I find your 4 categories slightly simplistic (with no offence to you personally). There are many more possible reasons, starting from pure disillusionment, maybe desperation due to the state of current affairs (probably fuelled by social media algorithms), perhaps he wanted to be a “hero” of sorts, maybe it was beef with his family, maybe it was “for the lolz”.
Sure, we can boil it down to mental illness and/or pure evil, but humans are complex creatures and I feel like part of the problem the society in general is facing right now are the attempts to condense everything into an us vs them, left vs right, black vs white mentality. We don’t know the true motives till we learn them over the course of the investigation.
They are deliberately simplistic and vague as they are meant to be broadest categories. Most of the ones you listed could be described as a subcategory; disillusionment can lead to nihilism, desperation about current affairs, wanting to be a hero, or family beef all sounds likely ideologically related. If the 'hero' aspect isn't a desire for fame/infamy.

So refreshing to see some facts about the shooter! He is the son of a conservative sheriff, he grew up around guns, and he disagreed with Kirk's message.

"Robinson, a white male from Washington, Utah, is a third-year student in Dixie Technical College's electrical apprenticeship program. He was not a student at Utah Valley University.

Robinson's parents are Amber Jones Robinson and Matt Robinson. Both are registered Republicans, according to public records reviewed by Newsweek.
...

"Raised in the stereotypical All-American white conservative family with a sheriff for a father, Tyler grew up around guns and knew how to use them.
... Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief of Meidas Touch, wrote on X: "So ... we find out it's a white guy from a Republican family in Utah who loved guns."
...

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said during a press conference that a family member of Tyler was interviewed by investigators, saying that he had become more political in recent years. That family member said Tyler said he did not like Kirk and the viewpoints he held, according to the governor."

The father being in law enforcement has been retracted I believe.

"Early reports indicated that he was a veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, but the Washington County Attorney's office said that reporting was not accurate and that Robinson does not have ties to local law enforcement."

Maybe just maybe his family was in agreement with Charlie Kirk, it was said that when tyler was spewing all the hate towards Charlie that the friend was turned off, maybe others were turned off as well.

Could be why it was not so hard for the father to do what he did, how can you trust someone like that to not turn on you.

What does everyone think about VaaS, "Violence-as-a-service"? Internationally it is becoming a huge problem. In some countries it is now being used for political radicalization. Places in Europe and other countries have task forces to combat it and try and get a handle on it but its being coming a huge problem. Do you think this could have played a part?
I haven't heard that term before, I'll have to do some reading about it!

More info suggesting it may be ideologically motivated in addition to the supposed comments at the family dinner. This time accounting for the fact the parents seems Republican leaning.

"A neighbour tells the BBC’s US partner CBS News: “They are very supportive parents who loved their boys and involved in the community.”

The neighbour also sensed he had different politics than his parents."

So the kid used a gun that he may have taken from or perhaps obtained from his law enforcement dad, and now dad stands to collect $100,000? What’s wrong with this picture?
Where exactly did I imply what you are saying?

Agreed. I'm far far more disturbed about the mass shooters. i can never.forget that one of those Sandy Hook 6 year olds was shot 11 times. People in malls, churches, rock concerts.

Before someone accuses me of being in favor of political assassinations, obviously I'm not. I just don't see an end to historic targeted political killings.

But we have the means to prevent the mass shootings and we don't.
In your opinion, what means is there to prevent the mass shootings that is not being used??

Possibly this would fit. Shooting Charlie in the throat in front of thousands of young people who most looked up to. I think this could be called a heinous, cruel, depraved act. "the actor committed homicide in an especially heinous, atrocious, cruel, or exceptionally depraved manner, any of which must be demonstrated by physical torture, serious physical abuse, or serious bodily injury of the deceased individual before death;"
Adding, I quoted Cedars post on what the Governor may be charging him with but not seeing the quote, sorry. I need to figure out how to quote somebodies previous post.

How do you sense how someone feels about politics if he didn't actually say anything about it?

Are you sure he had visibility behind the tent? Rule #4 of firearm safety.View attachment 614235

Edit: Also I'm not sure that having a clear line of sight to Charlie means he didn't create great risk of death to another individual.
I'd say shooting someone in a crowd of up to 3,000 people sure could cause others to panic and run, trample, or injure others as they are trying to flee the area.

Great points.

I'd like to add, I have not seen any information regarding the recovery of the bullet. Meaning it could have fragmented after it hit CK. Or kept going. Or perhaps it remained in his body until removed at autopsy.

Holy moly. Reads like a manifesto.

As a 69-year-old who plays on Switch (Zelda TOTK and BOTW), World of Warcraft (fantasy MMORPG), and Steam (No Man's Sky, Baldur's Gate 3), I know that when I play for long stretches at a time, I'll dream about a game's scenery sometimes. Dreams can also unfold as quests or battles. Falling into the rabbit hole of Helldivers-type game would affect anyone's senses, especially someone so young. I see games as games, but some kids may see games as reality.
Helldivers 2 is very tongue in cheek though; think like the Starship Troopers 'federal network' broadcasts. 'Democratic' but with satire fascistic elements.

Agree
Which rule of firearm safety is not to discharge a high powered rifle aimed towards an innocent person surrounded by thousands of other innocent people? Should be rule #1. To suggest that he didn't put bystanders at risk is preposterous, IMHO

Maybe he did say things that could infer a political view, passing comments, maybe it was something in his habits or interests. Hard to say, but as a neighbor he almost certainly had some exposure to the guy.

Dad turned in his son knowing he'll get the death penalty. Cold as ice, damn.

Doing the right thing even when it feels entirely wrong isn't cold.

It's painfully honorable.

I admire his dad, not just for turning his son in, but for apparently enlisting the help of a pastor as well.

I hope his dad gets plenty of support from family, friends, his church, and his co-workers.

It doesn't move the needle for me about what should happen to the murderous son, but I do feel badly for the father.

'Investigation doesn’t stop,' says public safety commissioner

Regan Morris
Reporting from Utah

Beau Mason

I run into Commissioner Beau Mason of the Utah Department of Public Safety outside the crime scene cordon at Utah Valley University.

When asked for more details about Tyler Robinson’s movements between here and his family’s home in southern Utah, Mason says they are writing and executing search warrants to “put the puzzle together”.

Mason, who was appointed in June, doesn’t give details of where they plan to search but says we’ll probably hear the results on Tuesday, when the Utah County Attorney’s Office will hold a press briefing about planned charges.

“Now that we have him in custody, the investigation doesn’t stop,” he says.

Yeah, given the distance he was shooting from, I don't think a prosecutor will have any trouble arguing that he could easily have hit someone other than his intended target

So do you think the father deserves the $100,000 reward?

Dad was NOT law enforcement.
