Yes pride. I am proud to be an American. I am proud that our military took him out (or arranged that meeting as momtective so eloquently put it).

I don't quite know about which American Holy Book you are referring to as we are a religious choice country and I, personally have never heard of an American Holy Book..

The majority of the world is not Christian and yet they may (have) the right to read here so I was trying to phrase this in terms that would be most understood.

Would it be classy to just say "Oh good, we got him and go back to our texting or playing farmville or watching our television programs" when our next door neighbor is now a single mom with children struggling to survive and with no explanation as to why daddy had to die in those towers?

Would our restraint of just staying inside and remaining calm and quiet in the wake of this glorious news show the world we are strong?

I don't think so. We are strong because we believe in our foundations, our country and we defend those against our attackers. When we take out one of our attackers, it shows our dignity in defending our beliefs.

I just heard that the Navy Seals gave Bin Laden the chance to surrender and he didn't take it. So, there ya go. Almost like a street criminal caught by the local PD - order him to put down his weapon - if he raises it - well then...........

Sounds like now it can be said - this was a self-defense killing - he was given an option.

Those Navy Seals showed more class, restraint and dignity than I've ever seen. I will applaud them and thank them for defending my children and myself and most of all, MY COUNTRY.

I am as glad as anyone that this evil man is dead. I just think that right now world leadership lies in the court of public opinion ( and no, we are not doing well - read papers and forums from other countries)

We had a real chance here.

Well, the Bible should not be referred to as the American Holy Book.

As for dignity and class. We are showing class and dignity. We are going to bury him according to his Holy Book and tradition - that is class. We are giving this "man" his dignity by allowing him to be buried in his tradition. You can't get more classy than that.

I remember when the attacks happened and being so afraid for my daughter and step-daughter that I went to their schools to immediately bring them home. They both attended school on an Air Force base. I came home and was glued to the tv while trying to get in touch with my cousin and her husband who at the time worked at the Pentagon. I have heard from friends whos sons and husbands went and fought for us over the last 10 years that have returned home with PTSD and other serious health issues. I remember the terror of wondering if it would happen again and praying that Osama would be killed so that at least we would have one less terriost to worry about. While it may not be classy or dignified I am extremely thankful and proud that this day has finally come. Some closure for those who lost loved ones for the past 10 years. I am thankful that once again America is coming together as a united country and celebrating our freedom.

I appreciate and value every american's opinion. If it makes another american sad to see the joyous outburst of relief that was impromtu by so many young Americans whom this war started for them when they were in grade school or younger then I do understand and have no argument. We are each entitled to our feelings and thoughts.

I do disagree that this makes us the same as Bin Laden. We were defending ourselves. After 9/11 there were many radical islamic clerics who vowed that they would not rest until every american was dead and that was the mantra they taught to their followers.

We did not respond by proclaiming war and deliberately waging that war against non combatants. We did create civilian casualties and I know of no one in the military community that took any joy in learning of those deaths. We instead are restricted by rules of engagement and the geneva conventions. Yes there are some soldiers in the past that have disregarded those and has paid the price with prison terms and expulsion from the armed services-dishonorable.

We will treat his body with respect. We will give him the dignity of being treated by his muslim customs.

Why? Because we are not him. We won't desecrate his body and drag his body through the streets as his followers have done to US servicepersons and if they had a chance I would not doubt for a minute they would do the same to each of us...man woman and child if given the chance.

Instead he will be treated with dignity. Why? Simply because we are Americans. That is how we roll. We didn't start this war. But we will see it through and we will end it. On our terms. Just my thoughts.

IIRC that is one of the things the Mideast accuses us of, that we want to take over the world and become "world leaders." Personally I don't want to. I just want the right to sit in my own country, live my life and see my family. I just want my country to become stable, to live in peace with all, and to help others where we can, when we can.

I am a military brat who hails from 3 branches of the military through my parents plus my own marriage.

With all due respect I say to you that if what we want is peace with the world we HAVE to begin it. We (or someone) has to be the one to initiate peace

The power in that quote doesn't come from pardoning the worthless man. the power comes from being Emperor who then, has the ability to grant the pardon.

Justice and power are two separate and distinct ideas.

I was teaching 3rd grade on that fateful day. I will never forget it. Months later, I think it was after the new year - I gave my class an assignment. They were to write about one thing, if they could go back and change what it would be and why.

I'll never forget this. Most wrote about having grandma back or a beloved pet. But this one boy. He wrote that if he could he would turn the clock back to Sept 10 so that 9/11 woulnd't have happened.

I remember crying when I read it. I took it to my principal. She cried. She forwarded it and eventually the local paper did a write up about it and the student.

I find myself sitting here tonight wondering where he is and what he is thinking about tonight - after hearing this news. He is now grown and I bet he still remembers writing that essay and his feelings at that time in his life.

Sometimes we underestimate the minds of children. I also have been a teacher. In 2007 I was a middle school librarian in a very rough inner city area. Most of the children didn't even know what 9/11 was. The 4th graders were only around 3 years old in 2001 and were never told about it. I read them books, showed them pictures, and made a bulletin board about 9/11. As I read, I glanced up and saw some very somber faces and in others I saw anger. Some of the older children were in gangs but they too were also very moved. They made dioramas, wrote poetry, and drew pictures. I know when these kids wake up tomorrow morning and hear the news they will be elated and think back to the day they learned about 9/11 in the library.
