I'm thinking they are lightweight so perhaps easier in that sense - easier to move quickly in his agile moves?

jmopinion
I'm thinking he wears them a lot, they're his preferred shoe. Not just something he chose as a costume for this, because they wouldn't be comfortable at all imo if you weren't used to doing athletic stuff in them. My experience only, but I normally lift in them, then swap to running shoes for cardio, and when I forget that second pair, my normal run or plyo is really jolting and immediately tiring for my knees and ankles.

I think it looks like he might have hurt his right leg (either ankle or knee) when he landed after dropping from the ledge / parapet. His first step or two he seems to wobble, with weakness in that right leg.

Jmo
I wonder if he could of went to a hospital.

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed as a DBM> It was just so brazen and risky to jump off the roof like that. Someone could have noticed, and there were a couple of people walking nearby.
That's why I could hardly believe it.
I guess walking back down to a floor and out was more risky.

Good point HMS Hood,

If the drop from the roof injured him, then

a) escaping with the rifle became too burdensome, so he improvised, and got rid of it in the woods where it was found, (but that wasn't the original plan), and
b) escaping to safety & medical care at a nearby hospital would be a lousy idea for him, as it is likely that LE has alerted all the hospitals within a radius of 500 miles.

Moo/pure speculation

I agree he hurt his right leg. Also, the rifle he is carrying and its concealed under a dark towel. Black, dark blue, etc.

I'm wondering if he didn't escape via airplane and is no longer in the area. What is the closest airport? Ditching the gun close to the scene seems odd unless he knew he absolutely had to. Jmo

Really wondering what he did with the gun while he was escaping. Obviously took it off the roof with him since it was found in the woods. Did he just stuff it down his pants? No clue how he would be running like that and how it wouldn’t have just fallen out. But that backpack definitely looks too small for that gun
I see him running with a black bag. When he gets to the roof edge he lays it down, dangles off the roof, grabs the bag, and drops off. You can kind of see it when he runs.

And good observation on him being left handed. I agree based on which hand he is holding on with.
Where I come from we don’t jump off rooftops, but get pretty good in trees. As a righty if I’m letting go one-handed the strong preference is the left hand. Same with most righty gymnasts FWIW.

Yes it is. I hadn't seen this far distance video, the ones I saw were up close and personal, and surreal. It may be that Tricia is planning to post those at a later date.
I would hope not. :(

A Utah Valley University student told CNN on Thursday night he saw a man walking on or near the roof of the Losee Center twice in the last two weeks.

The student described the man as a “tall, skinny-ish white dude [who] had dark hair. He had this backpack on and was wearing dark clothes.” He added that the man was looking down at the courtyard area where Kirk’s speaking engagement was later held.

He said a professor also noticed the man on the roof and called out to him. According to the student, the professor asked, “Hey, man, are you doing all right?” and the man on the roof “just kind of dismissed what he said.”

I'm thinking he is a quiet type, fwiw. He seems self-disciplined. Just the impression I get.
Agree with the latter. Seems more like a Luigi type than a super outspoken political activist.

I'm sure others have noted, but going up the stairs, no long gun. Jumping off roof, no long gun. Who brought the gun to the roof? Who later took it to the wooded area, if POI didn't? Also, guy looks suspiciously weak.

Salt Lake City, is an easy place to get lost, I-15 north and south, I-80, east, west. Can be in a car, and anywhere. Get lost in a small town in Nevada, or Montana. Looks like any number of kids in college. Blend in. Even Las Vegas or Denver, so many places.

My wild guess (COMPLETE SPECULATION) as to one possible immediate escape route on foot.

Guessing he dumped the rifle in the woods below the map marker for UVU ROTC, and that he was then perhaps caught on cctv in the backyard which is across the street from the house located just above "800 W" (so, he would have still been in the trapezoid shape bordered by Campus, 800 W, 800 S, and S 725 W St. He may have even exited that block near the woods located just above the abbreviated 750 W drive (idk how old this GE image is.., there could be a house or two there now).

I believe a security camera mounted in the brick gable above the 3 garage doors on that house just above the W in "800 W" was retrieved by authorities (see link below)
