I think he's dead too. But I do want to see the photo.

It's not like it would be the first time we were shown photos of a dead terrorist.

We saw photos of SH and his sons.

You know even with photos you will still have your skeptics. We've seen this with President Kennedy on up to Michael Jackson. What would we have to gain after nine years of searching for Osama to lie now? The people who prepared his body for burial at sea on the ship were probably high ranking Islamic officials and it was done that way for them to be eye witnesses to verify it was Osama. Even with Saddam some were still saying it was a special rope and he was not really dead , so people were tying to dig him up. That is why the Islamic people wanted no burial ground for Osama, and decided to bury him at sea.

Oh, I 100% believe he's dead. That's not what it's about to me.

Oh, they'll show it.

But again, no one has answered this: Why would any American president lie about such a thing when there is more than a huge risk that Osama would just appear on a tape somewhere going "nah nah nah nah nah" thereby destroying that president's career and reputation forever?
I've thought about that. OBL had many look-alikes. We have been fooled by a few. So, what if a "look-alike" shows up on a video somewhere claiming to be OBL and that he isn't dead? How are we going to be able to prove that it isn't the real deal?

I kinda think all hello would break loose if a new tape emerges claiming that its him and we would pay hello in trying to disprove it.

I'm sure we have very detailed records of DNA, fingerprints, etc.

The revelation that intelligence gleaned from the CIA's so-called black sites helped kill bin Laden was seen as vindication for many intelligence officials who have been repeatedly investigated and criticized for their involvement in a program that involved the harshest interrogation methods in U.S. history.

"We got beat up for it, but those efforts led to this great day," said Marty Martin, a retired CIA officer who for years led the hunt for bin Laden.
Mohammed did not reveal the names while being subjected to the simulated drowning technique known as waterboarding, former officials said. He identified them many months later under standard interrogation, they said, leaving it once again up for debate as to whether the harsh technique was a valuable tool or an unnecessarily violent tactic.

I have yet to see what you are claiming from a credible government source. Above shows the opposite. Interrogation and intelligence are not necessarily torture.

The senior administration official told reporters on Sunday that “for years, we were unable to identify his true name or his location.” It took until “four years ago” — 2007, then — for intelligence officials to learn al-Kuwaiti’s real name. By then, President Bush had ceased waterboarding and shuttered the black sites, moving the detainees within them, including Mohammed and al-Libbi, to Guantanamo Bay. In a Monday interview, Donald Rumsfeld said “normal” interrogation techniques were used at Gitmo on those detainees.

In truth, we may never know.

Why didn't they take a picture of him after they washed the body? I would think it would be a much more palpable picture. Taking pictures of the dead may be against Muslim tradition (I don't know if it is or not - just speculating) but they took that picture (the gruesome one) in the hanger right after they got back.

Most ME's clean the body before taking pictures of Jane Doe's or unidentified persons.

I would think they did. They videoed the burial - so why no picture of him after he was "cleaned up"?

I think the difference is, we despise so much of what we see in the Middle East, because of the brutality. We could in theory - turn our backs and not deal with them, and just leave them to goatherding.

They will never stop trying to conquer and destroying.

We turn our backs on plenty of other brutal atrocities.

What are we to do? Police the entire world?

We are in the middle east for a reason.

There are other ways to prove OBL is dead besides a photo that can be too easily questioned as to his identity. It's not gonna be a pretty portrait, but more 'accurate' than one of his face prior to burial and after clean-up.

I heard yesterday on teevee news (probably CNN) that there were reports he had made a tape to be released after his death. I suppose some will take from its release that he still lives.

No matter what sort of 'evidence' is publicized, some ppl will always question or deny his demise.

This discussion has certainly gone all over the map, as good ones most often do. We see many reasons for and against making the photo public, a full gamut.

Question for those who want the photo released: Will you want your children to see it too and if so, do you place any restrictions on their ages? (azif they wouldn't find/see it anyway)

Yeah, because that's where the oil is. Do you really think it's for some other reason? Human rights maybe?

We have long been an ally to Israel, yet - oil isn't the reason why.

My 13 year old was shown footage of 9/11 in all it's grusomeness (sp???) at school. She was heartbroken seeing Americans jump out of those buildings to their deaths. She was heartbroken to see all the families so distraught over the loss of their loved ones.
I don't know that I would "want" her to see brains coming out of a man's head, but she knows what's going on. If she sees it, she sees it. She knows there is evil on earth. One less evil one IMO.

War on TERROR.
WE are making progress. This week's events show that.

My 7 year old has seen pictures of the World Trade Center on 9-11. I've explained it, I explained the Osama was killed by our military - if it was on the computer and she saw it, I would be ok with that. I won't print it out and put it on the bulletin board though.

Yes, because they are THERE. We need an ally in the region. And what price have we - are we - paying for that alliance?

They are true allies to us. They need us. They are surrounded by maniacs.

I don't believe there is too great of a price -

Um, okay. It only took nearly 10 YEARS to kill the "mastermind" of 9/11. How is that progress?

LOOK at how what happened on 9/11 changed our lives forever.
