Helldivers 2 is very tongue in cheek though; think like the Starship Troopers 'federal network' broadcasts. 'Democratic' but with satire fascistic elements.

Thanks for the clarification. I don't do first-person shooters or war games, so if it's that type of game, it wouldn't be on my radar.

Doing the right thing even when it feels entirely wrong isn't cold.

It's painfully honorable.

I admire his dad, not just for turning his son in, but for apparently enlisting the help of a pastor as well.

I hope his dad gets plenty of support from family, friends, his church, and his co-workers.

It doesn't move the needle for me about what should happen to the murderous son, but I do feel badly for the father.
It reminded me of the deal Ted Kaczynski's brother made to take the death penalty off the table.

Suspect's high school friend says Robinson was the only 'leftist' in a family of 'very hard' Republicans

Anna Betts

Anna Betts
In a phone interview on Friday, one of Tyler Robinson’s high school friends, who asked to remain anonymous, said that the suspect was “pretty left on everything”and was “the only member of his family that was really leftist”.

“The rest of his family was very hard Republican,”
the friend said.

Around sophomore year, the friend said, Robinson became more extreme in his political views and would “always just be ranting and arguing about them”.

The friend said that they played video games together a lot in high school and noted that the bullet engraving with the arrows was a reference to Helldivers 2 – which we mentioned earlier. He said that the arrows specifically were in reference to “calling in a big bomb that exists” in the game “called the 500 kilogram”.

When the friend saw the news on Friday, he said that he was shocked. “I knew he [Robinson] had strong political views, but I never thought it would even go near that far.”

This happened at my campus… We are all in shock. I haven't had time to read the stuff about this event here as I have been volunteering to help at UVU during this time, so forgive me if the following has already been said. I do not think this post should be controversial yet I fear it will be even though I am presenting nothing but facts while maintaining empathy for this tragedy.

What happened is a tragedy, and my heart goes out to Charlie Kirk and his family. He did not deserve what happened to him. No one deserves such a fate.

What I am about to share is about Kirk's life, NOT about his death. I'm firmly in the camp that this should not have happened, no matter what.

This post is about how I want to respond to a narrative I’m seeing everywhere right now, especially across social media and news outlets, suggesting that Charlie was killed because he was outspoken about his conservative values.

As someone who’s lived in this community and been aware of Charlie Kirk’s platform for a long time, I feel pretty confident saying the overwhelming dislike of CK from many communities is not about him “being conservative.”

Charlie Kirk didn’t build his brand on calm policy discussion or thoughtful disagreement.

Kirk built a public career around provoking outrage, not offering respectful political dialogue. His entire brand centered on targeting vulnerable groups, often by going to college campuses like mine and saying things that were cruel, dismissive, or deliberately inflammatory, not as policy discussion, but as spectacle.

At campus events and Turning Point USA conferences, Charlie Kirk has:
  • Mocked trans students, calling gender identity “a delusion” and refusing to use students' pronouns when asked, even while looking them in the eye. He once told a trans student during a live event, “I won’t participate in your fantasy.”
  • Told a Muslim student during a debate that Islam is the most violent religion in the world and refused to acknowledge her points on peaceful Islamic practice. He also tweeted: “Islam is the sword the left is using to slit the throat of America.”
  • Laughed at a student in tears who asked about LGBTQ suicide rates, responding by saying, That’s not my problem — I don’t make people kill themselves.”
  • Referred to peaceful protesters as “violent, ungrateful brats” and said that undocumented students should be “deported on the spot”
These aren’t misquotes or exaggerations — many of these clips are on YouTube and circulated widely in student communities. He wanted to provoke this kind of attention. A month or so ago, I was part of a group of concerned students who were respectfully advocating to get his event cancelled before it could happen, due to the kind of hateful rhetoric he would spread.

Let me be clear again: No one deserves to die violently let alone violently and publicly, and I pray for peace and healing for his loved ones. Simultaneously, I believe that how someone dies should not erase accountability for how they lived.

There’s a lot of danger in sanitizing a public figure’s legacy just because their death was tragic. We can mourn a life lost while still being honest about the harm that person caused while they were here.

Charlie Kirk wasn’t hated for just being conservative. He was disliked and even feared because of how he spoke to and about people. Because of how he chose cruelty over compassion. That is not a left or right issue. That’s basic humanity.

I agree here. It sounds like the son saying he'd rather harm himself, so the dad calls a trusted third party to "help" vs forcing him or pushing him further at that moment. Then they were able to talk to him and get to a resolution. It shows care for his son AND for the law he swore to uphold.

He is 22, should live for another 60/70 years, if i had a choice of 60/70 years in a cell or execution i would choose the latter any day

So do you think the father deserves the $100,000 reward?
It's my opinion the dad is not going to want the reward. We have no evidence he has even asked about it.

Based on the timing of this, I am going to guess dad wasn't even thinking about a reward. He saw the newly released video, he recognized his son, he asked him about it, the son admitted to it. It sounds like from the info released so far, it happened fast, and dad didn't sit on info waiting for a reward to be offered.

IMO electricians are in very high demand, earn very well, and will always have work, whereas quite a few University grads are struggling to find a job. This guy had almost made it, studying/apprenticing in what's now being seen as a dream career for many.

So what has really gone wrong with him?
His online activity will likely provide most of the answers to that question.

We've reached a point as a society where the negative impacts of technology far outweigh the benefits.

And there's no putting the evil genie back in the bottle.

A poster has mentioned that Tyler has been raised LDS (I am not certain of the MSM source however) , so if his Stake or even higher leader is helping the family I feel more hopeful that the family will get support from his community.
moo, since I do not know explicit MSM source.

I very much doubt the father will accept the reward should it be offered to him...

If he gets the death penalty he will be in solitary confinement until they execute him which could take up to forty years. He will mostly have to be in his small cell with nothing else to do. I don't know, suicide may have been a better option for him but I can understand why his Father had him turn himself in.

just wanted to correct something that I posted earlier today either in this or the previous thread. I shared a link that stated TR's father was a 27 year veteran LEO. That link was incorrect and so I feel it's important to link correction of that info:

Matt Robinson is a registered Republican, according to public records reviewed by Newsweek. Early reports indicated that he was a veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, but the Washington County Attorney's office said that reporting was not accurate and that Robinson does not have ties to local law enforcement.

"The individual arrested is NOT related to Washington County law enforcement! There are multiple people with the same names," the attorney's office said in a statement posted to Facebook.
Who is Tyler Robinson's father? Matt Robinson helped turn in Kirk suspect

Evidently he parked his car in that neighborhood.

Thank you Ticya,
Very conscientious of you.

The British publication Daily Mail (& of course I can't find the link now) has said explicitly, that Matt Robinson works in Construction.

I will keep looking.

Maybe someone else will find it quicker.

(MOO/pure speculation)

True. I feel many of these young men are lost, immature, aimless and think it's all a movie or video game. JMO MOO
Unless a shooter suffers from schizophrenia or is in a psychotic state or plan on killing themselves or be killed by LE I can't get my head around the fact that they don't comprehend it's only a matter of time until they're caught and will most likely spend the rest of their life in prison w/o parole and/or face the death penalty.

There are teens and young men who idolize convicted shooters yet ignore that they're either dead or won't ever see the light of day again.
imo
