UT UT - Alisa Petrov,15, from So Jordan, left school in American Fork, took UTA train to Provo, asked multiple for help to get to Las Vegas, 21 Apr 2025

I work in a high school and the fact that a 15-year-old girl was involved in these types of conversations surprises me not at all. At this age, they have adult thoughts and think they are adults, but only in hindsight do we realize just how young we were at that age.
Totally agree. Maybe not all 15 year old girls are taking about sex, but it's not uncommon at all. I do think most girls are talking about it with peers closer to their own age though. But yeah, 15-year-olds totally think they are ready to be 21-year-olds for sure. Hope she is safe.

I don't think this is abnormal either, teens actually start to be interested earlier than 15. What's abnormal is a 15-year-old girl having these conversations with several adult males. It's not her fault though, they should've never participated in those conversations.

It is possible people thought she was older when she asked for help purchasing a ticket. At least what I have read, it is very vague. I know as I age, everyone under 25 or so looks REALLY young to me. Especially if she was wearing make up, and out in public at a time when younger kids/teens would reasonably be expected to be in school, my brain might register she was 18 or 19.

We also do not know what "asked for help" means. Did she flat out ask someone to purchase the ticket FOR her, or was it more general? I wouldn't call the police if a young person was confused about how to buy a bus or train ticket. That seems pretty ordinary to me. Who knows what she might have told them as well? She could have lied and said she had to meet a family member, had an appointment, and interview, who really knows?

It is clear she is young, but she also doesn't look 12, kwim?

Walking in and out of school grounds is a different story. They're responsible for kids in their care. I know where I live some schools will allow seniors, and occasionally juniors, in good standing to sign out for lunch or leave early if they have completed academic classes for the day, but that is not what happened here.

About the adults, it is for the future, for the community to discuss. I bet the community is shocked, but the question is, how to make our towns safer if there are so many pedophiles and creeps around?

About the school: hard to remember how middle school was, but if I remember, we the parents signed the kids in. In high school, they’d do it themselves so all you did was to see that your kid walked into school. But either way, there is a front office and the kid can’t walk past it. So I assume, the same happened here, she walked in, signed herself, spoke to kids but then, walked out through the opposite door to the store. She was seen there. I assume she did not return to school.

So I think that the most common mistake would be teachers assuming that Alisa is absent, that she didn’t show up and the front office had called the parents. From the front office viewpoint, she did sign herself in, so she was in school.

So a gap somewhere, no doubt, but it could have been filled in by her friend with one question, where is Alisa? If not in class, then during lunch break for sure, you’d think.

That the question was not asked makes me wonder whether she did have friends to care about her? What about “the bestie”? If not, why? Does it indicate some vulnerability that was allowed to fall through the cracks? Or did she use to have friends but recently drifted away from them, because she was overwhelmed with these adult pedophiles online? Where, essentially, things go wrong?

A 41-year-old Herriman man was allegedly in contact with a teenage South Jordan girl before she disappeared last month, according to a search warrant served this week.

According to the warrant, Petrov asked the man to "kidnap her," and provided him with locations where she was going to be. Petrov referred to him as "daddy" multiple times, the documents show, and that conversations between the two were "sexual in nature."

Messages between Petrov and the man were exchanged approximately eight days before she went missing.

the two spoke via the Discord app.

It is 21 minutes by car. And South Jordan is a safe place with high living standards as I read per demographics. Isn’t is scary that a quiet, probably well adjusted pedophile is living less that 30 minutes from your child?

OK, I have to ask: Those who feel her home life may have been an issue, why would the iPad still have been in the home if this was the case? If an adult was sending messages or somehow involved on her end, that seems really odd to me. Wouldn't they have gotten rid of it? Am I overlooking something?

I'm shocked by her asking the one guy to k*nap her and her calling him D*ddy, and so on. The really graphic nature of scenarios we are hearing of as this continues to unfold doesn't strike me as the kind of thing a typical 15 year-old girl would know about either, but the world is a strange place these days.

That is why I was wondering if her alleged interest in forensics found her learning about some dark stuff, and got her into a mess? I've 100% learned some new and highly disturbing things during my time on WS. I'd hate to think about any kids sneaking around forums like this one. And this is well moderated, I'm sure there are places out there, things on YouTube, etc.....I don't really want to know myself.

But I DO wonder if it started with her thinking she was a sleuth or something? Because it really does NOT make sense how she would just find an old iPad and suddenly be engaged in extremely hardcore situations with multiple middle aged men? One guy who was a smooth talker? OK, but this is all just....shocking. :( Poor girl.

