I don't see any gun when he jumps off the roof. How does it them end up in the woods? I think it was planted there before. The used rifle is still up on that roof hidden somewhere.

Iirc Luigi was actually caught because he showed his face when he flirted with a hotel clerk. They needed his face, and then subsequently he was recognized some days later in a diner. I do not remember how authorities pinpointed the hotel though....video maybe during his escape from the site of his shooting?
Yes. They tracked his movements backwards to the hotel, and then had a starting point to find more video (he had to come and go from there each day).

That hotel video and the taxi cab photo ultimately did him in. The sunglasses are a problem here though, and he may not have taken them off at any point. Still, someone should recognize him.

This guy will be caught. The T-shirt and backpack have been identified off Amazon. The Hat came off the NST website or a select outdoor retailer like backcountry.com. Combine that with his general young age, physical height and general weight that can be deduced from the photos/video, and either a hunting or military background. That builds a pretty specific profile and they have the general look of his face from more than one angle and the murder weapon too. Even if they didn't find DNA they'd still find them I'm pretty sure. Just a matter of time and collecting all the data and information.

I don't think this shooter was paid, was part of any organization, or had any help whatsoever. History tells us he's going to be a lone wolf, with his own motivations for doing this. I think what is unusual is his level of planning. He knew exactly where he would have a clear line of sight, and seemed to be cognizant of security cameras. That hat and sunglasses also served to make him less identifiable to people who know him.

I keep coming back to Luigi Mangione, as they both demonstrated meticulous planning, had an entry and egress route, but were sloppy when it came to leaving evidence behind.

Luigi left his phone and a backpack (among other mistakes), while this guy left his gun.

This simply is not a crime you have any reasonable expectation of getting away with, as cameras are certain to nail you. Maybe he knew that, and he was just trying to buy time.
Seems lots of similarities. Are him and Luigi part of some (internet/dark web) club? A copycat or inspiration?

Are these attacks the new trend (bad word but I feel these attackers are blind followers) since media has gotten better at not making school shooters "famous"? Or is it "us vs them" motivation and political? Scary times. MOO JMO

there were some reports that the found rifle had inscribed bullets, and then those reports were sort of walked back and de-emphasized:

(what a messy link) If there was an intent to leave inscribed bullets as a message, he would need to leave them somewhere to be found. I guess LE would know from ballistics that the gun they found was the weapon used. I did wonder at first if there could be multiple weapons.

Pretty sure this is the gun, wrapped in a dark towel. (circled in red, and presuming it is the towel around it)
If you watch the video in this link, you can see him put it down as he gets ready to jump off the roof, then he picks it up and jumps down with it.

I wonder if the forearm "print" from the building is a possible location of DNA

Jmo
He wasn't wearing gloves, and he had to shimmy down and hang to shorten the drop. I'd be shocked if there wasn't a DNA trace on that ledge or on the murder weapon.

He apparently left a screwdriver as well. DNA everywhere.

Is the news that a person of interest has been identified old news or is it still true?

I don't know if anyone else climbed around on school roofs as a young and stupid person, but I did. I would never have dropped from 10 feet like that, but that is another story.
  1. The roof was hot. Not fry an egg hot, but at 85 degree heat, pretty hot. Sweat all over hot.
  2. The edges of the roof are not conducive to holding onto, contrary to what you see in the movies. There is usually metal flashing on the edges which are even more hot, plus loose pebbles
  3. Those pebbles are really rough on your knees and elbows. And hands if you are hanging off the sides. Like scrap your skin off rough.
  4. The descent was actually spectacular. Note when both feet are on the window, the knees are bent before heading to the ground. Ready for impact, no chance of locking a knee or hip when arriving at the ground. Most people would face the building and jump back (which I can attest is a bad thing). Excellent upper body strength and control. Good flexibility. No fear of self harm. This person is not the norm.
Also
  1. The clothing could actually have come from any second hand store. Just mentioning it.
Something is bothering me. I can't place it. Why take the rifle, then leave it? Looks like a 98, but not quite right. Mini-Mauser 98? Synthetic stock, not that common. And the scope doesn't match. Could it be broken? It got flung around a lot on the descent.

And unless the killer was wearing gloves while loading the weapon, likely DNA there, too.

Old news. They're clearly lost, judging by the photos they've released and that press conference hours later when they released new video.

More speculation on route, this time on the approach: directly south on 800 W from at least where it intersects with 800 S.

He then crosses 800 W on a diagonal when he is about at the halfway point (just as he is approaching the house with the surveillance camera over the three garage doors. He is limping like crazy.

I then am assuming that from the end of 800 W, he crossed Campus, and tgem either went up Campus past the LSS Institute and veered right across the grass toward the loading dock of the building he entered, or, he went straight across Campus and headed down Heat Plant Rd - probably also entering via that same WSW area of the building (between the west corner and the dock).

His return route would be a retrace, except that once he passed the end of the chain link fence along Campus, he took a right into the woods behind the UVU ROTC (this is before you get to 800 W) , and travelled through the back yards, exiting on a sloping short road between those back yards and 800 W (or via the woods just west of 725 W - but I think he came back out on 800 W a couple of houses down, and across the street from surveillance camera house)

In the TMZ video (this is my interpretation only) as he exited from behind the houses (the back yard areas) back onto 800 W, he was seen running down that short paved road or drive. This short paved road or drive may not have been built when the GE images were last taken.

This makes me think that if he was injured dropping off the building ledge, it maybe wasn't a serious injury, I'm now thinking all videos that show him limping are on the way to the shooting, and that the limping evident in those videos was caused by the discomfort and restriction of concealing a 30-06 in a pant leg (and possibly going up between your back and a backpack?

If he did approach by limping south down 800 W, where could he have come from before that? Maybe he had parked in one of the very large lots surrounding the Utah County Academy of Sciences Seminary Building and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also could have parked in any of the several very large UVU parking lots along both sides of 800 S (if unrestricted). Of course he also could have walked 5 more miles... so, idk. Hope they catch him soon

Where is this being reported? I haven't seen that.

Authorities found a screwdriver near recovered rifle, source says

From CNN's Evan Perez
Authorities recovered a screwdriver near the rifle investigators believe was used in yesterday’s fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

Investigators believe this to be an indication that the shooter may have used it to disassemble and reassemble the firearm before using it.

Removing the stock would help the shooter conceal the weapon in a bag or even in his clothing, they believe.
