UK - West London - Girl, 8 and man seriously injured in shooting (24 Nov '24)

An eight-year-old girl and a man have been seriously injured in a shooting, the Met Police has said.

The pair were taken to hospital following the shooting on Southern Row in Ladbroke Grove at about 17:30 GMT on Sunday.

The girl is in a stable condition with non life-threatening injuries. The condition of the man, 34, is unknown, while a 32-year-old woman was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

“I was literally coming out of the exit to my mum’s block of flats and as I was going out I saw a guy shooting into the car multiple times.

“He was firing directly, like at close range, as if you’re standing to open a door, they were shooting directly into it.

“I was completely in shock and I just ran back up the stairs because I was really scared.

“Then I looked and I heard screaming afterwards, and then people coming out to call the police.”

Supt Renowden thanks members of the public who came to help.

Both the 34-year-old man has sustained potentially life-changing injuries and the girl remains in surgery - but is in a stable condition, Supt Renowden adds.

Immediately following the incident, officers arrested a 22-year-old male on suspicion of attempted murder who remains in custody, Supt Renowden says.

''One witness claimed they saw a gunman firing up to four shots into the front window of a vehicle containing a man, woman and several children.

Sharon, 44, was leaving her mother’s flat to pick up her 14-year-old daughter when she saw the shooting. She said it “looked like a hit” and was “almost like a film”.

“He was purposefully shooting the driver in the driving seat,” she said. “There were flashes coming out the front of the gun. There were three of four bangs.

“It was almost like a film. It didn’t look like an accident. It looked like a hit.”