I think her home life was no more of an issue than that of any other Zoomer living in a good family. Her dad looks like a typical IT guy, mom is soft, they definitely take a good care of kid, there are relatives and a certain community. Do we always understand our kids? No. Do kids living in good, well-off, caring families, cut themselves? For sure. There are theories what cutting represents, it is all being studied. Alisa doesn’t appear too mature to me, tbh, I think there might be something there. But my inner feeling is, neither parents nor the girl are to be blamed here. These guys online …who are definitely not kids, they are in their 30es and 40es, they are fully responsible for what happened to her IMHO. Some of them are parents, too. There are enough ways to get relaxed online without luring real people into it, sorry. There are enough sex addiction groups to attend. Even if neither met up with her, they fully set up the situation for her disappearance! And now this sleazebag blames it on the kid’s family life and her emotional issues (cutting)??

OK, in hindsight, maybe the parents missed something, maybe they should have taken her to a therapist. We all do. But tbh, it might have not prevented anything. She was groomed and lured by several adult perverts who should have known better.

About kidn@@@@@g. I read on “the usual social media” that there is a new trend on TikTok among kids. Has anyone heard of it?

Here's a breakdown on the three dirt bags and their statuses:

1) Matthew Nicholas Menard, 35, from Miami - NOT IN CUSTODY
- Charged last week with two counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, enticement of a minor, and three counts of criminal solicitation
- Police detailed in affidavits the disturbing messages between Alisa and Menard dating back to January 17.
- Discussed plans to meet Alisa in Las Vegas while he was there on a business trip, and from there fly to Los Angeles, then his home in Miami.
- Police don't believe Alisa actually ever met Menard
- Police seized his phone at his home in Miami on April 30
- South Jordan Police, which is leading the case, told DailyMail.com that Menard was not on the run, but refused to say why he wasn't in custody, despite a no-bail warrant being filed by the Utah Attorney General.

2) William Taylor Glines, 37, from Texas City, Texas - IN CUSTODY
- Arrested in Texas City on May 8 and remains in custody charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, attempted aggravated exploitation of a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, enticement of a minor, and criminal solicitation.
- He was also charged by police in Texas with possessing more than 50 child sexual abuse images or videos. He is yet to enter a plea.
- The probable cause affidavit detailed disturbing conversations between Glines and Alisa, including how he allegedly convinced he to send nude photos and videos.

3) Samuel Mitchell, 41, from Herriman, Utah (only streets away from Alisa's home in South Jordan), is now under investigation. NOT IN CUSTODY
- Police allegedly found inappropriate messages between the pair on Alisa's iPad, exchanged through Discord and Snapchat, and filed for a search warrant. No charges filed at this time.
-Alisa asked Mitchell to 'kidnap' her while she was on a family ski trip, and revealed she was running away from home two days before she went missing.
- Mitchell 'got sick' and canceled plans to meet with Alisa.

I have a thought.

Some of them perhaps were in it “for themselves”. But Glines from TX, he is a criminal, has been in jail for pedophilia, has tons of CSAM…could he sell her name to someone? He could have even done it when arrested, because he knows he is in for a long time and being a jailbird, he knows the ways to send information. I am more concerned about him having a “network” if you know what I mean. People with CSAM usually do.

Menard’ tech bro could have potentially logged into his cloud, you know?

I am concerned that a larger group could be involved.

How did Alisa end up in phone conversations with not just one, but two child molesters ?

Did Menard and Glines know each other? Was there some disgusting forum they had in common? Alisa sounds like she may be at risk from not just either of these two criminals, but even more men.
It doesn't seem like she took steps to stop talking to them, so the logical conclusion is that she was available to be found and was probably talking to many men. There need be no more disgusting a forum than Facebook or Instagram. IMO

I have dual feeling about it
I feel that the police has an idea whom Alisa may be with, but not where

At the same time, the father's plea sounds slightly hopeless.

Will you please clarify what you mean by signing in? I was born and raised in Michigan. No schools I am aware of had parents sign in their children, except for preschool. There was no sign out (except for preschool). I am a teacher in southern California. Students are not signed in by parents but TK or K students are signed out. After K, there is not signing out. Am I misunderstanding what you mean?

At all schools I am familiar with in MI and CA, you can enter campus from multiple gates. None of them require students to pass through the office. A student would not be indicated as present or missing until attendance is taken upon the start of class.

In my school district and the neighboring district, middle school and high school students are marked as absent when they do not show up to class. Attendance is supposed to be taken and entered within the first 15 minutes of the period. An automated system notifies parents when students are marked absent or tardy. I do not know if this is the same system Alisa's school uses.

It is like how you explained in Colorado public schools too.

Wait a moment, I am sure that we signed them in but maybe it was for tardies. (We had a lot of them one year when HS decided to start an hour later to provide more sleep for the teenagers but forgot about middle school. So the traffic was horrendous and everyone accumulated a lot of tardies.) I totally forgot about tardies. Let me ask him.

If the teacher responds to presence/absence, then it really makes no sense that she fell through the cracks. How? Especially in middle school.
