged 41, was last seen near the River Chess in Rickmansworth at around 10am on Saturday 3 July.

More than three weeks on, his sister Lana has come forward to share a message to the public – and to her brother – in order to help the police with their investigation.

Lana, who lives in the Three Rivers area, said: “It has been a very difficult time for our family because we have no idea if Viktor is okay.

“We are very worried about him because he does not have a phone to contact us, or any money to buy food.

“He is a great brother, and a very kind person who would give you his last penny if you needed it.

“We are grateful to the public who have already shared the previous appeals for Viktor. If you think you may have any information that could help, please share it with the police.

“Viktor, if you are reading this then please try and find a way to get in touch. You can live with us as long as you need to. We just want you to come home.”

Detective Sergeant Steve Boddy, from the Three Rivers Local Crime Unit, said: “It has been more than three weeks since Lana last saw her brother and I cannot imagine how hard it has been for her family.

“We have already carried out extensive enquiries into Viktor’s whereabouts, but sadly these have not produced any answers. This weekend, colleagues from our Safer Neighbourhood Team went out on patrol to share renewed leaflets about Viktor with the public.

“We’re growing increasingly concerned for his welfare as each day passes, and we cannot rule out the possibility that he may be taking shelter somewhere, especially with the recent hot weather we have had..."

Two-month anniversary appeal for missing Viktor Vaimel

  • Have you seen missing Viktor Vaimel?
  • The 41 year old was last seen more than two months ago in Rickmansworth.
  • Call 101 quoting ISR 421 of 3 July if you can help.

We are continuing to appeal for information about a man who has now been missing for more than two months.

Viktor Vaimel, aged 41, was last seen near the River Chess behind Salters Close in Rickmansworth at around 10am on Saturday 3 July.

Since he was reported missing police have followed several lines of enquiry, including using divers to search the river where he was last seen, and woodland in the local area.

They have handed out leaflets to the community, shared information with the Missing People charity and have reached out to both the Estonian community and media.

But more than eight weeks on they have not located Viktor, who is originally from Estonia but now lives in the Tottenham area of London.

On the day he went missing Viktor was visiting his sister Lana, who lives in Three Rivers.

Viktor is described as 5ft 10in tall with short brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans with a white T-shirt, white trainers and a black jacket.

He is a smoker and often travels by train. At the time he went missing, Viktor had no phone, travel documents, money or bank cards in his possession.

His sister Lana said: “All we want to know is that Viktor is safe. The whole family is extremely worried about him. We hope that he will come back home one day. It’s so painful for us to live in such an uncertainty. We love him and we wish he could just call us to say he is okay. Every day we are thinking of him.”

Three Rivers Chief Inspector Alex Warwick, said: “It has been more than two months since Viktor’s family have heard anything from him and it has understandably been an incredibly difficult time for them.

“We are doing all we can to bring them good news, but sadly our enquiries to date have not led us to any answers.

“Missing person cases are by their very nature challenging to investigate, and our enquiries in relation to bank accounts, local CCTV, phone activity and social media footprints have not produced any leads in relation to Viktor’s whereabouts, nor have searches of local river and woodland areas.

“If you have any information at all, please come forward and speak to us. Viktor’s family deserve answers.”

If you have seen Viktor since he went missing, or have information on his whereabouts, please call the non-emergency number 101, quoting ISR 421 of 3 July.

Any chance that Viktor may have walked along the rail tracks, attempting to make it to Tottenham? He may not have had rail fare and knowing which direction the train went to get home, may have walked along the rail right-of-way. Not uncommon for this to occur in the US without the Rail Drivers/Motorman spotting them. Railways have out buildings for storage and signal gear as well as idle rolling stock and maintenance equipment sitting on sidings that would offer shelter. Using my past experience to make some suggestions that might not have been considered initially.

On occasion there will be encampments of the homeless near rail tracks as they jump on moving freight trains to travel about. Has LE checked for any encampments along the rail right-of-way? During the 1920-s-1950's in the US this type of homeless person who traveled the rails was called a "Hobo".

I thought that too, but sometimes the remains in some other cases turned out to be someone who had died a couple of days ago. And sometimes what was referred to as a body was actually just a bone.

Anyway whether it's Viktor or someone else it's still very sad.

I think as that person only went missing yesterday they would have said a 'body'. 'Remains' sounds like a less identifiable body, sadly, as would one that has been in the river for 4 months.

That lady was found safe. The only other recent disappearance in the area is a young lad Nathaniel 15, missing from 28 October from Borehamwood. Hoping its not going to be him.

Yes hoping it's not the young guy.

I think the fact that it is described as "suspected human remains" indicates very poor condition of what was found. I think the forensics may have a tough job.
