Agreed. Had to be familiar with the campus to get to where he did, and also to get out of there how he did.
I am curious if any video footage shows him at this location in the days prior maybe doing a dry run or looking at various rooftops and how to best enter/exit the area? We know the guy who attempted to assassinate President Trump went there prior also.

What kind of rifle was it? I can't recall but is it one that can be taken apart and then assembled? <modsnip: no link> My first thought was he staged that rifle earlier ( overnight maybe ). Again just a thought.

An imported .30-06-caliber Mauser rifle — found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near the Orem campus — is believed to be the murder weapon, according to a memo put out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

He must have practiced this, perhaps without sunglasses. I am sure they are going back through any available video from the past couple of weeks. He has been there before, he timed how long it took and did that escape route, perhaps in a more identifiable way.

According to ABC News, the Mauser .30-06 caliber bolt action rifle that was found in a wooded area near the UVU campus was wrapped in a towel -- I wonder what the purpose of the towel was? Was it intended to conceal the weapon? Was it used to try and wipe off prints?

What happened to the description of the shooter is all black tactical clothing? The photo being shown doesn't even resemble the description, nor does it resemble the shooter on the roof.

i feel like every time there is a shooting in the US the initial reports are of a suspect in all black with possible tactical gear or body armor

Great questions.

I'm wondering at this point in time could he be well out of the area, with some help?

It doesn’t seem that the current state of affairs would indicate suicide.

Now that US Marshalls have joined the FBI I am hoping for an arrest but still worried.

I know those more knowledgeable about gun proficiency than I am have said this was a very "doable" shot for someone with average-to-better shooting skills and particularly with the use of an optic, but I am still amazed that this wouldn't require a more professionally-trained shooter. But I also think that preparation and practice can improve the odds of success for an average to better shooter.

I wonder whether this shooter attended any previous Kirk events, to get a sense of the typical setup. So knew in advance there would likely be a canopy overhead, Kirk would be seated (thus making a smaller overall target and also a target that is not moving around much), and those event attendees who were at the microphone asking Kirk questions would be off to one side, rather than in front of Kirk.

I just can't get past it that it would have just taken one little drone to scope out those roof tops.

They have no idea who he is, he could have grabbed an uber to the airport and be sipping beer in a bar in Thailand.

Don't know if you have watched Charlies' interactions with college students but it has always been a tent or just him sitting in a chair with a microphone and students asking him questions.

We do not want to post random pictures of people who look like the suspect. Can you imagine if we are wrong? Innocent people being accused of being the shooter? Please only post pictures from msm or law enforcement sources. Thank you

I don't see suicide with this guy.
We would have heard something by now.
IMO.

Much earlier today they were scouring a particular neighborhood near the campus, talking to residents and asking for home surveillance video. ( believe it was indicated he went in that direction)
I guess nothing has come from that since nothing more has been reported from that.
If the suspect lived there, or was hiding there, I'd think they would have found him by now.

His escape route was to a subdivision adjacent to campus. If he took an Uber, there would be easily obtainable records to that. If he parked a car there, I'll bet plenty of people have Ring doorbell footage of the car and his escape.

I think he will be arrested soon. The $100,000 bounty on his head will definitely speed tips up.

Well, that was obvious he had something in his pants or a serious limp due to a medical condition in the before video.

He seemed to be running on the rooftop after he took his shot per the zoomed in video of the shooting.

I wonder if it tells them anything about the use of the gun?

Maybe tell them if he's right or left handed? I don't know, wondered the same. You can estimate height from forearm length using specific formulas.
The palm print they got is more interesting to me.

The thing that makes me pause on whether or not this was "professional" or not is that fact that the sniper only took one shot. Usually the perpetrator is indiscriminately spraying bullets until he's taken out. Seems too "lucky" for the gunman to have one shot and succeed without some level of training.

I can see suicide. So many of them are cowards, at the heart of it. He left a gun with prints (which means DNA) and wasn't wearing gloves in the photos. I hope they contacted Othram!!! 😁

Certainly his friends and family recognized him from the photos and they would have known he was kind of "off". He can't be sitting all normal at the dinner table with other people right now, right?!? Unless the people he sits with are clueless. To be fair, my mom would not know what the suspect looked like, if I asked her. But it seems SOMEONE in his world has seen the news and would recognize him. He will be identified before too long.

200 yards is a tough shot but with a bit of training and practice it becomes routine. Having a stationery target directly in front of you does make it easier.

There are countless CK videos all over the internet to get a feel for the setup.

Someone familiar with campus would know likely know how and where to set up a sniper's nest vs someone following CK around.
