US threatens to annex Greenland - 2025/2026

I read this ....

In an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, Trump said the possible deal involves U.S. access to mineral rights, as well as collaboration on his proposed “Golden Dome” defense system.

And this .... negotiations will be kept secret. (Probably except what Trump says is happening, on Truth Social. imo)

“We are very well underway in terms of setting up a structure, a time frame, who is in them and when they’re going to meet — that channel is being decided,” the [Danish] official continued.

“The agreement we’ve made with the Americans is that we won’t be commenting on what’s going on in the room,” the official said.

I agree that Trump communicates much on social media, but his statements could be inaccurate. His tweets might be what he wishes occurred. They might be what he wishes we believe. I can't count on Trump to tell me what's happening.

Donald Trump has slammed Canada for opposing his Golden Dome defence system, warning China will “eat them up”.

“Canada is against The Golden Dome being built over Greenland, even though The Golden Dome would protect Canada,” the US President wrote on Truth Social.

“Instead, they voted in favor of doing business with China, who will ‘eat them up’ within the first year!

The US President’s Truth Social post comes after he withdrew an invitation for Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney to join his Board of Peace.

Is Canada against the "gold dome" defence system? As far as I understand, Canada has not responded to paying $71B towards the development of the idea. In June, the US Government announced that Canada will pay for the US defence project.

Seven months later, the US Government says that Canada is against paying for the US project. The US Government is also saying that Canada is interfering with the governance of the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland regarding paying for the US defence project.

Which is it? Has Canada not given an answer, is Canada in favour of paying for the project (allegedly 06/25), or has Canada said no (allegedly 01/26)? Is Canada telling Greenland and Denmark what to do, or is the US Government making false claims about Canada? Does Canada have a history of interfering with the governance of Greenland? Does the Kingdom of Denmark ask Canada for advice?

I think what we are seeing a US Government that is intimidated and angered by Canada refusing to obey, and especially for Canada's Davos comments about middle powers unifying to form a major power. As a result, the US Government is releasing false statements about Canada regarding Greenland. The US Government appears to be lashing out emotionally and thoughtlessly. The US Government appears desperate to undermine Canada.

When the US Government is emotionally upset with Canada, the Prime Minister is labelled "governor". Prime Minister Carney was the Governor of the Bank of Canada, and the Governor of the Bank of England. If Trump does not understand that the former Governor is now a Prime Minister, then he should see a doctor.

"U.S. President Donald Trump says Canada will soon pay to join the Golden Dome project, a tab he projected at $71 billion. ... “They want to be in. $71 billion,” Trump said, using a number higher than the $61 billion he has previously pegged as the price tag of Canada’s participation in the Golden Dome."

June 2025

Canada is against The Golden Dome being built over Greenland, even though The Golden Dome would protect Canada. Instead, they voted in favor of doing business with China, who will ‘eat them up’ within the first year!” the U.S. president wrote on Truth Social."

""China will eat Canada alive, completely devour it, including the destruction of their businesses, social fabric, and general way of life," Trump said. ... If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a 'Drop Off Port' for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken," the U.S. president wrote in his post."

The US Government seems to trade in fear. The people of Greenland are afraid because the US Government has repeated declared that there is a deal with Mark Rutte for the US to get what it wants in Greenland ... and infinity. The people of Canada are supposed to be afraid because the US Government is threatening 100% tariffs unless Canada obeys the US Government and allows the US Government to dictate economic trade in Canada.

When the US Government turns to threats, intimidation, and issuing false claims about foreign countries, we need to question the cause. Why is the US Government trying to scare and unsettle foreign countries? What's the end game?

Is the goal to rile up the US population so they are afraid, agitated, and living a constant state of victimhood from foreigners? Is the goal to cause confusion and anger between foreign countries? Does the US Government believe everything they say, or is propaganda a useful weapon?

"Mr. Trump said Wednesday night on social media that a “framework of a future deal” had been reached, one that did not resemble full American ownership. Instead, speaking on Air Force One on Thursday, he floated the idea of what sounded like a lease for expanded military bases in Greenland in which “the time limit is infinity” and “we can do anything we want,” including to support the Golden Dome, his ambitious missile defense plan."

The Whitehouse has released a false image of the US President with a penguin walking towards the Greenland flag. Is the US planning to introduce penguins to Greenland? This is from the Whitehouse - the symbol of democracy in the United States - and the message is threat.

This article asks the question many are asking: Why does the US Government create so much drama? What has gone wrong in the United States for the country to thrive on drama and threatening emotional currency?

"Even by President Trump’s own mercurial standards, his whipsawing over the past few weeks on Greenland — insisting on the largest land acquisition in American history and then dropping it without explanation, threatening allies and then reversing himself — was a remarkable and revealing exercise in a new era of American coercive diplomacy.
...

The president was clearly testing the boundaries of the Atlantic alliance, arguing that handing over the land was a small price for lesser powers to pay for continued American protection ... a formula that leans heavily on bullying and an ability to keep opponents off-balance. ... By the time the president returned to Washington on Thursday night, it was clear that he had left considerable damage to the Western alliance in his wake.
...

By the end of the week, Mr. Trump’s European allies were all asking versions of the same questions: Why did Mr. Trump create so much drama, only to back away? In the end, was the possible reward worth the risks?"
