Pretty sure A F is still alive and just changed her name. Or something along those lines. @devertere

Sorry for the late response, but I’m not familiar with what you’re describing. One suggestion: Streamline the location naming. Google Sheets can be used to automatically create a map. It would be a shame to miss out on that opportunity.
(Coordinates or Google PlaceID)
Also: WOW!
I’m finding information about a French man who immigrated to NY with the same name (surname spelling is different; swap the E and the U) and lived in Naples, FL. He would have probably gone missing before 2024 because he was born in 1935 and the latest residence record I found dates back to 2002 (if that).Another MISSING case: L.B. from Homestead, Florida. Declared dead in 2024.
I have not personally used this feature, but if you could add a column with the zip code/postal code, then you will have the “data” in place for someone to generate a map. So I believe they were recommending adding a column like that. Once that’s in place, some one who is Google sheets/maps savy, could generate a map with color coded dots (MPs and UIDs being different colors).Sorry for the late response, but I’m not familiar with what you’re describing. If feasible, I’d be more than happy to improve things! Maybe you could provide an example of what would better work for location naming.
Thanks for everyone wanting to help and make suggestions!! It takes a village.
Thank you!! I’ve been looking into the best way to add this to the Sheet. I’ve figured out how to create the map, but need to find the best way to input data into a new column. We have almost 600 names!I have not personally used this feature, but if you could add a column with the zip code/postal code, then you will have the “data” in place for someone to generate a map. This is the perfect place to share those cases and get more eyes on them. I’ve found that it never hurts. So many members here have a diverse set of skills and expertise.Major applause on this effort!!! So many answers left to be foundI've got a lot of "cases" I have held onto for years b/c I couldn't find an update) - Thanks much - peace.
That’s helpful to know!!I was informed when i had a contact at NamUs that if they are in codis, they are automatically compared, but not NamUs. They have to compare it with the help of the other agency. For example (I can use names because he’s in NamUs) I contacted a doe owner in San Francisco about a possible match for James Egan. Both were in NamUs, but San Francisco has to coordinate with Wisconsin to compare.
Also I don't see a key for the codes. A = Ancestry? N = Newspapers.com? G = genealogybank? Or others?
Is there a source you all don't have that I can research? I have Newspapers, Ancestry, genealogybank & newspaperarchive, just let me know.
Yes, newspapers.com is an approved source and can be used to open a new thread. You could post the article here so that others may search to make certain they’re still unidentified, but that’s not necessary as long as you’re relatively sure they are. Ideally, there’d be additional sources, but we all know that’s not always the case. And if we find cases of Unidentified Remains in newspaper archives, we can create WS threads for them, correct @MadMcGoo ?
I've tried it, but all it says to me is if I right click is: get link to cell and copy. That’s helpful to know!!
If you click on the column header/title “Sources”, there should be an option to “View Comment”, which contains the code key. Individual sources found for a specific person can be found the same way; click on the box that shows “A, N,”, etc., and then “View Comments”. The sources are there. Hope that makes sense! Let me know if that doesn’t work…
The main sources I use are Ancestry, Newspapers, and sometimes social media. A quick Google search will sometimes generate a source lead, but I mostly stick with those sources. Only because I’m most familiar with them. I’ve never used genealogybank or newspaperarchives, so those sources would be helpful.
Please feel free to post here any information you find about an existing entry or one that we could add!![]()
Huh, the comments are definitely not viewable to visitors. One second.I've tried it, but all it says to me is if I right click is: get link to cell and copy.
If I left click, I get "You are trying to edit a protected cell or object. Please contact the spreadsheet owner to remove protection if you need to edit". I select column B, line 4, for example - just making sure I'm clicking in the right place.
They are probably going to add the case to DoeNetwork with the appropriate LE contact info and then DoeNetwork will submit the case to Namus. Many years ago, anyone could submit cases to Namus (don't know if same or not now) and Namus would vet them as needed. It's much better to get the LE go-ahead prior to adding the case anywhere so the info is validated before being published. That's the biggest conundrum often with cases, especially older, and those in newspaper archives. Often LE is not even aware of the case and of course newspapers don't often carry an update after initial publication, particularly on a missing person case. Validating the case is key. This person, I contacted the detective and they responded they "submitted it to Doe Network to add to NaMus" which confused me because I thought they (LE) were supposed to have it added, not Doe Netowrk.
Both! Feel free to mark the spreadsheet if you can find proof of life for any of the listed MPs.Would you like us to research these? Or just collect right now?
Can't, I don't have permissions. I added it as a comment to the box instead, it won't let me type in the text box. It was ETB3Both! Feel free to mark the spreadsheet if you can find proof of life for any of the listed MPs.
@Keiri . I only have ancestry, and newspapers.com by subscription. I would appreciate you comments regarding the benefits and best use of the other two, if you don't mind.I was informed when i had a contact at NamUs that if they are in codis, they are automatically compared, but not NamUs.
